Women students lead the way at IIM Indore in new academic year

Indore: Female students outnumbered their male counterparts in the highly regarded Post Graduate Programme (PGP) at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Indore in the new academic year 2025–26. This marks the first-ever female-majority cohort with 53.79 per cent in PGP. Additionally, the Post Graduate Programme in Human Resource Management (PGP-HRM) boasts 100 per cent female participation. Addressing students, Professor Himanshu Rai, director of IIM Indore, emphasised on the importance of personal growth alongside academic accomplishments. "Having a personal vision and being mindful is important. You are not here merely to earn a degree, but to discover yourselves and the difference you can make," he said during the induction ceremony. A total of 650 participants were welcomed for the academic year 2025–26 across various programmes, including the PGP, PGP-HRM, Integrated Programme in Management – Fourth Year (IPM-IV), and the Doctoral Programme in Management (DPM). Notably, 54.6 per cent of PGP participants and a striking 88.24 per cent of PGP-HRM participants hailed from non-engineering backgrounds. Breaking down the PGP demographics, Engineering/Technology leads with 126 participants, followed by management-related disciplines (65). Other significant contributions come from Commerce (54), Economics (42), and Computer Science (59). The chief guest, Lt Gen Harjeet Singh Sahi, Commandant of Army War College, Mhow, said, "True leadership is about taking ownership, understanding the people you lead, and having the courage to do what is right even in the face of adversity." He underscored that today's operational landscape requires not only technical skills but also clarity of purpose, emotional intelligence, and a strong commitment to ethical values. In the PGP-HRM batch, notable representations were made from Commerce (15), Management Studies (8), Economics (4), Botany (3), and Literature (3). At the event, 31 Certificates of Academic Excellence were awarded to the top 5 per cent of the combined PGP-I and IPM-IV batch, alongside two certificates for outstanding performance in the PGP-HRM programme.
