Textile industry coalition reviews POSH compliance
Dindigul: The Textile industry coalition (TIC) reviewed the progress in strengthening workplace safety and implementing the Prevention of Sexual Harassment (POSH) Act across Tamil Nadu's textile hubs.
TIC held its second steering committee meeting in Dindigul on Monday, which was chaired by social welfare and
women empowerment
minister P Geetha Jeevan.
According to a release, TIC, launched as a multi-stakeholder initiative by the Tamil Nadu govt and convened by UN Women, is supported by the European Union and H&M Group. Since its formation, TIC carried out safety audits, training sessions, and community outreach programmes in six districts—Coimbatore, Tirupur, Erode, Namakkal, Karur, and Dindigul—to improve POSH compliance and promote safer workplaces.
The meeting also endorsed the work plan for the upcoming quarter.
Sundar Senthilnathan, head of public affairs, H&M Group, stressed the importance of holistic interventions with govt support to bring sustainable improvements in the lives of women workers.
Laurent le Danois, team leader, cooperation section, EU delegation to India and Bhutan, reaffirmed the EU's commitment to gender equality and zero tolerance towards gender-based violence.
