Nurul Izzah and husband depart for haj pilgrimage [WATCH]
KUALA LUMPUR: Nurul Izzah Anwar and her husband, Yin Shao Loong, were given a send-off at the airport before departing for their haj pilgrimage recently. A TikTok fan page named @nurulizzah_fans shared a 30-second video showing the couple making their way to the departure gate at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA). The clip, uploaded three days ago included a heartfelt caption praying for a blessed pilgrimage. "O Allah, make their pilgrimage a blessed and accepted one, their Sa'i a deed that You accept, and their acts of worship righteous and pleasing to You," the caption says. Nurul Izzah, recently elected as the new deputy president of PKR after defeating Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli in the May 23 party elections, announced her intention to perform the pilgrimage during the PKR National Congress last month. Upon her return, she is expected to focus on strengthening internal party unity and with an eye on preparations for the 16th General Election (GE16) and the Sabah election.

Ramanan slams misuse of his name, urges public to trust only official statements
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR vice-president Datuk Seri R. Ramanan has condemned irresponsible quarters for spreading misinformation using his name in media statements. Ramanan, who is also the deputy entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister, said any official media statements would only be issued through his office or via his official social media platforms. In a statement, he also criticised the irresponsible parties who have become "desperate" for political gain, and urged the public to remain cautious. "As I suggested during my closing speech at the PKR National Congress last week, the phenomenon of spreading defamatory material is becoming more rampant, and party members must counter it with drastic measures," he said.

Anwar casts ballot in PKR central leadership polls

Photo by Bernama JOHOR BAHRU - Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) President and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today cast his vote in person in the party's central leadership election at the Berjaya Waterfront Hotel here. Anwar arrived at the polling centre, which also serves as the venue for the 2024/2025 PKR Youth (AMK) National Congress, at about 12.07 pm, accompanied by PKR advisory council chairman Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail. Also present were PKR secretary-general Dr Fuziah Salleh, information chief Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, and Election Committee (JPP) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. Dr Wan Azizah also cast her vote. After voting, Anwar spent some time mingling with PKR delegates and election staff. Today's voting is to elect the members of the Central Leadership Council (MPP), the Angkatan Muda Keadilan (AMK) Leadership Council, and the Wanita Keadilan Leadership Council which runs from 8 am to 5 pm. A total of 32,030 delegates are eligible to vote, comprising 22,936 online voters and 9,094 physical voters. In addition to the Berjaya Waterfront Hotel, physical voting is also held at the PKR Wanita's Congress at the Danga Bay Convention Centre. For Sabah and Sarawak, physical voting is also taking place at the International Technology and Commercial Centre (ITCC) in Penampang and the Penview Convention Centre in Kuching, respectively. This election sees a total of 251 candidates contesting - 104 for the Central Leadership Council, 85 for the AMK Council and 62 for the Wanita's Council. The Prime Minister is unopposed for the position of president, while the deputy president post features a one-on-one contest between Nurul Izzah Anwar and incumbent, Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli. For the vice-president posts, 12 candidates are in the running, including four incumbents - Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Chang Lih Kang, Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, and Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari. Meanwhile, Muhammad Kamil remains unchallenged for the position of AMK chief, while the PKR Wanita's chief post sees a straight fight between Education Minister and incumbent Fadhlina Sidek and Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail. Dr Zaliha earlier said the results of the party's new leadership election are expected to be known as early as tonight or by 2.30 pm tomorrow. Anwar is scheduled to officiate the 2024/2025 PKR National Congress at 9.25 pm tonight at the Persada International Convention Centre here, which will be attended by party leadership and delegates. - BERNAMA

Still no word on Rafizi's ministerial exit
KUALA LUMPUR: The position of Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli as Minister of Economy remains uncertain following his defeat in the recent PKR deputy presidency race. Communications Minister and government spokesman Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said he had yet to receive any updates, adding that the public would need to remain patient. "As Asean is still ongoing — today marks the second day of the Asean-GCC-China Summit — I currently have no further information. We will have to wait," he said during Google's Project Sigma: Engaging Malaysian Gen Z for News event today. Rafizi had previously pledged to step down from his cabinet role should he fail to retain his position as PKR deputy president. He was defeated by Nurul Izzah Anwar, the former Permatang Pauh member of parliament, who secured 9,803 votes compared to Rafizi's 3,866. Meanwhile, Fahmi said the party had yet to determine the date for the Central Leadership Committee meeting, which will include discussions to verify new appointments and fill vacancies arising from the outcomes of the 2025 PKR National Congress.

Anwar defends decision to extend Azam's contract

Anwar said that although the move drew criticism from various quarters, including the opposition, he remains steadfast in his belief that Azam has demonstrated an unprecedented level of assertiveness in tackling major corruption cases. 'I believe, looking at the MACC's record over the decades, this is the first time the agency has dared to raid big-time tycoons. 'Yes, that's a fact. I could replace him tomorrow and discuss it with my Cabinet colleagues, but I'm not convinced that the next person would dare to take on billion-ringgit tycoons,' he said. Anwar, who is also Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) president, said this during his policy speech at the PKR National Congress 2024/2025 held at Persada Johor International Convention Centre here tonight.
