Paige Spiranac Has Hilarious Request of New PGA Tour CEO
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Paige Spiranac is up there with Tiger Woods as one of the biggest names in golf, regardless of whether she plays professionally. She has more followers than Tiger and is known as golf's top social media influencer. With the PGA Tour making a replacement at the top, as Jay Monahan seems to be out, the news is that Brian Rolapp is the new man in charge. The fans were quick to give their first demand, and of course, it included Spiranac. "If the new PGA CEO doesn't immediately hire Paige Spiranac as an on-course reporter, then all is lost," X, formerly Twitter, user McGolfin TV wrote. Spiranac responded to that tweet. "I mean the people have spoken," she wrote. I mean the people have spoken — Paige Spiranac (@PaigeSpiranac) June 18, 2025 The former professional golfer isn't new to the role. During the PLAYERS Championship week, she was the on-course reporter for the Creators Classic at TPC Sawgrass. Spiranac did a fantastic job providing insight while keeping people entertained with her quick remarks. Her skills shone through as she handled the role with ease. Photo byfor Fanatics The 32-year-old has already begun her next career phase as she recently signed on with the Grass League, a new par-3 golf tour. It blends pros, influencers and fans to compete. Spiranac will give interviews, work with the marketing side, and help with the new tour's brand, per a story from Forbes. If anyone can do it, Spiranac can because she grew her brand through hard work and dedication to learning how social media works. However, the new CEO could shake up the golf landscape if he hired Spiranac as a reporter. Granted, NBC Sports, Golf Channel, or CBS Sports would likely need to hire her. Unless Rolapp wants to grow the PGA Tour LIVE area and use Spiranac with that team, it would have to be one of the broadcasting companies. Annika Sorenstam already gave her the nod of approval, so why not get her on the broadcast? She also went to bat for Rory McIlroy after his drama at the U.S. Open. Her ability to talk about what's going on in golf will be a significant asset to the television side of the PGA Tour. The idea is a good one, though, because she would attract a younger crowd and bring a fresh face to the sport with her influence. Watch moment Scots golf ace Robert MacIntyre wins new fans with ‘pure class' gesture live on TV after US Open heartbreak
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) ROBERT MACINTYRE came agonisingly close to winning his first major in dramatic fashion at the US Open, only to be denied in the final stages. But you wouldn't know it from the look on his face - because it was all class. MacIntyre, 28, posted a round of 68 (-2) on the final day for the clubhouse lead as he kept his cool when others lost theirs during a wild day at the Pennsylvania venue. The course had been showing its teeth all week with the likes of Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler and Bryson DeChambeau all struggling to get to grips with it. A rain delay on Sunday made matters even more difficult but MacIntyre played some of the best golf of his life to put himself into contention for an improbable triumph - despite starting the round SEVEN shots off the lead. He clawed his way back and by the time he'd finished his round it was down to a duel between him and Spaun, as the challenges of Adam Scott, Sam Burns and Viktor Hovland wilted. With both players tied as Spaun reached the 17th, the recent PLAYERS Championship runner-up made a terrific birdie to go one shot ahead. That left MacIntyre anxiously waiting in the clubhouse in the hopes of a play-off. For that to happen Spaun would have had to bogey the 18th. Spaun nailed a drive into the fairway but his approach shot left him with a scary two-putt from 65 feet. A three-putt would have led to a play-off but Spaun HOLED the monster 65-footer to clinch the trophy in incredible style by two shots - and MacIntyre was one of the first to show his appreciation. Tearful JJ Spaun sinks monster putt on final hole as 120/1 underdog pips Robert MacIntyre to US Open crown at Oakmont Rather than sulk or be bitter about losing out on his first major, MacIntyre was caught live on TV in the clubhouse giving the American a huge round of applause. The Oban lefty looked speechless with a stunned look on his face before he said "Wow", and sincerely shrugged his shoulders as if to say 'What can you do?'. His classy act of sportsmanship was noticed by plenty of golf fans both at home and abroad, as Spaun burst onto tears on the green. The commentator on the US broadcast of the event said: "Pretty good sportsmanship there, Robert MacIntyre. 'Wow'." Fans on social media also praised the Scot for his reaction to the putt, taking into account the herculean effort he had put in to give himself a shot at glory. Not only would victory have broken MacIntyre's major duck, he would have been the first from his homeland to win the US Open in almost 100 years - and at the same course. Scots-born Tommy Armour won the 1927 US Open at Oakmont and indeed two years earlier (exactly 100 years ago) Willie Macfarlane won his only major title in the same tournament, beating the legendary Bobby Jones in a play-off. While it wasn't to be for MacIntyre, viewers loved his display of sportsmanship. One fan said: "A true sportsman and a gentleman. Robert MacIntyre epitomises golf at the highest level." Another said: "Pure class after a tough defeat." "Some boy. This shows class," came another comment. And a fourth said: "Mac put on a great show also, he held it together beautifully." One viewer went even further, saying: "I'd give the win to Robert MacIntyre for the absolute class he showed in the clubhouse. That display was the most impressive thing I've seen today." MacIntyre will rise from 20th to 12th in the world rankings and also jumps up to fourth in the European points list for the Ryder Cup. Not only that, he appears to have won himself a few more fans with his display over the weekend at Oakmont. US Open golf SUSPENDED due to dangerous conditions as players take cover and Oakmont course starts flooding "Robert MacIntyre, what a classy individual," said one viewer. "Robert MacIntyre is just a good guy man," said another. "I'm now a huge fan of MacIntyres," came a third comment. While this observer said: "He became a new favourite, class." A fifth said: "Class. Totally changed my opinion of the bloke." Other responses came in commending MacIntyre for showing Scotland in a good light. "What a man. Proud he is a Scot," said one Scottish fan. While this American fan said: "Them Scot's are damn good guys. Can't wait til my next boys trip abroad." Another supporter reckons MacIntyre is now primed for a good run at Royal Portrush in a few weeks' time when The Open comes to town. "Class act from the Champion Golf of the Year in a few weeks," came one response. MacIntyre himself followed up his classy gesture with words of congratulations for Spaun. The reigning Scottish Open champion said: "He won the golf tournament. "I mean, he's dreamed of it. I've dreamed of it. Everyone's dreamed of that moment. "For him to pour in the winning putt, there's nothing I can do. "Fair play.' 7 MacIntyre applauded Spaun for his efforts in victory 7 He could only say 'wow' as Spaun holed the 65-footer against the odds Credit: US OPEN 7 He was clearly stunned by the outcome but showed his class Credit: US OPEN 7 The Scot accepted defeat magnanimously Credit: US OPEN Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

2025 U.S. Open: Complete Record-Matching $21.5M Prize Purse by Place
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. While speaking on the eve of the 125th U.S. Open, United States Golf Association (USGA) CEO Mike Whan officially revealed that the event's purse will be $21.5 million, with $4.3 million going to the winner. This is the same amount allocated for the 2024 edition, tying the record for the largest purse distributed at any major championship in history. "Our purse is $21.5 million. Winner's check is $4.3 [million]. We didn't raise our purse this year," Whan said. "When I started at the USGA just four years ago, our purse was $12.5 [million], so I feel comfortable that we've been a leader in moving fast and bigger." Aller/Getty Images As for the winner's paycheck, it ranks as the second-highest for an individual professional golf event, behind only the $4.5 million awarded to the winner of the PGA Tour's PLAYERS Championship. It's certainly come a long way since the $150 Horace Rawlins received for winning the event's foundational edition in 1895. The US Open winner's paycheck reached $1,000 for the first time in 1929, but the winner was the legendary Bobby Jones, who didn't collect the prize money because he played as an amateur. The $10,000 barrier was broken in 1959, when Billy Casper received $12,000 for his victory. Just 26 years later, the $100,000 barrier was surpassed, as Andy North received $103,000 when he won in 1985. It couldn't be anyone but Tiger Woods who was the first to receive $1 million for winning the US Open, which he did with his epic victory in 2000. Rory McIlroy a laughingstock after PGA Tour career worst
The post Rory McIlroy a laughingstock after PGA Tour career worst appeared first on ClutchPoints. Almost two months ago, Rory McIlroy completed his quest for a career grand slam, winning the Masters Tournament. That was already his third win of the 2025 season. McIlroy won both the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the PLAYERS Championship. It appeared his game had finally reached another level. Advertisement With six days until the U.S. Open tees off at Oakmont, that no longer seems the case. McIlroy flamed out at the PGA Championship and controversially opted not to speak to the media after each round. The Northern Irishman then skipped Jack Nicklaus' Memorial Tournament, which turned heads. This week, he was back on the course at the RBC Canadian Open, an event he has won twice. Not only did the familiarity with TPC Toronto not help get his game back on track, but he is having the worst tournament of his PGA Tour career. McIlroy carded a 1-over 71 on Thursday. That placed him below the projected cut line entering the second round but only by a couple of strokes. Then Friday happened. Advertisement With three holes to play, McIlroy sits at 9-over for the tournament. He is 150th in the field out of 153 golfers. The worst 36-hole finish of McIlroy's career was a tie for 142nd, per Underdog Golf. He will undoubtedly be heading home early. As his round played out, fans took to social media with some truly wild reactions. 'Rory McIlroy has (understandably) mentally checked out following his Masters win. Such a shame considering the form he was in pre-Augusta.,' one fan posted on X, formerly Twitter. Even Barstool Sports' Riggs could not contain himself. 'Rory F***ing McIlroy you are an emotional rollercoaster what is wrong with you I love you so much.' Advertisement Following four straight pars to begin his round, everything went off the rails on the par-4 5th. The five-time major champion carded a snowman eight for a quadruple bogey. From there, he bogeyed 8, 10, and 13 while double-bogeying the par-3 12th. He made his first birdie of the day on 15, prompting the most perfect troll reaction ever. Barring some double eagles coming in, this will mark the worst 36-hole finish of McIlroy's career, just in time for the U.S. Open.
