Casino CEO willing to host Torre vs. Baste charity boxing —Lacson

Senator Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson said Thursday that an executive of a resort casino hotel is willing to provide a venue for the supposed 'charity boxing match' between Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III and Davao City acting Mayor Sebastian Duterte. 'A credible source told me last night, the CEO of a popular resort casino hotel, a well-known philanthropist is willing to open their ballroom for the 'charity boxing match' between Nick Torre and Baste Duterte,' said Lacson on X (formerly Twitter). Lacson, a former PNP chief himself, also said that he is hoping that the bout will proceed. 'For the sake [of] the many poor flood victims, let's do it!' OCD: P4 billion in infra damaged by Crising, Habagat, LPA

'In terms of damages, meron pa tayong P4 billion worth of infrastructure damage as reported. Pero this is still subject to validation ng ating mga ahensya,' OCD officer-in-charge Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said in a virtual press briefing. Damage to infrastructure worth P4 billion was reported in the country due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Crising, the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, and a low-pressure area (LPA), according to the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) on Wednesday. (In terms of damages, we still have P4 billion worth of infrastructure damage as reported. But this is still subject to validation by our agencies.) 'For agriculture naman, ang losses already amounts to P217.5 million pesos dahil apektado po ang ating corn, rice, and other high value crops na pananim dito sa ating bagyong ito,' he added. (For agriculture, the losses already amount to 217.5 million pesos because our corn, rice, and other high-value crops are affected by this tropical cyclone.) Alejandro said nearly 1.9 million people, or 533,213 families, were affected by the bad weather. Of the affected population, around 25,000 families were staying in evacuation centers while 21,000 families were taking shelter in other places. On July 16, a low-pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) developed into Tropical Depression Crising. On July 19, Crising intensified as a severe tropical storm and exited the PAR. Despite Crising's exit, Habagat continued to bring rains in some parts of the country. Twelve people were reported dead due to the impact of Crising and Habagat, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday. Most of the reported deaths were recorded in Calabarzon, with five. This was followed by Negros Island Region with three. One fatality was reported each in Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM). The victims died due to drowning and falling trees. Nine people were reported missing and seven others were reported injured. The information from the PNP is up for validation by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC). –NB, GMA Integrated News

PNP Chief Accepts Baste Duterte's Fistfight Dare as Charity Boxing Match

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III has accepted the challenge of Davao City Acting Mayor Baste Duterte to a fistfight—but with a twist: Torre proposed it be held as a charity boxing match instead. Torre said the fight could be a way to raise funds for victims of Typhoon Crising and recent flooding, suggesting a Sunday bout at the Araneta Coliseum. 'Maybe this is a very good time for a charity boxing match. At least Mayor Baste and I can help those affected by the storm,' Torre told reporters. 'I'm sure a lot of people will want to watch.' The challenge stemmed from a vlog posted by Duterte, in which he called Torre out and accused him of being brave only because of his position. Duterte claimed he could beat the police chief in a fight, but labeled him a coward. The online spat follows recent tension between the Duterte family and the Marcos administration, amid ongoing political drama surrounding Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment and her brother Baste's appointment as acting mayor of Davao City.

Torre vs. Baste: PNP chief accepts acting Davao mayor's fistfight challenge

Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Nicolas Torre III on Wednesday accepted the challenge of Davao City Acting Mayor Baste Duterte for a fistfight. Torre said this could be in the form of a "charity boxing match." 'Ang una kong naisip, uy tamang-tama. Maraming kababayan natin ngayon ang nangangailangan ng tulong na naapektuhan ng bagyo at baha. Maybe, this is a very good time para sa isang charity boxing match,' Torre told reporters. (My first thought was, oh, that's good timing. Many of our countrymen are in need of help right now after being affected by the cyclone and floods. Maybe this is a very good time for a charity boxing match.) 'We can do it on Sunday sa Araneta. Actually, puwede. Seriously, it's okay. Sigurado maraming manonood nyan,' he added. (We can do it on Sunday at Araneta. Actually, we can. Seriously, it's okay. That's a good charity and at least Mayor Baste and I can help our countrymen who were affected by the storm in some way. I'm sure there will be many people watching.) In a vlog uploaded on Youtube on Sunday, Duterte mentioned Torre and challenged him for a fistfight. 'Kasi matapang ka lang naman you have the position. But then you're a coward,' Duterte said. (You're brave because you have the position. But if we fight, I know I can handle you. But then you're a coward.) —VAL, GMA Integrated News

DILG's Remulla says sorry for humorous class, work suspension announcements

Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla on Wednesday apologized for the humorous posts of his department for the announcement of class and work suspensions due to the bad weather. Remulla told GMA Integrated News' Unang Balita in an interview that he was not downplaying the struggle of the public and that he was just trying to lighten their mood. 'Siguro hindi nila ako naiintindihan. Pabiro talaga ako. Hindi ko naman minamaliit ang pinaghihirapan nila. Ang ginagawa ko lang, ang pagpapaalala ay ginawa kong mas magaan para hindi negative vibes lagi ang naririnig,' Remula said. (Maybe they just don't understand me. I am really humorous. I am not downplaying what they are going through. All I am doing is reminding them. I made it lighter so that they don't always hear negative vibes.) 'Kung 'di naman nila naiintindihan ay humihingi ako ng pasensiya. Pero ganoon talaga pagkatao ko. Ano na lang, intindihin na lang ito na wala naman akong masamang intensiyon,' he added. (If they don't understand, I apologize. But that is just how I am. Just understand that I don't have any bad intentions.) In a post on DILG's Facebook account on Tuesday, Remulla said, "Mga abangers, may inaabangan ba kayo? Mamaya na kain muna ko." (Guys, are you waiting for something? Later, I have to eat first.) Then, the DILG again published a post with Remulla saying, 'Mga abangers, sarap ng bogchi ko. Sa kabusugan ay nakaidlip nang sandali. Oh eto na inaabangan niyo!' (Guys, I had a delicious meal. I fell asleep for a while after being full. Oh, this is what you've been waiting for!) Remulla was referring to the announcement of class and work suspensions due to the impact of the bad weather caused by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat). The post received mostly angry reactions. Twelve people were reported dead due to the impact of Tropical Cyclone Crising and the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Wednesday. Five of the fatalities were recorded in Calabarzon. Negros Island Region had three fatalities. One fatality each meanwhile was reported in Metro Manila, Mimaropa, Northern Mindanao, and Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARRM). The victims died due to drowning and falling trees. Nine people were also reported missing and seven others were reported injured.
