Manipur: Security forces arrest 12 militants of banned outfits
Guwahati: The security forces in Manipur have arrested 12 militants of various banned extremists' outfits and recovered some arms and ammunition in the last 24 hours in different districts. A police officer said that the arrested militants belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested from Imphal West, Imphal East and Kakching districts. The security forces arrested a PREPAK cadre (one of the 12 militants) from Imphal west district and he was identified as Chingakham Sanjoy Singh Eremba. From his possession, one wallet containing an Aadhaar card and Pan Card was seized. The arrested militant had undergone 45 days of basic military training in Myanmar and was working for the proscribed underground organisation in Myanmar before crossing back into Manipur. The security forces arrested another active PREPAK cadre from Wabagai area under Kakching district. The arrested cadre, identified as Leishanthem Athoiba alias Leishang had undergone military training in mobile phone was recovered from his possession, police said. The police officer said that the security personnel arrested three active cadres of the KCP outfit as they were involved in extortion and threatening innocent people, shop owners, bank employees in Manipur valley areas. Manipur Police arrested one individual identified as Warepam Shanta Singh for illegal possession of arms and ammunition from Kanglatombi Bazar in Imphal West district. One 9mm pistol along with one magazine, six rounds of 9mm ammunition, and one mobile phone with a SIM card were recovered from Shanta Singh. The security forces also recovered some arms and ammunition from Imphal East District. Security forces continue to conduct search operations and area domination in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts. Meanwhile a delegation comprising representatives from various hill district Bar Associations called on Governor of Manipur , Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan, Imphal and apprised him of the challenges faced while conducting judicial proceedings in the hill districts. They highlighted the absence of adequate judicial infrastructure in many of the hill areas and requested the Governor's intervention in addressing the issue. Governor gave a patient hearing and assured the delegation that the matter would be looked into, and necessary steps would be taken. Commissioner (Law) was also present during the meeting.

A police officer said that the arrested militants belonging to the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP), Socialist Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (SOREPA), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) were arrested from Imphal West, Imphal East and Kakching districts. The security forces arrested a PREPAK cadre (one of the 12 militants) from Imphal west district and he was identified as Chingakham Sanjoy Singh Eremba (42). The police have also cautioned people against spreading rumours and fake videos. They have appealed to people not to believe in rumours and to be vigilant about fake videos. The veracity of any videos, audio clips, etc., can be confirmed by the Central Control Room, a police statement said. The police said that there are possibilities of many fake posts being circulated on social media. 'It is hereby cautioned that uploading and circulation of such fake posts on social media would attract legal action with consequences. Further, an appeal is made to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately,' the statement said.

Drugs valued at Rs 2.84 cr seized in Manipur, two held
Imphal/Silchar: Security forces in Manipur arrested two drug peddlers, including a woman in Churachandpur district and recovered drugs worth over Rs 2.84 crore and cash amount of Rs 37.5 lakh from their possession, officials said on Saturday. A police official said that the security forces arrested a drug smuggler, identified as Doukholet Hanghal (52), from his residence at Mongkot Khopi village under Churachandpur district on Friday night. The security personnel, after a thorough search of his residence, recovered 870 grams of brown sugar valued at Rs 1.74 crore, 20 soap cases containing heroin weighing 260 grams valued at Rs 52 lakh. Rs 29.5 lakh, acquired by the individual from drug deals, two radio sets and a mobile phone were also recovered from the possessions of the detainee. In another incident, the security personnel arrested a woman drug peddler identified as Chigenvung (46) from her residence at Tangnuam village in the same Churachandpur district on Friday night. In all 25 soap cases containing brown sugar weighing 289 grams valued at around Rs 60 lakh, a cash amount of Rs 8 lakh and a mobile phone were recovered from her residence. The police official said that the drugs were smuggled from Myanmar, as the hilly Churachandpur district shares an unfenced border with the neighbouring country. Security forces also arrested a cadre identified as Jameson Ngangbam (21) of the banned outfit People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) from Manipur's Kamjong district, and a pistol along with some ammunition were recovered from his possession. Meanwhile, the Border Security Force (BSF) of Mizoram and Cachar frontier seized 95 bags (1710 kg) of smuggled garlic from Bangladesh in the border area of Mizoram's Mamit district. The value of the contraband is Rs 2.73 lakh. Adjoining Myanmar and Bangladesh share 1,643 km and 1,880 km, mostly unfenced border with northeastern states, respectively and serve as key transit points for various drugs, particularly heroin and methamphetamine tablets, entering India.

Manipur: 13 militants arrested in last 24 hours in a statewide crackdown
Imphal: At least 13 militants have been arrested in a statewide crackdown in a joint operation by security forces and police in Manipur in the last 24 hours, police said on Sunday. Those arrested are 'active' members of banned insurgent groups and were allegedly involved in extortion activities, an officer said. 'We have been receiving complaints of extortion and illegal activities. To crack down on those armed miscreants or militants, we have been taking necessary measures,' a senior police officer told HT. The police said two active members of the Kangleipak Communist Party – People's War Group [KCP (PWG)] faction — Ningthoujam Kiran Meitei alias Boinao (29) of Lairenkabi Mayai Leikai and Sorokhaibam Inaocha Singh (45) of Salam Mamang Leikai, both residents of Imphal West district — were arrested on Saturday. The duo were allegedly extorting money from government departments, officials, and the public. 'A large cache of items was recovered from their possession, including 75 rounds of assorted ammunition of various calibers such as 5.56 mm, AK, and .303, along with two Baofeng two-way radio sets with chargers, a green bulletproof vest with two iron plates suspected to be improvised armour, a camouflage helmet, mobile handsets, an Aadhaar card, a green backpack, and a four-wheeler vehicle,' an officer said. Abujam Manoj Singh (21), an active member of the KCP (Apunba) faction, was also apprehended on May 10 from Salam Maning Leikai under the jurisdiction of Patsoi police station in Imphal West district. Security forces recovered 46 live rounds of 5.56 mm caliber ammunition and a mobile phone from his possession. In a separate operation, Sogolsem Thoithoi alias Samson (44), an active cadre of the Revolutionary People's Front/People's Liberation Army (RPF/PLA), was arrested from Mayang Langjing Kwaisphai under Lamsang police station. He was reportedly involved in extorting money from government schools and the public in the Imphal area, the officer said. Two active cadres of the People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak – Progressive [PREPAK (Pro)] faction were arrested on Saturday. 'Ingudam Ingocha Singh alias Borobi (48) of Seijang Makha Leikai, Imphal East district, accused of transporting logistics, arms, ammunition, and food supplies for the outfit, was held from Chingarel Tejpur under Lamlai police station. Sarangthem Premananda Singh alias Nanao (35) of Kakching Khunou was arrested from Wangoo Chairel Sabam in Kakching district. He is suspected of being involved in extortion activities,' an officer said. An active member of the G5 organisation — one of the five banned underground outfits affiliated with PREPAK --- Salam Kifson Luwang alias Loya (26) was arrested from Wahengbam Leikai Lairembi Maning under Imphal police station. He is suspected of extorting money from the public in the valley region, the officer said. Security forces arrested Hidangmayum Harishankar Sharma alias Ajay (32), Hidangmayum Naoba Sharma alias Nongthang (36), Oinam Jeet Singh alias Sanamani (42), and Laishram Inao Singh alias Loya or Sanjenaha (42), and seized two pistols with magazines, 27 rounds of live ammunition, a three-wheeler and a two-wheeler, along with four mobile phones, wallets, and identity cards during the operation. Two more arrests were made on Friday. Ningombam Jiten Singh alias Bikramjit (45), an active cadre of KCP (PWG) accused of extortion, was arrested from Thoubal Ningombam Utha Leirak. Khangembam Ningthem Meitei alias Tomcha (51), a PREPAK (Pro) member, was arrested from his Ningel Awang Leikai residence under Nongpok Sekmai police station in Thoubal district. He is suspected of extortion, illegal road tax collection, and illegal recruitment in his area, the officer said. The security forces are carrying out extensive intelligence-based combing operations and cordon-and-search drives across the state. The officer added that the state's security forces are committed to combating militant activity and protecting the public from illegal extortion networks.

Some arms and ammunition, wireless sets, cash amounts, Aadhaar cards, incriminating documents, two two-wheelers, and 15 mobile handsets were recovered from the militants' official said that a lone PREPAK militant identified as Takhellambam Meipaksana Singh alias Korou alias Biken was also involved in many crimes, including the locking of a gas agency office in Imphal East district last week, and he was working under a lady self-styled PREPAK commander, Sana, who has been arrested by Manipur Police recently and is now under police police official said that as part of the ongoing search and area domination operations, the security forces recovered some sophisticated arms and ammunition from Pherzawl and Kakching districts.
