No need for socialism in India, secularism not core of our culture: Shivraj Singh Chouhan
Veteran Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Rajendra Chaudhary slammed the BJP and the RSS for suggesting that the words 'socialist' and 'secular' in the Constitution's Preamble could be done away with. "These statements merely prove that the RSS and BJP don't believe in democracy and are making attempts to weaken the Constitution," Chaudhary told PTI. UP Congress chief Ajay Rai told PTI, "Such statements in fact validate what we have been saying for long that the RSS and BJP don't have any faith in the Constitution. This country belongs to all. The Congress will protect the Constitution at all costs." Chouhan said he was only 16 years old when the Emergency was promulgated and he was also arrested and taken to jail under Defence of India Rules. "Even today, I get goosebumps remembering those dark days. During the Emergency, if there was a frenzy to demolish houses at Turkman Gate, the public was crushed by bulldozers. If anyone protested, they were riddled with bullets. It was not bullets fired on the public, it was the murder of the Constitution," Chouhan recalled. The Union minister said there was neither any appeal, nor "vakeel" (lawyer), nor "daleel" (argument) and alleged that it was murder of the Constitution.

India Star Forgets Item At Hotel Ahead Of Departure To Birmingham, Labelled Next Rohit Sharma
India all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy left an item at the team's hotel in Leeds, ahead of the departure for the second Test, starting July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. India trail 0-1 in the five-match series as England won the series opener at Headingley by five wickets earlier this week. However, Reddy did not feature in the match as the team management opted to go with veteran all-rounder Shardul Thakur instead. With less than a week remaining for the start of the 2nd Test, the Indian team departed for Birmingham earlier this week. However, before the team's departure, an interesting incident took place as Reddy forgot an item at the team hotel and was spotted leaving the bus to collect it. He returned to the bus after a while and was also spotted having a chat with the security head of the Indian team. Reddy's forgetfulness reminded a fan of Rohit Sharma, who also has an habit of forgetting things at team hotels. Nitish Kumar Reddy forgets things like Rohit does in the hotel room — Shikha (@Shikha_003) June 27, 2025 India head coach Gautam Gambhir defended captain Shubman Gill 's decision to under bowl Shardul, who could be dropped for the second game in Birmingham. In his first Test since December 2023, Shardul was under-utilised in the pace department and was rather underwhelming with the bat, totalling five off 20 balls across two innings. Questions were raised about his presence in the playing eleven ahead of a specialist bowler when he rolled his arm over for six overs in the first innings before bowling 10 in the second. Like he often does, Shardul did pick a couple of wickets out of nowhere to raise hopes of an Indian comeback on day five but the bite in his bowling was missing. He alongside the likes of Prasidh Krishna offered too many loose balls, lacking consistency to test the opposition batters. With India losing the game having controlled for a major part of five days, there is no need to ring the alarm bells but a few changes are certain in the playing eleven for the Edgbaston Test.. Experts cried out for Kuldeep Yadav 's inclusion in the series opener and now he is most likely to replace Shardul with the surface expected to aid the spinners in Birmingham.. "Kuldeep needs to be there. There is no point playing with four pacers. Either of Shardul or Prasidh can make way for him," former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar told PTI.

Bengaluru to get new stadium with 60,000 seating capacity, says DK Shivakumar. More details
In a significant development following the tragic stampede at Bengaluru's iconic Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier this month, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar on Friday announced plans for a brand new stadium in the city. The upcoming venue, which will seat 60,000 people, is aimed at easing congestion and improving crowd management during major public events. Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar. 'We have finalised land for a new stadium in Bengaluru. The proposed capacity is 60,000 seats. More information will be shared shortly,' he said, speaking to reporters. This move comes in the wake of a deadly stampede during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebration on June 4 near Chinnaswamy Stadium, which claimed the lives of 11 people and left several others injured. The incident sparked outrage across the state and prompted strong criticism of the authorities for inadequate crowd control. Chinnaswamy Stadium, located in the heart of the city, has long been a bottleneck during cricket matches and large-scale public events. With a capacity of around 35,000, the stadium was overwhelmed on June 4 when more than three lakh fans reportedly gathered in and around the venue, far exceeding official crowd estimates and police preparedness. The resulting chaos led to a deadly crush and a political storm over administrative lapses. Also Read - Kannadiga man shares 'concern' as he predicts locals may disappear from Bengaluru in 10 years In the aftermath, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah acknowledged the need for decongesting the city centre. He had hinted at plans to relocate the cricket stadium to a more accessible and less crowded location. 'The government will examine options for shifting the stadium. Such a tragedy should never happen again. It has deeply pained me,' he said after the incident. To prevent such disasters in the future, the state government has also undertaken disciplinary action. Several senior police officials, including the Bengaluru Police Commissioner, were suspended, a move that has drawn both public and political scrutiny. As part of a broader ₹ 1 lakh crore investment in Bengaluru's infrastructure, the new stadium will be built alongside projects such as flyovers and tunnel roads. 'Kempegowda envisioned a world-class Bengaluru. With his vision as our inspiration, we are committed to making this city better,' Shivakumar added.
