Minor boy strangled to death in Maharashtra school; 2 juveniles detained
Jalna (Maharashtra), Jul 23 (PTI) An 8-year-old boy has been allegedly strangled to death by two fellow minor students after a quarrel at a residential school in Maharashtra's Jalna district, police said on Wednesday. Two minors have been detained in connection with the incident, they said. The victim was a student of a government-aided English school for tribal children in Bhokardan tehsil, District Superintendent of Police Ajaykumar Bansal said. He was found dead on Tuesday morning, according to police. 'An altercation broke out between the victim and two other minors, aged 8 and 14. The two allegedly strangled the victim with a rope while he was asleep. We have detained the juveniles involved and an investigation is underway," Bansal said. The boys had a fight over a trivial issue on Monday evening. Later at night, the victim went to sleep in the school dormitory after dinner, another official said. Seizing the opportunity, the accused minors allegedly strangled him with a rope, he said. On Tuesday morning, when the victim failed to wake up, the school staff rushed him to a hospital where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Doctors at the hospital observed strangulation marks on his neck, the official said. A probe was on into the incident, the police said. Three held with drugs of more than Rs 22 lakh in Thane
Thane, Jul 21 (PTI) Police have arrested three persons after seizing drugs valued at more than Rs 22 lakh following two raids in Maharashtra's Thane district, officials said on Monday. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided a room near the Valdhuni river under Khadakpada police station area in Kalyan on July 17 and seized 1.12 kilograms of ganja (cannabis) valued at Rs 25,000, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone-III, Kalyan) Atul Zende said in a release. A man, identified as Ravi Shivaji Gavli (30), resident of Anupam Nagar, who was found in possession of the narcotic substance was immediately taken into custody, the official said. On July 18, the police carried out another raid at a location behind the APMC Market Road in Kalyan where two individuals were allegedly attempting to sell banned narcotic substances. 'During the raid, our team seized 110 grams of MD (mephedrone), a synthetic drug, from the possession of the accused. The market value of the seized drug is estimated at Rs 22 lakh," Zende said. The police arrested the two accused, identified as Mohammad Kaif Mansur Shaikh (24), resident of Kalyan, and Fardin Asif Sheikh (24), from Kongaon in Bhiwandi, the official said. 'We are now conducting further investigations to trace the supply chain – from where the drugs were procured and to whom they were being sold," the official said. Woman ends life in Navi Mumbai, live-in partner booked for suicide abetment

Thane, Jul 14 (PTI) A 44-year-old woman allegedly committed suicide in Navi Mumbai, following which police have registered a case of abetment against her live-in partner, an official said on Monday. He gained the woman's trust and allegedly took Rs 10 lakh from her, an official from Rabale police station said. When the woman later sought to end their relationship, the man threatened to share her objectionable pictures and videos with her relatives, the official said quoting a complaint filed by one of the daughters of the victim on July 11. The man allegedly assaulted and tortured the victim on multiple occasions, which led her to take the extreme step, the complaint alleged. The accused also sent abusive messages to the victim's daughters and made threatening calls to them, as per the complaint. Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case against the man under various Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections, including 108 (abetment of suicide), 77 (voyeurism), 316(2) (criminal breach of trust), 74 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation), the official said. Severed animal head found in dustbin in Thane locality; cops launch probe
Some people spotted the severed animal head in a dustbin in the locality on Sunday night and raised an alarm, Wagle Estate police station's senior inspector Shivaji Gaware said. The police later reached the Hajuri locality in Wagle Estate area on Sunday night and defused the tension, they said, adding the samples of the carcass were sent for an examination. Thane, Jun 9 (PTI) Tension prevailed at a locality in Maharashtra's Thane city after the severed head of an animal, suspected to be of a buffalo, was found in a dustbin, police said on Monday. This quickly drew a crowd and led to demands for immediate police action, he said. 'A situation of public unrest developed where several people gathered and demanded the police register a criminal case and nab the culprit,' Gaware stated. 'The situation escalated when some (activists from) Hindu organisations raised the issue, launched a protest and persisted with their demand for an investigation,' he added. The police immediately took steps to pacify the situation, the official said. The Wagle Estate police seized the carcass and its samples have been sent to a lab for analysis. A veterinary doctor was also called to the spot for a preliminary verification, he said. 'The police are awaiting report of the analysis…we suspect the carcass to be of a buffalo,' Gaware said. 'We have registered an FIR against an unidentified person under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs), 302 (uttering words, etc, with deliberate intent to wound religious feelings of any person. and 325 (mischief by killing or maiming animal) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and provisions of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act-1976,' he said.
