India should scale petrochemical capacity to counter China: Reliance
India must scale up its petrochemical production to meet domestic and international demand and curb China's increasing dominance in the sector, a senior executive at Reliance Industries said on Friday. Petrochemical margins have declined globally due to China's rapid capacity expansion, which has led to an oversupply. In China, petrochemicals account for 40 per cent to 50 per cent of the output of some refiners, more than twice the level typically seen in India. Rising petrochemical demand in India At present, India's petrochemical demand represents only a small share of the global average. However, as the economy continues to grow, consumption is expected to increase. India is currently experiencing the fastest economic growth among major economies, while China's growth has slowed, with its gasoline and gas oil demand reportedly having peaked. In contrast, Indian demand for these fuels is still rising, though at a slower pace, as the country transitions toward cleaner energy sources. Vikram Sampat, senior vice-president of strategy and business development for the polyester chain at Reliance Industries, warned at an industry conference that China was taking over "the entire petrochemical industry" and emphasised the need for India to respond. "If we don't do it, China will continue to grow," he said. Sampat noted that Reliance currently has a petrochemical intensity -- the share of petrochemicals in its total refining capacity -- of 20 per cent. He projected that, should petrol demand reach its peak, refiners could redirect 30 per cent to 50 per cent of gasoline yields into petrochemical production. If diesel demand peaks, the share could increase to between 50 per cent and 70 per cent. India's shift towards petrochemicals Analysts believe that Indian refiners will increasingly prioritise petrochemical production to maintain margins and drive growth as the demand for transport fuels derived from fossil fuels nears its peak in the coming years. China's central planning agency stated in its annual report that domestic refiners should cut back on fuel output and prioritise increased petrochemical production, according to a Bloomberg report. China is currently the world's biggest exporter of key products like polyethylene terephthalate (PET) resins, purified terephthalate acid (PTA), polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polyester fibre. Beijing is mandated to limit total refining capacity to under one billion tonnes annually by this year, down from the current level of approximately 960 million tonnes.

Adani to rival Reliance with PVC plant by 2028
Billionaire Gautam Adani 's conglomerate will build a 1 million tonne a year PVC plant at Mundra in Gujarat, marking its foray into the petrochemicals sector where Reliance Industries Ltd is the main player, sources said. PVC, or Polyvinyl Chloride, is a synthetic plastic polymer that is widely used to make an array of products - from pipes and fittings to window and door frames, cable insulation, vinyl flooring and wall coverings, credit cards and toys. India's annual PVC demand is about 4 million tonnes, while domestic production capacity stands around 1.59 million tonnes, half of which is with Reliance. PVC demand is projected to grow at a CAGR of 8-10 per cent, driven by sectors such as agriculture as land under irrigation increases, infrastructure aided by water supply and sanitation, housing and pharmaceutical and packaging segments. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Crossout: New Apocalyptic MMO Crossout Play Now Undo Adani Group's flagship Adani Enterprises Ltd is setting up a petrochemical cluster in Mundra. Within this cluster, it is constructing a PVC manufacturing plant with a capacity of 1 million tonnes per annum, two sources aware of the matter said. The facility is slated for commissioning by fiscal 2028 (April 2027 to March 2028 financial year). The PVC Project is expected to include capabilities for manufacturing PVC, chlor-alkali, calcium carbide and acetylene units. Live Events Adani group is looking to implement the Acetylene and Carbide-based PVC production process, with environment clearance and consent to establish the project, having already been received, sources said. Given the current higher demand and lower supply of PVC in India, the Adani project will help reduce the supply gap and import dependency. The project will pit the group against Reliance, which is currently India's largest PVC producer, with an estimated capacity of around 7,50,000 tonnes per annum. Reliance has PVC plants at Hazira, Dahej and Vadodara in Gujarat. It is looking to double its capacity by 2027. Adani's group and Mukesh Ambani 's Reliance had for long moved in non-overlapping orbits, but first clean energy and now petrochemicals would be sectors where they could be competing against each other. Sources said Adani's Mundra plant could in the future be expanded to 2 million tonnes per annum capacity on demand growth. Initially halted in March 2023 due to financial uncertainties and allegations from US short-seller Hindenburg Research, work on the project was resumed last year. The Adani Group has since refocused its resources, raising over USD 5 billion in equity and additional debt, and fully repaid share-backed financing. Financed by an SBI-led consortium, the project will utilise acetylene and carbide-based PVC production processes. Sources said the Adani group is confident of sourcing feedstock given that its portfolio companies have expertise in trading in domestic and international markets. Also, the group's synergy benefits and availability of large land parcels in Mundra, together with access to port facilities will optimise the logistics cost for sourcing of raw material/inventory handling cost as well as for transportation of the final products to the prospective domestic and overseas markets and ensure smooth implementation of the project. They said the Adani portfolio has a proven track record in successfully commissioning and managing large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects, encompassing areas like ports, power, and logistics. It has an abundance of science and engineering graduates, along with a well-trained workforce proficient in various skills.

Vinyl vs. Aluminum Soffits: What's Best for Peterborough Homes?
When it comes to protecting and ventilating your home, soffits play a far more critical role than many homeowners realize. For those living in Peterborough—a region known for its distinct seasons, fluctuating temperatures, and varying moisture levels—selecting the right soffit material can impact everything from energy efficiency to long-term maintenance. Two of the most popular materials on the market are vinyl and aluminum. Both offer unique advantages, but which one is best suited for your home in Peterborough? In this blog post, we'll compare vinyl vs. aluminum soffits across various factors including durability, cost, maintenance, appearance, and climate compatibility. By the end, you'll have a clearer understanding of which material will work best for your needs—and why it matters when it comes to Soffits Peterborough homeowners rely on. Soffits are the underside boards or panels that run between the edge of your roof and the exterior wall. They're typically ventilated to allow air to flow into your attic, helping to regulate temperature and prevent moisture buildup. Soffits also shield your rafters and eaves from weather and pests, making them an essential part of any home's exterior system. In a region like Peterborough, with cold winters, hot summers, and high humidity during shoulder seasons, properly functioning soffits are crucial to: Preventing condensation and mold Reducing ice dam formation Improving attic ventilation Enhancing energy efficiency Prolonging the lifespan of your roof and fascia Now that we understand their importance, let's explore how vinyl and aluminum soffits stack up in real-world Peterborough conditions. Vinyl soffits are made from PVC (polyvinyl chloride), which makes them resistant to rot, rust, and insect damage. They hold up well in moist environments and don't corrode like metal products. However, in extreme cold—which Peterborough often experiences—vinyl can become brittle and prone to cracking, especially if it's older or poorly installed. Aluminum soffits are extremely durable and resistant to weathering. They won't rust, warp, or rot and can withstand Peterborough's icy winters and hot summers with ease. Aluminum also fares better in areas exposed to direct sunlight, as it doesn't fade or become brittle over time. Winner: Aluminum While both materials perform well in moisture, aluminum takes the edge in terms of overall durability—especially under harsh weather conditions frequently seen in Peterborough. One of the main attractions of vinyl soffits is their low-maintenance nature. They don't require painting, and cleaning is as easy as spraying them down with a hose or wiping with soap and water. However, vinyl can discolor over time, especially if constantly exposed to UV rays, and may need to be replaced sooner than aluminum in high-impact areas. Aluminum soffits are also low-maintenance and typically come pre-finished with protective coatings that prevent fading and chalking. They're resistant to mildew and pests, and they rarely need more than an occasional rinse. That said, dents and scratches can occur more easily with aluminum, especially if hit by falling branches or ladders. Winner: Tie Both options require minimal maintenance. Vinyl is slightly more prone to fading; aluminum is more susceptible to denting. The right choice depends on your specific environment and care habits. Vinyl soffits are available in a wide range of colors and textures, including wood-look finishes that offer a more traditional or rustic appearance. For homeowners wanting to match soffits with their siding or trim, vinyl provides plenty of aesthetic flexibility. Aluminum soffits also come in a broad range of colors, though not as many as vinyl. However, the finishes on aluminum tend to be more durable and colorfast over time. Aluminum also offers a sleek, modern look that fits well with contemporary or minimalist home designs. Winner: Vinyl Vinyl soffits offer greater design and color variety, giving Peterborough homeowners more freedom to customize their home's appearance. Vinyl is generally the more budget-friendly option. Both material and installation costs tend to be lower, making vinyl an attractive choice for homeowners working within a tighter budget. The lightweight nature of vinyl also means faster and easier installation. Aluminum is more expensive to purchase and install. It requires precise cutting and may need special fasteners. However, its longevity can make it a better long-term investment, especially for those who plan to stay in their homes for many years. Winner: Vinyl (Short-Term), Aluminum (Long-Term) If upfront affordability is your priority, vinyl soffits make sense. But if you're focused on long-term durability and can afford a higher initial cost, aluminum may offer better value. Vinyl is a plastic-based product, and its production involves the use of petroleum and chemicals. While some manufacturers offer recyclable options, PVC is generally less eco-friendly than metal alternatives. Aluminum is one of the most recyclable building materials available. Many aluminum soffits are made from recycled content, and they can be fully recycled again at the end of their life. Winner: Aluminum For environmentally conscious homeowners in Peterborough, aluminum soffits offer a greener solution. Vinyl is non-organic, so it's resistant to termites and wood-boring insects. However, it can melt or warp in high temperatures and is more vulnerable in the event of a fire. Aluminum is not only pest-proof but also fire-resistant. It won't melt or ignite under high heat, providing an extra layer of protection, particularly in areas with outdoor grills, fire pits, or nearby brush. Winner: Aluminum For maximum safety and protection, aluminum soffits are the stronger contender. When choosing between vinyl and aluminum soffits in Peterborough, consider the following localized factors: Climate : Peterborough's cold winters and humid summers require a soffit material that can handle moisture, temperature fluctuations, and ice buildup. : Peterborough's cold winters and humid summers require a soffit material that can handle moisture, temperature fluctuations, and ice buildup. However, if you want maximum performance, safety, and environmental sustainability, aluminum soffits are worth the investment. Choosing the right soffit material is more than a design decision—it's a matter of protecting your home from the elements and ensuring long-term performance.
