Deion Sanders rehabilitating in weighted vest, promises to return to job soon

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has been rehabilitating in a weighted vest with the help of his son Deion Jr. as he tries to come back from an unspecified health issue and return to his job in Boulder. Sanders, 57, provided two recent updates on Instagram, including one on Saturday that showed him wearing a weighted vest next to Deion Jr. 'Every little step I take My son @deionsandersjr has been there so we've decided to keep on stepping!' Sanders wrote in the post Saturday. '#CoachPrime coming to a stadium sold out soon.' In another post from June 26, he used his situation to promote an energy drink sponsor in the same vest. '1 step closer Everyday,' he wrote. 'I'm Walking it out! Our Team is working their butts off therefore I've got to match that (fire) they have!' Sanders Sr. has been away from his coaching job since April as he dealt with his health issue at his estate in Texas. He did not attend Colorado's annual youth and high school camps in June even though operating such camps is listed in his Colorado contract as one of his official duties. In May, he was unable to attend the wedding of former Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter in Tennessee. 'He know why we couldn't be there,' Sanders Jr. said on his YouTube channel after Hunter's wedding. Sanders Sr. also canceled a speaking engagement in Florida scheduled for June 8. The timing of his return to campus remains unclear, but he is scheduled to appear at a Big 12 Conference media event in Frisco, Texas on July 9. Wearing weighted vests helps build strength and endurance. They also help stimulate the growth of new bone cells, according to Harvard Medical School. Deion Jr. said in a video posted on YouTube June 21 that his father was 'back active, moving around' and has made progress. Sanders Sr. previously said on social media on June 11 that 'everything is OKAY' and that he would provide a full update upon his return to Colorado. In late May, Sanders Sr. appeared on a podcast with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel and said that 'what I'm dealing with right now is at a whole 'nother level' but said he's coming back after losing about 14 pounds. Sanders previously battled issues with blood clots in his legs and had to miss a Pac-12 Conference media event in Las Vegas because of it in July 2023. You need something to help you while away the days and hours in the spring and summer. This is one way to do so. In this new series, countdown to kickoff, we will be counting down the days by highlighting a notable Trojan who wore each number. Today, we take it back to the early 1980s and look at former USC All-American offensive lineman Roy Foster. Position: Offensive line Years played at USC: 1978-1981 Career highlights: Foster earned first-team All-American honors at offensive guard for the Trojans during both the 1980 and 1981 seasons. In 1980, he was the first ever winner of the Morris Trophy, given to the top offensive lineman in the Pac-12 Conference. The following year, Foster repeated as the winner, becoming one of just three offensive linemen to win the award twice. After USC: The Miami Dolphins selected Foster with the 24th overall pick in the 1982 NFL Draft. He would go on to play 12 seasons in the league—the first nine with Miami and the last three with the San Francisco 49ers. Foster was named to the Pro Bowl following both the 1984 and 1985 seasons.

Colorado coach Deion Sanders making 'progress' with health issue

Colorado football coach Deion Sanders has made 'progress' as he battles back from an unspecified health issue and is moving around again outdoors, his son Deion Jr. said in a YouTube video posted Saturday. The video shows Sanders fishing at his estate in Texas with former Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter. 'It's a beautiful thing,' Deion Sanders Jr. says in the video. 'Coach Prime back active, moving around. God is great. Not back active moving around, but it's progress.' Sanders Sr. has been away from his job in Colorado since April and did not attend Colorado's annual youth and high school camps in June, even though operating such camps is listed in his employment contract as one of his official duties. The timing of his return to campus remains unclear. This is usually a dead time of year for head coaches in college football, but he is due to make an appearance at a Big 12 Conference media event in Frisco, Texas, on July 9. The video showed him on a boat in a lake encouraging Hunter as the Jacksonville Jaguars rookie reels in a fish. 'Bring him out,' Sanders tells Hunter. 'C'mon T. Hunter. There you go. T. Hunter!' Sanders, 57, previously said on social media June 11 that 'everything is OKAY' and that he would provide a full update upon his return to Colorado. "I'm excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program,' Sanders wrote on social media on June 11. Sanders also mentioned the issue on a podcast in late May with former NFL cornerback Asante Samuel. 'I hope you're feeling better,' Samuel said to Sanders. Samuel asked him if he ever tried fasting. Sanders responded by saying 'what I'm dealing with right now is at (a) whole nother level' but said he's coming back after losing about 14 pounds. Sanders previously battled issues with blood clots in his legs for years and had to miss a Pac-12 Conference media event in Las Vegas because of it in July 2023. David Greenwood, former UCLA star and NBA champion, dies at 68 after cancer battle

LOS ANGELES (AP) — David Greenwood, who was one of coach John Wooden's last recruits at UCLA and went on to win an NBA championship with Detroit during a 12-year pro career, has died. He was 68. Greenwood died Sunday in Riverside, California, after battling cancer, the school said Wednesday, citing family members. After a standout career at Verbum Dei High in Los Angeles, Greenwood began his college career at UCLA just months after Wooden's surprise retirement announcement in March 1975. He averaged 14.8 points and 8.7 rebounds in 118 games as a four-year starter in Westwood. The Bruins had a record of 102-17 and won the league title in each of his four seasons. He was a two-time league player of the year who helped the Bruins to the 1976 Final Four. Greenwood earned first-team All-America honors as a junior and senior, becoming UCLA's first player to do so since Bill Walton in 1972-74. He still ranks fourth on the school's career rebounding list. He was the second overall pick in the 1979 NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls lost the coin toss to the Los Angeles Lakers, who drafted future Hall of Famer Magic Johnson at No. 1, having acquired the pick in a trade with New Orleans. Before Michael Jordan arrived in Chicago in 1984, Greenwood, Reggie Theus and Orlando Woolridge were the Bulls' core players. After six seasons, the Bulls traded Greenwood in 1985 to San Antonio in exchange for future Hall of Famer George Gervin. Greenwood also played for San Antonio, Denver and Detroit, coming off the bench to help the Pistons beat Portland to win the 1990 NBA championship. He was a member of the Pac-12 Hall of Honor and the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame. Last year, Greenwood attended UCLA's final Pac-12 Conference game at Pauley Pavilion. Greenwood later coached at his high school alma mater, leading Verbum Dei to state titles in 1998 and 1999. He is survived by son Jemil and daughter Tiffany as well as his brother Al, sister Laverne and former wife Joyce.
