The three-kilometre walk, which began at 6am from MBKS Boulevard, concluded at the Kuching Waterfront with the hoisting of the state flag at Dataran Ibu Pertiwi. In his welcoming remarks, Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng said the 722 Walk was more than a physical activity – it was a powerful statement of solidarity. 'This is more than just a walk. It is a statement of unity, a reflection of our shared love for this land we call home,' he said before flagging off the walk. Wee also thanked the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU) and Padawan Municipal Council (MPP), saying their collaboration showed that setting aside differences could lead to greater accomplishments for the people. 'Today, we have made that vision a reality. And while next year DBKU will take the lead as host, we must remember that it is not about positions or organisers. 'The 722 Walk belongs to every Sarawakian. It belongs to all of us,' he said. Emphasising the historical importance of the date, he said 722 is a reminder of Sarawak's journey towards self-determination and its rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). 'Let us not allow 722 to be reduced to a mere ritual or celebration. 'It must remain a call to action for all Sarawakians to stay united, to cherish our diversity, and to continue working together for a stronger and more prosperous Sarawak,' he said. Also present were Kuching North Mayor Dato Hilmy Othman and Padawan Municipal Council Chairman Tan Kai. 722 Walk Kuching MBKS sarawak day

Viral photo shows the rock believed to have been used by the perpetrator behind the incidents. KUCHING (July 13): A reward of RM5,000 has been offered in an effort to bring an end to the string of rock-throwing incidents plaguing motorists plying Jalan Batu Kawa here. Padawan Municipal Council councillor Aaron Tay said he and several friends are offering the reward to anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of the perpetrator. 'This reward is purely a personal contribution from myself and a few friends who share the same concern for the safety of our people. 'We sincerely believe that this initiative can expedite the search for and arrest of the individual responsible,' he told The Borneo Post when contacted today. Tay said he was under the impression that the case had been solved following the arrest of a senior citizen last week, but was shocked and deeply concerned to learn that another rock-throwing incident had occurred in the same area on Saturday night, reportedly injuring a passenger. 'It is now deeply concerning that the rock-throwing incidents have resumed, and this time the situation has worsened,' he said. Tay, who has visited the sites of the attacks on multiple occasions, urged the public to cooperate with the police in an effort bring a swift end to the menace. MPP records rise in assessment rate collection, reaffirms commitment to devt
Tan (centre) and others pose for a photo call after the meeting. KUCHING (June 26): The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has recorded an increase in assessment rate collection, with RM16 million collected as of June 2025, marking a 58.06 per cent collection rate, up from 57.47 per cent during the same period last year. Chairman Tan Kai, after chairing the MPP full council meeting yesterday, said the increase demonstrates the council's ongoing commitment to enhance revenue collection and community cooperation. 'Arrears collection has also risen by RM189,000 compared to the same period in 2024. 'MPP has implemented several proactive measures, including mobile counters, door-to-door programmes, SMS and email reminders, follow-up calls, and reminder notices,' he said, stressing that assessment rate revenue is crucial for sustaining services and development in Padawan. Payments can be made at all MPP counters, Service Sarawak locations, the Kuching North City Commission (DBKU), the Kuching South City Hall (MBKS), Post Malaysia Bhd, H&L Supermarkets, and online via the Service Sarawak website, S Pay Global app, and PayBills Malaysia website. Ratepayers who have not received their bills are encouraged to update the contact details at MPP or Service Sarawak counters to receive digital copies. During the meeting, Tan also provided updates on infrastructure projects funded through the Malaysian Road Records Information System (Marris). A total of 121 projects under the Special Marris Road allocation, amounting to RM8.2 million, have been approved, with 47.1 per cent completed. Under the Special Marris Drainage allocation, 28 projects worth RM7.8 million were approved, with 32.14 per cent completed. Separately, 133 out of 411 routine maintenance projects across the council's area have been completed. 'The council reaffirms its commitment to transparency, efficiency, and timely project delivery to ensure maximum benefit for the community,' said Tan. He also warned private developers against carrying out earthworks without prior engineering approval, noting that companies must apply for road permits and clearly indicate routes for heavy vehicles, particularly when transporting construction materials. 'Repeated damage to roads caused by heavy vehicles places a burden on public resources due to frequent repairs,' he said. 'Non-compliance with Section 8A of the Sarawak Building Ordinance 1996 and planning regulations may lead to enforcement, including site closure. A non-compliant site was closed just last month as part of such enforcement efforts.' Moreover, MPP is also moving to regularise unauthorised advertisements within its jurisdiction. Tan stressed that all advertisements must follow council guidelines and by-laws to ensure public safety and preserve the townscape. 'Violators may face a compound of RM1,000 under By-law 28 of the Local Authorities (Advertisements) By-laws 2012,' he said, adding that MPP is committed to working closely with business owners to support compliance and guide them through proper licensing procedures. On another matter, MPP will hold a free dog licensing, anti-rabies vaccination, and microchipping programme this Saturday at the Kota Sentosa basketball court parking lot. The first 50 dogs vaccinated, licensed, and registered with the council will receive a RM150 subsidy. assessment rate collection lead MPP Tan Kai

Kota Sentosa dental unit gets new boiler, returns to full functionality
Yap (second right) is seen when inspecting the newly-installed boiler. KUCHING (June 25): The Kota Sentosa Health Clinic Dental Unit received a new wall-mounted water boiler yesterday. The dental team at the clinic had informed Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap that the previous water boiler had malfunctioned, causing significant inconvenience and delays, particularly in the making of dentures for patients. 'I was informed that patients requiring dentures were being affected due to the faulty equipment. 'As their elected representative, it is my duty to assist where and when I can to ensure essential healthcare services continue smoothly,' said Yap, who is Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) Kota Sentosa chairman. The absence of a functioning boiler had forced staff to resort to boiling water using kettles – an inefficient and time-consuming workaround that affected the speed and hygiene of the denture fabrication process. The new boiler ensures that the dental unit can now return to full functionality, with a reliable and continuous supply of hot water critical for cleaning, wax processing, and other denture-making procedures. Yap (third left) hands over the letter for the Seventh Mile Community Association Hall car park upgrade. Separately today, Yap visited the site of the Seventh Mile Community Association Hall for the official handover of the Letter of Award to the contractor for resurfacing works at the hall's car park. The RM30,000 project, funded under Yap's Rural Transformation Project (RTP) allocation, will be implemented by Padawan Municipal Council (MPP). 'The resurfaced parking area will greatly improve accessibility and convenience for family members and visitors who gather to pay their final respects to departed loved ones,' said Yap. 'Many residents rely on the hall for such solemn occasions, particularly when their own homes are not suitable for religious or customary rites.'
