PETALING JAYA : The Johor royal press office has issued a public warning about a video on Facebook which fraudulently claims that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim is endorsing an investment scheme that promises high returns. The office said the video uses artificial intelligence (AI)-generated visuals and audio to replicate the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's face and voice. 'The public is advised to remain vigilant and not be easily influenced by such videos, which are often used by scammers for fraudulent purposes on Facebook and other social media platforms,' the office said in a statement. It also reminded the public that impersonating a royal figure or misusing identities is a criminal offence, and that stern action will be taken against those found to be involved in such activities. On Sunday, the Pahang palace identified several TikTok accounts circulating AI-generated videos featuring an image of the Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, purportedly offering assistance to the public. The palace said the videos were a misuse of the Pahang ruler's image for fraudulent and deceptive purposes. The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission is investigating the case under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which prohibits the improper use of network facilities or services. Offenders may face a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment of up to one year, or both, upon conviction.

Pahang police chief Datuk Seri Yahaya Othman said the Pahang Palace had lodged a police report at the Kuantan district police headquarters on Sunday. "Police have received a report on the viral TikTok video featuring an image resembling the Sultan of Pahang. Investigations revealed the TikTok accounts featuring the videos were fake. "The case has been handed to the MCMC for further investigations," he told reporters after attending the department's monthly assembly at the Pekan district police headquarters today. Yahaya said MCMC were conducting investigations under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which prohibits the improper use of network facilities or services. Offenders may face a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment for up to one year, or both, upon conviction. These fabricated videos, which falsely depict the Sultan of Pahang speaking, have been circulated by multiple accounts allegedly offering public assistance. The Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page, in a posting, wrote that the AI-generated clips have been widely shared through accounts using names such as datuk_abdul_majid, datokfahrolaziz07, and datuk_abdul_majid7. "The public is advised not to share these videos, click on any links, or trust the information presented, and to immediately report any suspicious content to the authorities.
