Capsey wants to be 'best batter in the world'
England all-rounder Alice Capsey has set herself the goal of becoming the "best batter in the world".The 20-year-old has been a regular fixture in England's white-ball sides since making her debut in July 2022, playing 26 one day-internationals and 45 T20s, registering four half-centuries in the shorter she is one of a number of players under scrutiny in an under-performing England batting line-up, having posted single-figure scores eight times in 13 T20s over the past year."Over the last year to now, I haven't performed how I would have liked," said Capsey."I want to be the best batter in the world. Any player who's playing international cricket will want to strive to be the best."Capsey was dropped from the T20 squad to tour South Africa in November after England suffered a group-stage exit from October's T20 World was recalled because of an injury to Paige Scholfield but did not play in the three T20s, though did feature in the third T20 in the Women's Ashes against Australia, before also touring Australia with the England A side in March and April."Getting dropped from that T20 squad in South Africa was the best thing for me," she said."A lot of work went on during the winter."Playing in that England A series was probably one of the best things for me, just to still be playing competitive games but not to be in the complete spotlight of the international game." Scorchers land international all-rounders in WBBL draft
Perth Scorchers have ticked all-rounders off their shopping list at the Women's Big Bash League draft, landing English international Paige Scholfield and South African gun Chloe Tryon. The Scorchers will bring 29-year-old Scholfield down under for the first time, selecting the batting all-rounder with pick 12 in the draft on Thursday afternoon. Scholfield has played five times for England's national team. Perth did make a play for English legend Heather Knight and inaugural Scorcher Deandre Dottin, but the Thunder and Renegades used their retention picks to wave them off. South African international and Big Bash veteran Chloe Tryon was then drafted with pick 28. Former Scorchers player Amy Jones was selected by Melbourne Stars and Perth did not retain her. Durham also picked up a dramatic one-run victory at Hampshire Hawks on DLS after poor weather ended the contest with the hosts on 33-2 six overs into their chase of 119 at Arundel. Surrey maintain 100% winning start With Lancashire and Surrey's start time already delayed by more than two hours, the match was reduced to 11 overs at Emirates Old Trafford. Harris stars as Surrey down Hawks
Grace Harris posted a blistering half-century and took three vital wickets on debut as Surrey inflicted a first defeat on Hampshire to go top of the Women's T20 Blast Australian rattled 63 from 35 balls as the hosts amassed an imposing 213-4 from their 20 overs, with the evergreen Danni Wyatt-Hodge cracking 62 and Paige Scholfield smashing an unbeaten 49 from just 18 the Hawks just ahead of the ask with five overs remaining, Harris then ousted opener Ella McCaughan after an imperious knock of 81 and sent skipper Georgia Adams on her way two balls later to end the visitors' 31-year-old off-spinner - who has more than 50 T20 appearances for Australia under her belt - finished with figures of 3-18 as Surrey won by 32 runs in their first game at the Oval under the county's name.
