Mohammed Siraj Asked About India-Pakistan Controversy In WCL. Pacer's Reply Goes Viral

Mohammed Siraj was dumbfounded after he was asked to share his views on the cancellation of the World Championship of Legends (WCL) fixture between India and Pakistan. Holders India Champions were scheduled to play Pakistan Champions at Edgbaston on Sunday. However, some members of the India Champions squad refused to play the match, eventually leading to its cancellation. The denial of Indian players to feature against Pakistan stems from the heinous terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam on April 22. Following the attack, the relationship between India and Pakistan slumped and hit a new low. On Monday, Siraj's pre-match press conference ahead of the fourth Test match against England went off-topic as a reporter asked him about the cancellation of the highly-anticipated WCL fixture. However, Siraj was visibly agitated by the same. "I don't know," Siraj replied. The reporter then put Siraj in an uncomfortable position by asking him whether India would play Pakistan in ICC events. Siraj re-iterated saying, 'I don't know what to say.' During the press conference, Siraj also recalled his time when he was batting at the crease during the third match of the series in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. An unfortunate dismissal of Mohammed Siraj at the hands of Shoaib Bashir, with the ball rolling back into the stumps after landing on the pitch, marked the end of India's stubborn resistance at Lord's, with Ravindra Jadeja left stranded following a heartbreaking 22-run loss. India lost the match despite dominating England for large parts of the game, with Jasprit Bumrah being one of the standout performers. He took seven wickets, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings. Speaking at the pre-match press conference on his dismissal in the Lord's Test, Siraj told the media, "It obviously hurts when you get out despite middling the ball. The way our (Ravindra Jadeja's and my) partnership was going, I felt I wouldn't get out. I was that confident. But unfortunately, it didn't happen that way, and I was extremely disappointed. Had we won the game from there, it would have been a different result altogether."

WCL 2025: Pakistan Champions refuse to share points with Yuvraj Singh's side, says 'India backed out'

World Championship of Legends on Monday informed the England and Wales Cricket Board that they were unable to conduct the match between India and Pakistan and that the Indian team was not at fault, according to an ANI report. While these players did not officially confirm their withdrawal, former India batter Shikhar Dhawan posted a statement on social media sharing an email he had sent to the organisers, informing them of his decision not to participate in the clash against Pakistan. Ahead of the clash on Sunday, WCL released a statement confirming that the IND-PAK fixture had been scrapped and apologised to the Indian public and legends. The ANI report, citing WCL sources, noted that the Pakistan Champions are not willing to share points with their arch-rivals given that the match was called off due to Indian players' unwillingness to participate. 'WCL have conveyed to the England and Wales Cricket Board that they, as organisers, were not able to conduct this match. The India Champions team are not at fault. The Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them,' a WCL source was quoted by the agency as saying. Meanwhile, Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan recently stated that his team deserves the two points for the clash. 'All the remaining matches are taking place. The tournament is going on as per schedule, and there are no changes. As for the semifinals and final, we're currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams, and we will avoid matches between the two teams,' he told the media. 'If we reach the final, then the decisions regarding that will be made then. And as for this match, the two points will be awarded to us, and we deserve those points as per the rules,' Khan added.

'India Backed Out': Pakistan Champions Refuse To Share Points After WCL Match Called Off

After a dastardly terror attack in Pahalgam earlier this year that left 26 dead, India conducted a military operation targeting terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK). Thanks to the prevailing 'geopolitical situation and prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan", Dhawan, in a statement, said he won't be participating in the match. Eventually, the match, slated to be held on Sunday (July 20) was called off. WCL says that the Indian Champions team wasn't at fault for the match not going ahead. 'WCL have conveyed to England and Wales Cricket Board that they, as organisers, were not able to conduct this match. The India Champions team are not at fault. Pakistan Champions team are not willing to share points because they are saying that it is India who backed out, not them," ANI quoted a source as saying. The second edition of WCL got underway last week with Pakistan beating England by five runs. India, led by Yuvraj Singh, were to open their campaign against Pakistan. They will take the field for the first time this edition against South Africa tonight. Dhawan's Statement On Not Playing Against Pakistan Former India opener Dhawan said he had already communicated his decision with the WCL organisers in May this year. 'This is to formally reiterate that Mr Shikhar Dhawan will not be participating in any matches against the Pakistan team in the upcoming WCL League. This discussion was communicated earlier during our discussion on call and WhatsApp dated 11th May 2025," Dhawan shared a screenshot of his statement. 'In view of our current geopolitical situation and prevailing tensions between India and Pakistan, Mr Dhawan and his team have taken this position after due consideration. We respectfully request the league's understanding and cooperation on this matter," it added. What Happens If India And Pakistan Reach WCL Knockouts? In the scenario of both India and Pakistan reaching WCL semifinals, an official claims that a clash between the two teams will be avoided. 'As for the semifinals and final, we're currently saying that if we make it to the semifinals, there will be four teams, and we will avoid matches between the two teams," Pakistan Champions owner Kamil Khan told GeoNews. However, there's no clarity on what happens if they reach the title clash as was the case last season when India won the competition. Kamil also claimed Pakistan Champions should be awarded two points for the abandoned fixture with India. 'And as for this match, the two points will be awarded to us, and we deserve those points as per the rules," he said.
