President Abbas: The Suffering Of Palestinians In Gaza Is A Crime That Cannot Be Tolerated

RAMALLAH, July 24 (Bernama-WAFA) -- Palestine's President Mahmoud Abbas affirmed Thursday that the suffering of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, who are enduring siege, starvation, and deprivation of the most basic necessities of life, constitutes a crime that cannot be tolerated, Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported. In a televised address to the people of Gaza, broadcast on Thursday afternoon via Palestine TV, Abbas said that the Palestinian people are facing the greatest humanitarian catastrophe of our time, with international efforts failing to deter the Israeli occupation. He questioned, "How can the world abandon its humanity?" Abbas added that the starvation of civilians and the killings taking place in front of aid centres in Gaza "represent a stain of shame on the forehead of the international community if it does not act immediately to stop this genocide." bootstrap slideshow He stressed that the continuation of this situation amounts to a war crime, for which the Israeli occupation bears full responsibility. He called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, the urgent entry of food and medical supplies, and the release of Palestinian tax revenues withheld by the Israeli government. The President urged the US President to intervene and allow UN organisations to deliver food and medical aid, calling on the international community to find immediate ways to bring hundreds of thousands of tons of humanitarian assistance currently surrounding the Gaza Strip into the area. He reaffirmed his rejection of all forms of displacement, calling for the full withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces and for the State of Palestine to be enabled to assume full responsibility, assist the people of Gaza in returning to their homes, maintain security, enforce the rule of law, and begin reconstruction with Arab and international support. Abbas warned that attempts to impose Israeli sovereignty over settlement areas in the West Bank represent a dangerous escalation and a serious undermining of the Palestinian people's right to an independent and sovereign state. He urged the international community to reject these violations and to recognise the State of Palestine.

UNRWA Commissioner-General: Inaction In Pressuring Israel To Allow Aid Into Gaza Is "Complicity"

NEW YORK, July 21 (Bernama-WAFA) -- UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini confirmed on Sunday that inaction in pressuring Israel to allow aid into Gaza is "complicity" in starving the Palestinians in the Strip, stating, 'Inaction is complicity and makes us lose our humanity.' According to Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA), in a post on X, Lazzarini quoted a message often received from UNRWA staff in Gaza that says, 'I've been searching for something to feed my children but there is nothing.' He questioned, 'How can one respond to such messages of despair? Shames me and doubles the sense of helplessness.' He stressed that all this is man-made, with total impunity enjoyed by Israel.

UNRWA commissioner-general: Inaction in pressuring Israel to allow aid into Gaza is complicity

NEW YORK — UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini confirmed on Sunday that inaction in pressuring Israel to allow aid into Gaza is 'complicity' in starving the Palestinians in the Strip, stating, 'Inaction is complicity and makes us lose our humanity.' According to Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA), in a post on X, Lazzarini quoted a message often received from UNRWA staff in Gaza that says, 'I've been searching for something to feed my children but there is nothing.' He questioned, 'How can one respond to such messages of despair? Shames me and doubles the sense of helplessness.' He stressed that all this is man-made, with total impunity enjoyed by Israel. Lazzarini added that food supplies are available just a few kilometres away, noting, 'UNRWA alone has enough stock available outside of Gaza for the entire population for the next 3 months. We have not been allowed to bring any aid in since 2 March.' He emphasised the urgent need for political will, stating, 'Only political will and leadership can reverse full-fledged starvation.' Meanwhile, the number of deaths due to starvation and malnutrition in the Gaza Strip has risen to 18 cases within 24 hours. The total deaths from starvation have so far reached 86 people, including 76 children, most of them in the northern part of the Strip, where around 17,000 children are suffering from acute malnutrition. — BERNAMA-WAFA

Palestinian Foreign Ministry strongly denounces mass killings at aid centres in Gaza

RAMALLAH: The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Saturday strongly denounced what it described as 'mass killings' carried out by Israeli forces at humanitarian aid distribution centres across the Gaza Strip - the latest of which killed and wounded dozens in northern Rafah. Palestine News and Info Agency (WAFA) reported that the ministry called the attack a 'heinous crime' and part of a broader pattern of deliberate killing targeting over two million civilians in Gaza through bombardment, starvation, dehydration, and lack of medical care - all aimed, it said, at forcibly displacing the population. The ministry said it continues to engage diplomatically with states and international bodies to put an end to these crimes, stressing that the failure of the international community to act constitutes complicity. It urged a moral and legal awakening to enforce an immediate halt to what it described as genocide, forced displacement, and annexation. - BERNAMA-WAFA
