Palestinian Journalists Syndicate: More than 100 crimes, attacks against journalists during June
Ramallah - Saba: The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has confirmed that the Israeli occupation army committed more than 100 crimes, attacks and direct violations against journalists in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and within the 1948 territories during the month of June, as part of a systematic escalation targeting press freedom. According to the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa), a documentary report issued by the Syndicate's Press Freedoms Committee on Wednesday indicated that seven journalists were martyred while covering the field, while 16 others were seriously injured by bullets or rocket shrapnel. The attacks also targeted journalists' families, with five relatives martyred as a result of direct shelling. The report also documented the arrest of three journalists by the Israeli occupation army, while four others were brought before military courts. Regarding the media infrastructure, six press institutions were subjected to demolition or forced closure, ten journalists' homes were destroyed, and enemy forces confiscated filming and broadcasting equipment in four documented incidents. The report also documented 22 cases of detention or denial of coverage, eight attacks involving direct gunfire at journalists, seven attacks using sound bombs and toxic tear gas, three cases of physical assault, and three cases of threats and public incitement against journalists. The Syndicate also reported one case of travel ban and two cases of settler attacks on media crews. The report also documented a series of violations perpetrated by the enemy, through security forces and settler members, against Arab and Western media crews covering the fall of Iranian missiles on some areas within the 1948 territories. The report indicated that these figures reflect the wide scope and seriousness of the violations, amid international silence and the ongoing restrictions on journalistic work in the Palestinian territories. This coincides with the continued displacement of hundreds of journalists in search of safety, some of whom have been forced to flee their homes for the fifth or sixth time, far from their homes, a large portion of which has been destroyed. The difficulty of reaching work and communicating with the outside world continued due to the disruption of telecommunications and internet networks, as a result of the enemy army's targeting of broadcasting towers and coverage with shelling and destruction. The report also noted a relative increase in internal attacks against fellow journalists by official or family bodies. These violations are considered alarming and dangerous, given the genocidal aggression practiced by the Israeli enemy against our people in the Gaza Strip in particular, and against the Palestinian people in general. Israeli strike on Gaza hospital kills three journalists
LONDON: Three journalists were killed and four others injured in an Israeli strike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital's courtyard in central Gaza, drawing condemnations from media rights groups. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said the attack struck a media tent and identified the victims as Ismail Badah, a cameraman for Palestine Today TV channel, which is affiliated with the Islamic Jihad militant group; Soliman Hajaj, a Palestine Today editor; and Samir A-Refai of the Shams News network. The strike injured 30 others, including four journalists. Among them were Imad Daloul, a correspondent for Palestine Today, and Ahmed Qalja, a cameraman for Qatar-based Al-Araby TV, both are reported to be in critical condition. The syndicate accused Israel of 'a full-fledged war crime' that 'reflects a deliberate and systematic policy aimed at silencing the Palestinian narrative.' It said that targeting journalists 'within the grounds of a hospital constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.' The Israeli military said in a statement that the strike targeted 'an Islamic Jihad terrorist who was operating in a command-and-control center' in the hospital's yard, without providing details or evidence. In a statement on Thursday, the Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the attack, calling for international action to stop Israel from targeting journalists 'based on unsubstantiated terrorism claims.' CPJ regional director Sara Qudah said: 'These are not isolated incidents, but systematic attacks by Israel on the media. This disturbing and deliberate pattern must end. 'The killing of journalists in a hospital courtyard on the holy day of Yawm Al-Arafah — preceding Eid Al-Adha — underscores the relentless dangers facing the media in Gaza.'
