West Bank witnesses 40% surge in 'Israeli' settlements under Netanyahu's rule

A recent report from 'Israel's' Channel 12 reveals an unprecedented escalation in 'Israeli' settlement construction across the West Bank since the formation of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's government in late 2022. The channel indicates a substantial 40 percent increase in the number of settlements, which has grown from 128 to 178, coinciding with a dramatic rise in the demolition of Palestinian residences. This disclosure comes on the heels of a letter signed by 14 Likud Party ministers, including Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, calling on Netanyahu to immediately annex the occupied territory. While 'Israeli' authorities have often shown minimal concern regarding settler violence against Palestinians, recent assaults targeting 'Israeli' soldiers and police officers have drawn considerable attention from across the 'Israeli' political spectrum. Just last week, a violent settler attack on June 28 in Kafr Malik, a town in the central West Bank, resulted in the deaths of three Palestinians and left seven others injured. According to Channel 12, the concerted efforts behind the establishment of dozens of new settlements, the rapid pace of illegal outpost creation, the development of strategic roads, and extensive Palestinian building demolitions are all designed to consolidate Jewish control over the area, thereby effectively dismantling the prospect of a two-state solution. "No government has ever encouraged settlement as much as this one," stated Meir Deutsch, CEO of the hardline Regavim movement, as quoted by the channel. He further asserted, "Israel is managing Judea and Samaria as the homeowner for the first time since the state's establishment (1948/Palestinian Nakba)." The report details the announcement of at least 50 new settlements in the West Bank since the current government assumed power. Research data suggests that 19 of these newly recognized settlements were already in existence, seven are now designated as grazing farms, 14 are new neighborhoods integrated into existing settlements, and 10 exist purely as plans on paper. In parallel with the creation of these new settlements, construction within existing West Bank settlements has shattered previous records over the past two and a half years, intensifying significantly since early 2025. The channel indicated that permits for 41,709 settler homes have been approved—a figure that exceeds the total recorded during the six years preceding Netanyahu's current administration. By the end of 2024, the number of illegal settlement outposts in the West Bank had climbed to 214, with 66 of these emerging during the Israeli war in Gaza. The channel also highlighted a nearly 300 percent increase in outposts during the current government's first two years, in comparison to the previous two-year period. The majority of these newly established illegal outposts are agricultural, seizing vast areas of land. These grazing lands now reportedly encompass approximately 787 square kilometers, primarily concentrated in the central and eastern West Bank. The report also pointed to a corresponding rise in the settler population. Data from the West Bank settlements council Yesha indicates that between 2013 and 2023, the number of settlers increased by 38 percent, from 374,000 to 517,000.

Amelia Dimoldenberg Embraces Bella Hadid's Heritage

Bella Hadid has always been incredibly proud of her Palestinian heritage, and is one of the biggest celebrities to regularly speak out in support of Palestine. The 28-year-old model uses her public profile to advocate for Palestinian rights, raise awareness amid Israel's occupation of the country, and donate generously to relief efforts. For reference, Bella's dad, Mohamed Hadid, was born in Nazareth back in 1948, but he and his family were forced to flee to Lebanon before settling in Syria due to the 1948 Palestinian Nakba. This saw hundreds of thousands of Palestinian Arabs flee their homes or get expelled from their country by Zionist paramilitaries, Haganah, Irgun, and Lehi, which later merged to become the Israel Defense Forces once Israel was established. In December 2015, Mohamed shared a childhood photo of himself with his parents and three siblings on Instagram as he opened up about his family's history. He wrote at the time: 'Thats how we became refugees to Syria and we lost our home in Safad to a Jewish family that we sheltered when they were refugees from Poland on the ship that was sailing from country to country and no one would take them... they were our guest for 2 years till they made us refugees and they kicked us out of our own home. That my history.. Strange thing. That I and my family would do it again.' And while Bella's Palestinian pride has always been a huge part of her public image, the star has faced severe backlash from Israel's supporters in recent months. With that in mind, people were delighted by her recent appearance on Chicken Shop Date, where interviewer Amelia Dimoldenberg subtly let the star know she was in a safe space to discuss and embrace her heritage. 'You are half-Dutch, half-Palestinian,' Amelia began. 'So, out of your mom and your dad, who makes the best food?' 'My dad,' Bella immediately replied. 'Growing up, it'd be, like, spreads… He doesn't cook for four people. Anybody that's Arab knows Arab parents cook for 50 people, and that's pretty much it. My dream for him one day would always be to open a restaurant.' 'Take care of his heritage,' Bella continued, before appearing to hesitate over how to phrase what she said next. 'And, like, the legacy of our, uhm… You know, who we are as people, and… And what our food is to the world.' 'I think the Palestinian restaurant sounds amazing,' Amelia quickly and enthusiastically interjected, at which point Bella visibly relaxed and smiled as she said: 'It would be incredible.' Viewers were quick to pick up on this sweet moment between Amelia and Bella when the interview clip was shared to X, with one particularly viral tweet reading: 'I think Amelia let her know this was a safe space to say Palestine and I actually love that. You can see the hesitation a bit.''She was lowkey avoiding saying Palestinian, then Amelia said it,' a similarly popular tweet added. Somebody else wrote: 'Bella seemed so nervous to say the word so she just didn't (I don't blame her given the disgusting attacks on her), meanwhile Amelia made a point of saying the word Palestinian twice, making it really clear where she stood. Makes such a difference.''I really appreciate Amelia saying Palestine out loud bc watching Bella mince her words is actually painful to witness, she should never have to be so careful just talking about where her family is from,' another more theorized: 'bella wasn't afraid to say palestine for her sake but rather didn't want to create any controversy for amelia and her show but then amelia let her know she was an ally and i think that's wonderful.'While somebody else circled back to the original topic as they tweeted: 'I encourage anyone to try Palestinian cuisine if you ever wanna try some of the most incredible food you will ever eat in your life."

Cultural activities in Palestinian camps in Lebanon emphasize right of return

South Lebanon - Saba: The Palestinian Nakba remains alive in the memory of refugees every year—not merely as a remembrance but as an ongoing reality of displacement, uprooting, and deprivation. As the 77th anniversary approaches of the forced expulsion of over 750,000 Palestinians from their villages and cities in 1948, youth and cultural initiatives emerge as tools of intellectual resistance, striving to preserve collective memory and reinforce concepts of identity and belonging. According to Quds Press, Palestinian camps in Lebanon hold a unique symbolic and political significance as living witnesses to the ongoing Nakba and as spaces of cultural , social resistance against resettlement and oblivion schemes. In Ain al-Hilweh camp in Sidon, southern Lebanon, the Palestinian Democratic Youth Union (PDYU) organized an educational cultural activity titled "Palestinian Villages and Cities Displaced in 1948," targeting youth. The event saw participation from Palestinian students and featured interactive presentations and illustrative maps detailing the history, traditions, landmarks of the displaced villages and cities. Organizers emphasized that the activity aimed to "strengthen awareness of Palestinian national identity and connect new generations to their roots and land, countering displacement and erasure efforts," as part of the union's broader cultural program. Similarly, the Youth and Students Sector of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) held a Palestinian heritage day in the Al-Burj Al-Shamali camp in southern Lebanon. The event was attended by representatives of student and youth groups, national and Islamic factions, popular committees, and local residents. Whatsapp Telegram Email Print more of (International)

Palestinian memorial observance takes place at Grays Lake

DES MOINES, Iowa — A memorial held at Gray's Lake on Saturday honored 200 Palestinian children in a special way. The Catholic Peace Ministry, Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, and the Middle East Peace Education Coalition held a memorial observance of the 77th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba. Kathleen Mcquillen, the Director of the Catholic Peace Ministry, said that the observance served to educate the public. 'May 15th marks the 77th anniversary of what's called the Palestinian Nakba, which means catastrophe. This is when Israel proclaimed itself a state and drove 750,000 Palestinian off their own land. They've never been allowed to return, although the U.N. has declared and has resolutions affirming their right to return. It's never happened,' Mcquillen said. Concrete Cruizers Car Show donates proceeds to school for fifth year The observance memorial had 200 pinwheels placed in the ground with the names of Palestinian children that have been killed since the Palestinian Nakba. 'What we have here are 200 pinwheels reminding us that these are our children. These are kids who should be playing. They should be playing above ground. Instead, they're buried in the ground. We have the names and ages on them. Now, the 200 represents something like 1.2% of those who have been killed just since October of 2023,' Mcquillen said. Mcquillen said that the response from people walking by was positive. 'I feel very good about the response. I mean, again, we do a lot of events in which our allies come to it, but this was to reach people who maybe don't even know the story. And so I feel very good about people who suffered to people who made a donation and requested people who signed our sign up.' Mcquillen said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
