Panchamasali Trust mulls alternative to seer in Kudalasangama
Hubballi: Vijayanand Kashappanavar, president of Akhil Bharata Lingayat Panchamasali Trust, said they are considering appointing an alternative pontiff for the Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha Kudalasangama. Speaking to reporters on Saturday, Kashappanavar said the trustees have not asked Basavajaya Mruthyunjaya Swami to relinquish the post of pontiff. "However, as swamiji himself expressed his intention to establish his own mutt on the banks of River Malaprabha, we are planning to appoint another seer soon. Community members are disappointed by his behaviour," he added. His statement follows an open rift with Swami in recent months. He mentioned that a "great leader" purchased land for the peetha between Hubballi and Belagavi. "Swamiji can establish his mutt on the banks of River Malaprabha or between Hubballi and Belagavi. We have no objections. We will appoint an alternative seer to spread Basava philosophies. A decision will be made in a trustees' meeting to be held soon," he stated. He recalled that Swami was appointed in 2008 for the development of Panchamasali community and to spread the philosophies of Basava and other sharanas. However, he forgot those aspects and became involved in recommending transfers of govt officials and employees. "He pursued publicity. According to the trust bylaws, swamijis are not allowed to own properties. Yet, he owns two houses in Belagavi, and one each in Hubballi and Bengaluru. The trust issued a notice to him in 2019, and he apologised for it. He rarely stays in the peetha. Whenever he was there, some illicit activities occurred with some miscreants. Suspicious of his activities, we installed CCTV cameras there," he claimed. When asked about the incident of locking the peetha in Kudalasangama, Kashappanavar said it was to protect the peetha. "Swamiji broke the lock through someone and felicitated them for doing so. Swamiji is sitting under a party banner and speaking in favour of only one person," he alleged. Another Panchamasali leader, Neelakanth Asuti, alleged that Swami had not visited Kudalasangama for long.

Gates fixed at Panchamasali Peetha and locked, but seer has no idea who did it
Unidentified persons locked up the gate of the Panchamasali Peetha, the headquarters of Sri Basava Jaymrutyunjaya Swamy, in Kudala Sangama in Bagalkot district of Karnataka on July 13 night. Iron gates have been put in the front, back and on the way to the staircase, and they have been locked. But, the seer, who is touring Vijayapura district, said he had no idea who did it, or why. There was a dispute between the seer and Vijayananda Kashappanavar, MLA and chairman of the All India Lingayat Panchamasali Trust. There was talk of setting up an alternative religious centre for the Panchamasali community in Kudala Sangama. There was speculation that the trust put up the gates to lock out the seer, who was travelling. Mr. Kashappanavar told reporters in Hungund that he had instructed the trust to lock up the premises as a security measure. 'A locked gate will prevent nuisance inside the math premises. I am the president of the trust, and the security of the premises is my responsibility. I cannot ask the seer to lock the gates. We have done it for security. There is no other purpose,' he said. Another group of devotees led by former minister Murugesh Nirani had set up another centre for the Panchamasali community in Harihar. The centre is headed by Sri Vachanananda Swami.

Miscreants lock up Lingayat Panchamasali Peetha; police step up security
Bagalkot: Unidentified miscreants locked up Lingayat Panchamasali Jagadguru Peetha of Kudalasangama on Saturday night. Police have stepped up security in the area to avoid any untoward incidents. Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swamiji, the pontiff of the peetha, told TOI that he came to know about the incident through some WhatsApp groups on Sunday. "We are out of station. Miscreants, who could not tolerate the support of the Panchamasali community for our agitation, might have locked up the peetha. Police were informed and they assured security for our buildings," he added. He also said he was busy planning the next course of action in the agitation demanding 2A reservation for the community. It may be recalled that Hungund MLA Vijayanand Kashappanavar had said that he would change the pontiff if needed. Following a rift with Basava Jaya Mruthyunjaya Swamiji, many leaders of the Panchamasali community supported the idea of changing the pontiff of the peetha. Kashappanavar is the new president of Akhila Bharat Panchamasali Samaj and the president of the peetha. Rifts arose between the pontiff and community leaders, including Kashappanavar, over MLA Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, who was expelled by BJP. Following this, the swamiji is said to have visited Kudalasangama rarely. Despite repeated attempts, Kashappanavar was unavailable for comment.

Will not demand 2A reservation as long as Siddaramaiah remains CM, says Seer
BELAGAVI: Kudalasangama Basava Jayamruthyunjaya Swamiji has declared that the Panchamasali community will not demand 2A reservation as long as Siddaramaiah remains the state's chief minister. Speaking to media in Belagavi on Friday, the seer said, 'During the Assembly session, the government tried to suppress the Panchamasali movement by resorting to lathicharge. For this reason, we have decided not to seek reservation during Siddaramaiah's tenure.' He expressed happiness over the High Court's rejection of the Karnataka government's petition in connection with the lathicharge incident and said 'The government, acting illegally and in collusion with the police, unleashed a deadly assault on peaceful protestors. We had demanded that the officers responsible for the unl wful assault be suspended. Following this, we staged a nine-day agitation to press our demands, but the State Government remained indifferent,' he said. 'We then moved the High Court, questioning the wrongful actions of the government. On April 4, HC accepted our petition and delivered a historic verdict. It directed that an investigation be conducted by a bench of three judges within three months. However, even after the three-month deadline, the government has made no effort to initiate an invest-igation. It appears the government is now filled with regret,' he added.
