Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu Faces Backlash, Bahujan Community Threatens To Block Release

Last Updated: Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu faces protests from Bahujan group over misrepresentation of folk hero Panduga Sayanna. Krish and Jyothi Krishna's Hari Hara Veera Mallu, starring Pawan Kalyan, is all set to release on July 24. This will mark Pawan Kalyan's first film after becoming the Deputy CM of Andhra Pradesh. However, it looks like the movie has hit a roadblock, with a Bahujan group voicing their protest over the film's titular character. The community has accused the makers of misrepresenting the story. Members of the community have claimed that Hari Hara Veera Mallu has portrayed their folk hero, Panduga Sayanna, in wrong light. The community representatives believe that the lead character in the film closely resembles Panduga Sayanna, known as the Robin Hood of Telangana, but is shown in a misleading narrative. The protesters have demanded that the makers of the film look into the matter and have threatened to stop the film's release if their complaints go unheard. Meanwhile, the protestors have also requested several other Bahujan groups to join them and stand against the release of the film for presenting misleading and incorrect facts about their hero. Presented by AM Rathnam, Hari Hara Veera Mallu Part 1: Sword Vs Spirit's power-packed trailer was released by the makers on July 3. It features Pawan Kalyan as a rebellious warrior who dares to defy the mighty Mughal emperor, Aurangzeb, played by Bobby Deol. The 2-minute 56-second video begins with a voiceover that evokes the national spirit to protect Sanatana Dharma against the Delhi Sultanate. The Kushi star can be seen flexing his sheer personality with a commanding on-screen performance. The electrifying sequences of fight, war, and action transport the audience to the era of the epic clash between Indian warriors and the Mughals for the Kohinoor diamond. Apart from Pawan Kalyan and Bobby Deol's fearless face-off, the trailer also has a series of goosebump-inducing moments for fans. The sneak peeks of the much-anticipated movie highlight the use of iconic mythological references from Indian history and Sanatana Dharma, such as the celestial arrow of Lord Rama, among others. The trailer also features Telugu dialogues like 'The storm has arrived," 'Everyone prays to God for me to come… but you wish I wouldn't come," and many others. First Published:

Pawan Kalyan's Hari Hara Veera Mallu faces backlash from Bahujan community for ‘distorting legacy' of Telangana folk hero; protestors threaten to stop release

Telugu star Pawan Kalyan's much-delayed Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1 has found itself embroiled in controversy just days after the arrival of its trailer and merely three weeks before its scheduled release. One of the most anticipated Telugu films of the year, Hari Hara Veera Mallu, has come under fire from a Bahujan community for allegedly distorting the legacy of one of their revered heroes. Claiming that the film's central character, Veera Mallu, played by Pawan Kalyan, closely resembles folk hero Panduga Sayanna, members of the Mudiraj community alleged that the character has been depicted through a fictional and misleading narrative. According to reports, Panduga Sayanna was a champion of the poor who fought against the feudal systems and the oppressive rule of Deshmukhs, Patels and Zamindars during the Nizam era in the 19th century. Calling on other Bahujan communities to join them in opposing what they see as an attempt to tarnish Panduga Sayanna's legacy, the protestors also warned that they may take steps to obstruct the film's release if their concerns remain unaddressed. As of now, neither producer A Dayakar Rao of Mega Surya Production nor the film's directors Krish Jagarlamudi and AM Jyothi Krishna have responded to the controversy. Pawan Kalyan, who also serves as the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh and is the founding president of the Jana Sena Party (JSP), too has yet to comment on the matter. Having been in the making for a long time, Hari Hara Veera Mallu's release has been postponed multiple times since 2022 due to production delays, particularly stemming from Pawan Kalyan's political commitments. After being deferred several times, the film is now slated for release on July 24. Also starring Nidhhi Agerwal, Bobby Deol, Nargis Fakhri, Nora Fatehi and Sathyaraj in key roles, the movie features music by Oscar-winning composer MM Keeravaani, cinematography by Manoj Paramahamsa and Gnana Shekar VS, editing by KL Praveen, and production design by Thota Tharrani.
