Thane police take action after auto driver argues, attempts to assault passenger over short distance fare
Thane: The Thane police have taken cognisance of a viral video showing an auto driver allegedly arguing and attempting to assault a passenger after he was angry that the commuter wanted to travel a short distance. The incident occurred last week when the unidentified passenger, presumably a lady, boarded the auto from Thane railway station and was headed towards Teen Haath Naka. The driver seemed uninterested in short-distance fares and got into an argument with the passenger en route. Midway, the driver turned around, confronted the passenger, and even attempted to hit her after she warned him she was filming and recording their conversation with the intent to make it public on social media. "We received the video on Sunday, following which we tracked the auto owner based on the vehicle registration number. He told us his son was driving the auto. We penalised the driver under relevant sections of the Maharashtra Motor Vehicles Rules for misbehaviour with a passenger," informed Deputy Police Commissioner, Thane Traffic, Pankaj Shirsat.
