Paramount+ rebrands premium tier: What you need to know about the new name and pricing
Paramount Global has now planned to drop the 'Showtime' label from its highest subscription tier, which was previously known as Paramount+ with Showtime , and would now be called Paramount+ Premium, as per a report. Why Is Paramount+ Changing Name of One Of Its Plans Now? According to The Deadline report, the Paramount+ Showtime cable network brand and even the top-tier programming for the streaming service will be staying intact. The company explained to users in the streaming app that Paramount+ had made the change as the firm had recently 'introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential [lowest-tier] plan,' and pointed out that calling the higher tier Paramount+ Premium, therefore, 'reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers,' as quoted in The Deadline report. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like At Last, An ED Pill for 87¢ That Actually Works Health Alliance by Friday Plans Learn More Undo Paramount also highligted in its statement that the Showtime programming 'remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service!,' as quoted in the Deadline report. Paramount+ with Showtime is no more: What is the name of the streaming service's new ad-free tier?
Paramount+ has long touted its association with Showtime as a selling point for its higher-priced premium tier. However, that is now changing, with the streaming service undergoing a rebrand and dropping the Paramount+ with Showtime tier, and instead simplifying its offerings to the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential, and the ad-free Paramount+ Premium. This isn't because of Showtime content being removed from the service. Rather, a sampling of Showtime's programming has been added to the ad-supported Paramount+ Essential tier, thus diluting the distinction between the two tiers. This is simply a branding change that does not affect the pricing of either the Essential or Premium tier, with Essential still costing $7.99 per month, and Premium still costing $12.99 per month. Furthermore, this change only affects internet streaming, with cable, satellite and live TV services retaining the Paramount+ with Showtime branding. Paramount+ with Showtime first launched in 2022 The streaming service first launched its Paramount+ with Showtime subscription tier in August 2022. The service intended to use the massive, acclaimed library of Showtime content to bolster the value of its higher-tier subscription bracket. In 2023, the streaming service had as many as four subscription tiers. There was Paramount+ Essential, Paramount+ Premium, Paramount+ Essential with Showtime, and Paramount+ Premium with Showtime. This subscription model was greatly simplified in June of that year, resulting in just two subscription tiers: Paramount+ Essential and Paramount+ with Showtime. With the further streamlining that's occurred in June 2025, Showtime content will be available for both the Essential and Premium tiers, although viewers will still need to subscribe to Paramount+ Premium for an ad-free experience and the complete Showtime library. Paramount+ began life as CBS All Access Paramount+ is the media conglomerate Paramount's answer to the streaming boom that was originally spearheaded by pioneers such as Netflix. But the service was originally CBS All Access, the first OTT streaming service launched by an established American broadcast network. CBS All Access would be rebranded as Paramount+ in 2021, in an era were OTT streaming was beginning to eclipse traditional cable and network television as the dominant form service used by viewers. Under this rebranding, Paramount+ has aggressively pursued the production of original exclusives such as MobLand, Tulsa King and Halo.

Paramount+ With Showtime Streaming Service Gets Renamed ‘Paramount+ Premium'
Paramount Global has quietly erased Showtime from the name of its top-tier streaming package. On June 23, Paramount informed subscribers that the name of its ad-free plan is no longer Paramount+ With Showtime — instead, it's now called Paramount+ Premium. The pricing of the package remains the same: It still costs $12.99 per month or $119.99 per year. More from Variety Gary Levine to Retire From Showtime After 40 Years in Programming 'Dexter: Resurrection' Trailer: Dexter Morgan Is Back in Bloody Revival How to Watch the 2025 UEFA Champions League Final Live Online The two packages now offered by the company are Paramount+ Premium, which does not have ads except in the bundled live local CBS feeds; and Paramount+ Essential with ads ($7.99 per month). The company rebranded the ad-free package as Paramount+ With Showtime in the summer of 2023, and said it would phase out the stand-alone Showtime streamer (which shut down in April 2024). Now, after two years, the company is dropping the Showtime name. 'Since we recently introduced a sampling of Showtime programming to the Essential plan, the Premium plan name reflects the broad and diverse offerings across both plan tiers,' the company said in a notice on its customer-support site about the name change. 'Showtime programming remains an important part of Paramount+, and is still prominently represented on the service!' The name change comes as Warner Bros. Discovery has gone back in the other direction: It's going to reattach the HBO name to its flagship Max streamer, which will this summer become HBO Max again. Meanwhile, in what may potentially cause some confusion, the name of the Paramount+ With Showtime linear TV network on cable, satellite, or internet TV streaming services (like Hulu with Live TV) will not be changing, according to Paramount. Paramount said that depending on a customer's device, they 'may not see the plan name change immediately. But rest assured, if you sign up for the Premium plan while it's still Paramount+ With Showtime, your plan benefits will not be impacted!'
