Paramount Plus renews crime series starring Tom Hardy for a season 2 after the show becomes their second most-watched show ever with over 26 million viewers

Tom Hardy will continue to play the brutally effective fixer Harry Da Souza in Paramount Plus' MobLand, as the series has just been renewed for a second season. The streamer reports that 26 million viewers have watched the show since it was released on March 30, making it the second most-watched original series on the service. The series, created by Top Boy's Ronan Bennett and executive produced by Guy Ritchie, follows Hardy's resourceful fixer as he is caught up in a mafia war between London's top crime families. Per the official synopsis, the series "showcases two generations of gangsters, their businesses, the relationships they weave and the man they call to fix their problems." Along with Hardy, MobLand stars Oscar winner Helen Mirren, Pierce Brosnan, House of the Dragon star Paddy Considine, and Downton Abbey's Joanne Froggatt. Initially conceived as a prequel series for the hit drama Ray Donovan, MobLand has now become one of Paramount Plus' top shows, with a solid viewership and a 75% Rotten Tomatoes score. According to the streamer, the show spent five consecutive weeks in Nielsen's ranking of Top 10 SVOD Original Series. "With over 26 million viewers and climbing, MobLand has become a resounding triumph driven by the creative brilliance of [producers] Guy [Ritchie], Jez [Butterworth], Ronan [Bennett] and David C. Glasser, and brought to life by the powerhouse performances by Tom, Pierce, and Helen," said co-CEO of Paramount and president of Showtime/MTV Entertainment, Chris McCarthy, in a statement. "We are elated to greenlight a second season of this global phenomenon, which has dominated both domestic and international charts and soared to #1 in the United Kingdom," he added. 'Addictive' TV crime thriller back for season 2 after scoring 26,000,000 viewers
A thriller dubbed 'superb' and 'outstanding' has been renewed for a second season after dazzling Paramount Plus users. Despite previously facing cancellation fears, it has been confirmed that MobLand will be coming back with brand new episodes in the future. It has amassed a whopping 26million viewers since it began last year, making it Paramount Plus' second biggest original of all time following Taylor Sheridan's Landman. Announcing the news, writer and executive producer Jez Butterworth said they are 'excited' to be creating the second season, which as yet does not have a release date. 'Landman' Cast Reflects on the Show's Success and Season 2 Excitement
'Landman,' Paramount Plus' hit series about the high-stakes world of West Texas oil, has quickly become the platform's most-streamed show worldwide. In a recent Q&A on June 7 at the Culver Theater, the L.A. Times' Greg Braxton spoke with Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland and Andy Garcia about their thoughts on the show's success, their on-screen chemistry and what fans can look forward to in Season 2. Ali Larter reflected on the moment the show felt like a hit, saying, 'Nobody's phoning it in. Everyone is really committed to telling this story in a real and authentic way.' Jacob Lofland also added, 'It's still kind of surreal how big this has become.' Meanwhile, Billy Bob Thornton described the experience as working with a family, he said 'it's just fun when you're with a group of people who are really into it.' The television series was created by Taylor Sheridan and Christian Wallace, which was inspired by the podcast 'Boomtown' hosted by Wallace. Andy Garcia praised Taylor Sheridan's writing style, explaining how it pushes boundaries by portraying raw and real conversations. 'He's a fearless writer,' Garcia said. Thornton added, 'Taylor doesn't take sides. He just shows the realities of the oil world and lets the characters be unapologetically themselves.' On-screen chemistry is a huge part of the show's appeal. Larter described her character's relationship as a 'beautiful, messy, complicated love story' that is filled with vulnerability beneath the tension. Lofland called the chemistry across the cast 'a lucky situation,' noting, 'Everyone just clicked right away.' Garcia, who joined the cast as a powerful cartel head, spoke about his debut scene with Thornton. 'It was intense, but there was also a subtlety to it. Billy Bob and I really found a rhythm, respecting each other's space and keeping it authentic,' Garcia said. Thornton praised Garcia's professionalism, saying, 'He's generous and knows how to bring depth without overdoing it.' The actors also shared how they approach their characters' emotional depth. Larter said, 'Angela's strength comes with a lot of vulnerability. Filming those intense scenes for long hours is challenging but rewarding.' Lofland added, 'A lot of the emotion is real. You're surrounded by these huge landscapes and the gravity of the story seeps in.' Looking ahead to season two, Garcia teased that his character has a surprising side, saying 'he runs a ballet studio as a front, which adds an interesting layer.' Thornton also hinted at more family drama and identity struggles, promising, 'Season two will dive deeper into these complicated relationships.' Harrison Ford has shock response when asked about returning to the Yellowstone universe
Paramount Plus' second Yellowstone prequel series 1923 came to a close with the bloody Season 2 finale last month, leaving fans curious about the future of the franchise. While the streaming service does have another prequel series in development - 1944 - set more than two decades later - very little has been confirmed about the show. It is believed to follow the life of 20-year-old John Dutton II, who was just born in the 1923 Season 2 finale, who will seemingly father Kevin Costner 's John Dutton III. Many fans were surprised that both Harrison Ford, 82, and Helen Mirren, 79, survived the bloody Season 2 finale, which could technically open the door for his and Mirren's return in 1944. Granted, they would both be 100 years old in the show, if they returned in the present day during the 1944 series. While there is the possibility of Ford and Mirren returning in flashback scenes, set between 1923 and 1944, Ford revealed at a for your consideration (FYC) event (via THR) that he would be open to returning. 'I'm still alive,' Ford said of the possibility of returning, joking he'd only do so if series creator Taylor Sheridan, 'asks nice.' Still, he admitted, 'I have no idea what his plans are,' referring to Sheridan and the 1944 prequel. Mirren also joked she was, 'convinced that I was going to die so I was quite surprised I was still alive at the end of the show.' Both Jacob and Cara Dutton did indeed survive the bloody final standoff between the Dutton's and the wealthy Donald Whitfield (Timothy Dalton), who was trying to wrest the Dutton family land from them. The Season 2 finale also finally brought Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) and Spencer Dutton (Brandon Sklenar) back together after being torn apart all season, with Alex giving birth to John Dutton II, named after Spencer's late brother, though Alex would die shortly after giving birth. The 1923 newborn John Dutton II seems to be the show's direct link to the flashship Yellowstone universe, as John Dutton III's father, though that has yet to be directly confirmed from Sheridan's camp. Still, Mirren was enthralled by the finale, that this family essentially hinges on this newborn baby in the Season 2 finale. 'I love the fact that the future of Yellowstone is left in this tiny baby, in the arms of two older people, grandparents age. I thought that was a very interesting concept,' Mirren said. As far as a potential return for Ford, there was a moment in the Yellowstone Season 2 finale that featured a flashback of a young John Dutton III (Costner) and a 90-year-old John Dutton II (Dabney Coleman), who tells his son not to sell an inch of the land his family has amassed over the years. While Jacob wasn't Spencer's father or John III's father, he did serve as the ranch's protector for decades, so it's possible there could be a similar scene with an aging Jacob near death and a young John Dutton II or Spencer. Paramount is also developing present-day Yellowstone spin-offs following Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) and another for CBS following Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes).

Landman Season 2 adds a new star from creator Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe
Paramount Plus' beloved new series Landman is getting a new star for its second season, one fans familiar with Taylor Sheridan's Yellowstone universe will be familiar with. The first season of Landman debuted in mid-November 2024 with the 10-episode season wrapping up in early January, starring Billy Bob Thornton as Tommy Norris. The streaming service renewed the series for a second season back in March, with production starting up earlier this month. Thornton returns alongside Demi Moore, Andy Garcia, Ali Larter, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, Paulina Chávez, Kayla Wallace, Mark Collie, James Jordan and Colm Feore in Season 2. Sheridan also created Landman alongside Christian Wallace, based on Wallace's Boomtown podcast. Who will be joining Thornton and the rest of the cast in the West Texas oil drama? It's none other than Sam Elliott, who starred in Sheridan's Yellowstone prequel 1883. There are no details as to what character Elliott may be portraying on the show, which follows the lives of both blue collar and white collar men and women in the West Texas gas and oil industry. It's possible that Elliott could be playing Thornton's on-screen father, though they're just 11 years apart, but we'll have to wait and see. This will be Elliott's second stint in a Taylor Sheridan series, following his portrayal of Shea Brennan in the first Yellowstone prequel 1883. Brennan was a former Union Army captain who works for the Pinkerton Agency, leading a wagon train expedition westward. His emotional portrayal of Brennan - fueled by the loss of the character's wife and daughter to smallpox - earned Elliott a Screen Actors Guild Award in 2023. With production currently under way in Texas, it's possible the second season could eye a November debut like the first season, though no date has been revealed yet. The show is set in the West Texas oil fields, following the fictional oil company M-TEX and landman Tommy Norris, who juggles both his wild job and his family. When Tommy's not trying to control his ex Angela (Ali Larter) and daughter Ainsley (Michelle Randolph), he's trying to protect M-TEX's stake in a volatile landscape including drug cartels and rival oil companies. This will be Elliott's second stint in a Taylor Sheridan series, following his portrayal of Shea Brennan in the first Yellowstone prequel 1883 Landman ranked as a top 10 streaming video on demand (SVOD) original series in the fourth quarter of 2024. 'The series had 35 million global streaming viewers for the premiere episode and set new several records for Paramount Plus. It was the streaming service's most watched global premiere and finale in the streamer's history, and it was its top original show, engagement driver and household hit. Elliott will next lend his voice to The Dragon in the upcoming film Grendel alongside Bryan Cranston, Dave Bautista and Jeff Bridges.
