Not car or house, Jackie Shroff got a toilet as gift after becoming Bollywood star

Veteran Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff , who rose to fame in the 1980s, has often spoken about his modest beginnings in Mumbai's Teen Batti area. Despite becoming a star early in his career with films like Hero (1983) and Teri Meherbaniyan (1985), Jackie continued to live in the same chawl where he grew up. At a time when he had already become a recognizable face in the film industry, his neighbors in the chawl decided to honor his success in a rather unconventional way — by gifting him a personal toilet. A Unique Gift After Stardom During an interview with Filmfare, Jackie recounted how, after achieving success in cinema, he was given access to a private washroom in the chawl. The locality had only three common washrooms shared by around 30 residents. As filmmakers and industry colleagues started visiting him at home, they often had to wait in line to use the shared facilities. This didn't sit well with the other residents, who felt it wasn't right for a public figure like Jackie, or his guests, to stand in queue. Understanding the growing inconvenience, the residents offered Jackie exclusive use of one washroom. Although he initially declined, saying he and his friends were fine using the common toilets, they insisted and secured it with a lock for his personal use. Jackie mentioned that at the time, even having a cupboard in the house was a big deal, highlighting how small things carried great value in those days. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like The Simple Morning Habit for a Flatter Belly After 50! Lulutox Undo Still Connected to His Past Even after decades in the industry and dozens of successful films to his name — including Parinda, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Rangeela, and Border — Jackie has remained deeply attached to his roots. He frequently visits his old home in Teen Batti and cherishes the memories from those early days. In a conversation on Vickey Lalwani's YouTube channel, Jackie revealed that he has been trying to rent the room where he spent his childhood. However, the landlord has refused to lease it back to him. Jackie offered to pay the same amount as the current tenants but said the landlord has continued to resist the idea, possibly due to concerns that Jackie might keep it permanently. Jackie's Long Career and Grounded Persona From being a street-smart youngster to becoming one of Bollywood's most dependable actors, Jackie Shroff has appeared in an array of films across multiple languages. Known for his versatile roles and earthy charm, he has taken on both leading and supporting characters in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Konkani, and Punjabi films. Beyond acting, he is also known for his environmental advocacy. Even after all the fame and success, Jackie's simplicity stands out. His story about being gifted a toilet isn't just a quirky anecdote — it reflects the deep bond he shares with his community and his unpretentious attitude toward fame.

Meet man who wanted to be an actor, but never became one, is now a famous…, changed lives of Madhuri Dixit, Manisha Koirala, Anil Kapoor, Jackie Shroff, he is…

So many people who come to Mumbai aspire to be actors. However, not everyone has the luck or potential to make it. Today, we will talk about a man who delivered a blockbuster film, yet chose to leave the industry. Even though he is no longer an actor, he is known as the Godfather of Madhuri Dixit. If you are wondering who we are talking about, then this ace director is none other than Subhash Ghai. In 1979, Subhash Ghai entered the world of direction with the film Kaliyachan. Before making his directorial debut, Subhash played small roles in films. Sadly, Ghai didn't find much success as an actor, but when he debuted as a director, his luck changed. Over the next few years, he delivered hits like Parinda and Taal. Subhash's acting debut was alongside Rajesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore in the film Aaradhana. He also did small roles in movies such as Umang, Bharat Ke Shaheed, Sherni, and Natak. When he realised acting wasn't working out for him, he went different ways and decided to pursue direction. His first film Kaliyachan became a massive success, and also became a turning point in his career. Kaliyachan featured Shatrughan Sinha. This film's success not only gave a major boost to Shatrughan's career but also established Subhash Ghai's in Bollywood. After receiving massive success as a director, Ghai went on to deliver hits including Vishwanath, Gautam Govinda, Karz, Krodhi, Hero, Vidhaata, Karma, Ram Lakhan, Saudagar, Khalnayak, Yaadein, Yuvvraaj, Black & White, and Kaanchi. These movies not only performed well at the box office, but also gave identities to their lead actors. Madhuri Dixit's Godfather After Madhuri's debut film Abodh, she faced a series of flops. After these setbacks, Subhash Ghai chose to give her another opportunity and reintroduced her in Ram Lakhan, which turned out to be a huge hit and gave her a strong identity.

'Will Come Naked...': Nana Patekar Begged Amol Palekar After Rejection For Hitting A Director

Last Updated: Nana Patekar's off-screen reputation nearly closed doors with Amol Palekar after a rumoured altercation with Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Long before Nana Patekar became known for his intense screen presence, his off-screen reputation nearly closed doors for him. In the late 1980s, fresh off the success of Parinda, Nana found himself in a difficult spot and not because of his acting chops, but because of what happened behind the scenes. Rumours of a physical altercation with Parinda director Vidhu Vinod Chopra had spread, and that image stuck. So when Amol Palekar was casting for Thodasa Roomani Ho Jayen in 1990, he didn't see Nana fitting into the gentle, poetic role at the heart of his film. 'I didn't reject him because of his short temper," Amol said in an interview with The Lallantop. 'That character was far away from being a short temper guy, in fact, that character had a poetic heart, he was very soft. I told Nana, 'You don't have softness in your whole personality and you won't be able to do it.'" But Nana wasn't one to give up easily. Rather than reacting with more heat, he approached Amol with humility and persistence. 'He kept pursuing me," Palekar recalled. 'This was the time when Parinda was a hit and his gritty character in the film was a hit, he was seen as the angry young man. At that time, people were also talking about how Nana beat up Vidhu Vinod Chopra during Parinda shoot. There was physical fight between them." Despite the noise around him, Nana showed he was willing to strip himself of that aggressive image to prove his range as an actor. Amol added, 'So, it is obvious that he didn't come close to my character. But he took it as a challenge and came to me for 10 days and did rehearsals with me. He told me, 'I will come to you naked, you shape me how you want.' During those 10 days of rehearsals he changed completely, his personality changed completely. And during the whole shoot we didn't even have an argument, forget about getting into a fight." Vidhu Vinod Chopra once opened up about a heated confrontation with Nana Patekar during the making of Parinda. Speaking on the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa, the filmmaker recalled how a disagreement on set unexpectedly spiralled into a physical altercation. He had shared, 'There's a scene in the film where Nana asks if he has tears in his eyes after his wife has died… We'd been shooting all day, and it was late in the evening. Nana declared that he was too tired to continue and that he was going home. I told him, 'Sure, you pay for the overheads then'. He started swearing at me, I swore back, and in the scuffle, I tore his kurta. The cops on set said, 'We're here to protect you, and you're fighting among yourselves.'" First Published:

Amol Palekar refused to cast Nana Patekar after hearing he hit Vidhu Vinod Chopra during Parinda shoot, actor pursued him: ‘I will come to you naked, you shape me…'

Many have spoken about Nana Patekar's fiery temperament in the past, and it was precisely this reputation that almost cost him a role in Amol Palekar's film Thodasa Roomani Ho Jayen. In an earlier interaction, Amol had revealed that he initially refused to cast Nana in his 1990 film despite the actor's insistence, as he had heard of a scuffle between Nana and director Vidhu Vinod Chopra during the making of their 1989 film Parinda. When asked if he turned Nana down because of his short temper, Amol told The Lallantop, 'I didn't reject him because of his short temper. That character was far away from being a short temper guy, in fact, that character had a poetic heart, he was very soft. I told Nana, 'You don't have softness in your whole personality and you won't be able to do it.'' However, Nana didn't take Amol's criticism to heart and continued to pursue the role. Explaining further, Amol said, 'He kept pursuing me. This was the time when Parinda was a hit and his gritty character in the film was a hit, he was seen as the angry young man. At that time, people were also talking about how Nana beat up Vidhu Vinod Chopra during Parinda shoot. There was physical fight between them.' And during the whole shoot we didn't even have an argument, forget about getting into a fight.' Vidhu Vinod Chopra had earlier opened up about his clash with Nana on the sets of Parinda on the reality show Sa Re Ga Ma Pa. He recalled how a disagreement escalated into a physical altercation. He shared, 'There's a scene in the film where Nana asks if he has tears in his eyes after his wife has died… We'd been shooting all day, and it was late in the evening.
