McGlynn expects to add another three to Falkirk squad

Falkirk boss John McGlynn only expects to add another three players to his Bairns squad, trusting a lot of the squad that won promotion from the Championship last Bain and Brian Graham have been the only additions so far this summer, two experienced operators joining from Celtic and Partick Thistle respectively."We're going to have a continuity within our squad," McGlynn told BBC Scotland. "We're not going to make loads of changes. We've made two."We expect to bring in another three to give us a boost to help what we've got. But that continuity, the players' camaraderie and the togetherness that they've got, we're relying a lot on that."The manager also pointed out the difference between Falkirk coming up as compared to Dundee United the season prior."We have the example of Dundee United going up and doing particularly well. There's an example there that you can go up and do well."Now, Jim does very well in that market, bringing in the foreign players. We've not got plenty of foreign players coming to us, but he's had that at Aberdeen, he's got trust in the people that he's dealing with there.""That's further down the line for us. We're still focussing on UK players, looking at some loan deals still to materialise."But that's really, really important. Recruitment is important. We didn't do a lot coming up from League One and the team went out and produced. It is a big step."

Jags For Good launch annual Partick Thistle season ticket fundraiser

Jags For Good have launched their annual fundraiser to distribute season tickets to local charities and Partick Thistle supporters struggling with the cost of living. The fans' group, comprised of volunteers who campaign for social justice, have raised around £30,000 over the past three years to provide an opportunity to attend games at Firhill for those who would be otherwise unable to do so. Advertisement Now in its fourth year, Jags For Good are hoping to raise £5,000 via the fundraiser – and Neil Cowan, a founding member of the group, is asking fans who can afford it to consider donating to the cause. At the time of publication, £2,640 has already been raised. The scheme's short-term benefits are obvious, but it has also had the long-term effect of adding a few converts to the red-and-yellow army, as Cowan explains. 'This is the fourth season,' he said. 'We first launched the fundraiser in 2022 and we've done it every year since. 'In total, we've raised the best part of £30,000 over the last three years. This year we have set a target of £5,000 initially. It's a bit lower because people have been finding it tough financially over the past few years. Advertisement 'We're running it again because we've seen the impact it's had in the last few years. We've had loads of nice messages from people saying, 'I wasn't a Thistle fan before, but I came along with my son or daughter and we're now hooked and love the club'. 'We fundraise for season tickets for local charities we work with so people can use them, and that was the idea initially. But then we opened it out to Jags fans who are struggling with the cost of living; people who in years gone by would come to Firhill, but who are maybe finding it a bit tough financially and can only come to one or two games a year. 'If you're struggling to come to games, just email us and you'll get a ticket no questions asked. You don't have to prove anything, we just take you at your word. So we had quite a few people last season and the year before getting tickets because of that. 'We're doing that again this year. We will give tickets to some local charities that support refugees, low-income families and people experiencing homelessness in north west Glasgow, as well as Jags fans who are struggling a bit financially. You can contact us and we'll help you out with a ticket, provided there are enough to go around.' Advertisement Jags For Good work alongside a variety of charities based in the north east of Glasgow, aiding people from all walks of life in an attempt to make Firhill as welcoming and inclusive as they possibly can. As has been the case in previous years, the club will match the final sum raised by supporters and donations are welcome until the end of July. Cowan said: 'We've distributed tickets to loads of different charities: the Partick Thistle Charitable Trust, who do amazing work; Maryhill Integration Network, who mostly work with asylum seekers and refugees in Maryhill; Includem, a charity who work with families; there's a charity that work with low-income families; there's one who work with people with drug and alcohol addictions – all sorts of charities. 'When the tickets go to them, they generally go to people who haven't been to see Thistle before. We know that quite a lot of people, for good or for ill, catch the Thistle bug and suffer alongside the rest of us every Saturday! Advertisement 'Season tickets are only valid for league matches so we will be running our fundraiser through July and we'll probably close it around a week-and-a-half before the first home league match [against Greenock Morton on 9 August] so that we have time to collate everything, buy the tickets and then give them out to people. 'The other great thing is, as they have every year, the club are going to match every penny we raise. If we raise five grand, it'll be ten grand's worth of season tickets that are distributed. So if someone donates a tenner, really it's 20 quid. 'It's pretty cool. It's the whole thing about coming along to Firhill – even if we don't win, it makes you feel part of a community and that's really what it's all about. Thistle is a community club and we should be an extension of that community, and we should be as inclusive as possible. This is a relatively small way of making that a reality. 'There is a small group of us, and it is a good wee group of folk who do matchday collections and things like that. We are volunteers doing this in our spare time but I think we all see the value in it. We enjoy it and see the good that it does, and it is also a great thing to be a part of – using Thistle for the greater good.' You can donate to Jags For Good's season ticket fundraiser here.

Partick Thistle star Aidan Fitzpatrick on course to reach career milestone – but plans far bigger achievement with Jags

But the real achievement he wants is to clinch promotion to the Premiership. It's fair to say he's Thistle through and through. And there's further motivation for him for the new Championship campaign in wanting to show his true self as a player — after a brutally self-critical verdict on his performances last term. The 24-year-old said: 'Hopefully I can make it 200 games for Thistle this season, that would mean a lot. 'I said when I notched up a hundred that I was then aiming for the next hundred. 'I've been at this club for such a long time — and I'm always extra proud of anything I achieve with Thistle. 'I've said often that Partick Thistle's probably all I know football wise. 'Yes, I was away at Norwich, but it was for their under-23s and it wasn't the same. I also had a spell at Queen of the South but I had injuries and only played a wee bit. 'So, football-wise, it's been Partick Thistle for as long as I've played. 'Appearance milestones are good, of course. But the BIG aim for me next season is promotion. Partick Thistle and Ayr United fans scrap on residential streets 'I also owe a lot to the fans. 'My performances last year were nowhere near good enough — and. quite rightly so, they were on my back. 'I actually take that as a GOOD thing. They wouldn't be on my back for no reason. 'The main thing is to go and get the promotion we've been looking for the last couple of years.' It emerged last season that Fitzpatrick's mum Michelle Rooney had been diagnosed with cancer and was bravely undergoing both intense chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Thistle fans rallied round the family, which meant the world to Fitzpatrick. But it's a measure of him that he refuses to even use the emotional torment of his mother's predicament as an excuse for performances. He said: 'I get people thinking it, but I don't want to use it as an excuse for the season I had. 'I know for the standards I set for myself, it wasn't good enough. Individually, but nor was it for the team. 4 Fitzpatrick is ready to reach the milestone Credit: Willie Vass 'Now we've got a new season coming up — and we're looking forward to it. 'It was tough last year. "I got to a point where I was actually joking about how bad I was. I'd come off in games thinking 'I'm better than this.' 'I know inside how good I can be. 'I thought my performances did start to improve towards the end of the season. 'Now I feel good and I'm ready for the new season. I'm extremely motivated. 'Maybe I was putting too much pressure on myself, I don't know. All I know is that I'm capable of so much better. 'I'm ready to kick on. 'Mark Wilson's the new boss and I can't speak highly enough of him.' 4 He's a big fan of manager Mark Wilson Credit: Kenny Ramsay Fitzpatrick added: 'On my day I see myself as one of the team's most exciting players. 'I know what I can do, the fans know what I can do. The opposition know what I can do. 'Now it's up to me to go and show it.' Fitzpatrick's also entering the final year of his Firhill deal and he added: 'I'm very aware of that. It's a big year ahead and I intend doing well.' Meanwhile, the Jags new front of jersey sponsors John Kerr and Bert Wright - who own Balmore Industrial Estate-based firm Wrightkerr - are thrilled to be backing their local club. Kerr said: 'It's going to be a very proud moment seeing our company's name on the jerseys for the matches ahead.' Wright said: 'We were five or six years old when we first became aware of Partick Thistle. It's a special club and for us to be jersey sponsors is a dream.' Graham scores as Falkirk win Stirlingshire Cup

New signing Brian Graham scored as Falkirk won the pre-season Stirlingshire Cup with a 3-1 victory over Stenhousemuir. Graham left Partick Thistle to join Falkirk this summer, and manager John McGlynn is convinced Tuesday's display is a sign of things to come. Advertisement "He took the goal very well, that's what he's about," McGlynn said. "There'll be a few more of them to come for sure, especially with the way we play. "That's what he's done all his career, so there's no reason to think otherwise. He'll go and score goals for us as well."
