ITV quiz show stars 'pull out' of new series just weeks before filming

The show made its debut last year becoming the newest addition to ITV's ever-growing game show line-up An ITV quiz show has suffered a significant setback as reports claim that its two celebrity team captains won't be returning for the upcoming series. First introduced last year, Password joined the ranks of ITV's expanding roster of game shows. The programme, which aired during September and October, is hosted by Stephen Mangan and comes from the creative minds behind Britain's Got Talent and QI. ‌ In Password, celebrity team captains collaborate with a member of the public to win a jackpot of £10,000. Each captain knows a secret password which their teammate must deduce from a single-word hint. ‌ Last series featured Daisy May Cooper and Alan Carr as team captains, but now it appears they won't be back for round two. The Sun has quoted a source saying: "Password did brilliantly on its first outing and it's always a shame to make changes, but Alan and Daisy are both incredibly busy and diaries just wouldn't align." The source added: "Something had to give and sadly it was their roles as team captains. But there's an exciting line-up of celebs ready to take part instead, and everyone's confident that the format works without them." Reach PLC has made attempts to contact ITV for a statement regarding the claims. This development follows the news that Daisy and her brother Charlie, who played alongside her in This Country, have withdrawn from participating in the forthcoming series of Celebrity Traitors, reports Wales Online. ‌ Just a few weeks before the cameras were set to roll, it was reported that the two actors had unexpectedly withdrawn. According to the Mirror, Daisy and Charlie made the decision as they didn't want to be separated from their families. Daisy, aged 38, welcomed her baby Benji with partner Anthony Huggins, 45, in June. She also has Pip, six, and Jack, three, from a previous relationship. Charlie, 35, is a father of two children with his wife Leighanne. ‌ In other news, Alan is part of the Celebrity Traitors line-up, joining the likes of Stephen Fry and Jonathan Ross. He's also slated to co-host the new series of Secret Genius alongside Suzie Dent, and has collaborated with Amanda Holden on another TV series, titled Amanda and Alan's Greek Job, for which release dates are yet to be confirmed. Amanda and Alan have previously won over audiences with their other TV series, Amanda and Alan's Italian Job and Amanda and Alan's Spanish Job.

Daisy May Cooper makes shock exit from ITV series before second series

ITV has revealed that Daisy May Cooper will not be returning for the second series of one of their most popular game shows. Hosted by Stephen Mangan, Password sees team captains Daisy and Alan Carr team up with a civilian contestant to win a £10,000 prize. Each captain is given a secret word in the show – the password – which their teammate then has to guess based on a one-word clue. However, according to reports, neither Daisy or Alan will be returning to the gameshow, which comes from the makers of Britain's Got Talent and QI. A source told The Sun: 'Password did brilliantly on its first outing and it's always a shame to make changes, but Alan and Daisy are both incredibly busy and diaries just wouldn't align. 'Something had to give and sadly it was their roles as team captains. 'But there's an exciting line-up of celebs ready to take part instead, and everyone's confident that the format works without them.' This comes after Daisy, along with her This Country co-star and brother Charlie, revealed they would not be featuring in the upcoming Celebrity Traitors. The duo pulled out of the show just weeks before filming, according to the Mirror. It is believed that both actors decided they did not want to be away from their young families. In July last year, it was also revealed that Daisy would not be returning for the next series of Never Mind The Buzzcocks. The 37-year-old This Country star joined as team captain opposite Noel Fielding when Sky brought back the iconic 1990s music quiz in 2021, but she was replaced for the revival's upcoming fourth run. Following its debut on television in September last year, Password was met with mixed reviews from the public. Taking to X during the show to vent their frustrations, viewers pointed out a major flaw in the show's format. Unfortunately for eager participants at home, they were prevented from playing along when the password was announced by a voiceover as the round began. Writing on X, user originalfran blasted: 'Why ask if we can guess the #Password when some guy announces it at the beginning of each round, then you show it on screen??? What's the point in this show if we can't play along at home?' More Trending Queenie_2312 agreed: 'When we filmed the #Password pilot, the password was only shown to the audience and not said out loud, they should of kept that format as you can't play along as an audience member at home when the password is being said out loud'. The reactions weren't all bad, though, as a handful of viewers did warm to the concept. ThisIsMeUK1 said during the launch: 'Been looking forward to this sooooo much!!!' Metro has contacted Daisy and Alan's representatives and ITV for comment. View More » Password is available to watch on ITV and ITVX. Got a story? Popular ITV show sees a huge shake-up as two big name stars QUIT ahead of new series launch

ITV show Password has suffered a huge shake up as two big name stars have quit ahead of the second series launch. The gameshow, hosted by Stephen Managan, sees members of the public have to guess passwords, with the help of celebrity team captains Daisy May Cooper and Alan Carr. But Daisy and Alan are reportedly not returning for the new launch as Stephen will head the show alone, according to The Sun. While the pair made a brilliant duo fronting the programme, it is believed that they are too busy this year to keep the commitment. According to the publication, the second season will see a revolving panel of celebrities instead. A source said: 'Password did brilliantly on its first outing and it's always a shame to make changes, but Alan and Daisy are both incredibly busy and diaries just wouldn't align. 'Something had to give and sadly it was their roles as team captains. 'But there's an exciting line-up of celebs ready to take part instead and everyone's confident that the format works without them.' MailOnline has contacted ITV for a comment. While the show has only aired one season, it has already seen some backlash. ITV viewers furiously slammed the broadcaster's newest gameshow as 'the worst thing on TV' after it's pilot aired. Fans have already spotted a huge blunder with the format of the programme, meaning those at homes are unable to play along. Viewers were puzzled by the fact that the passwords were being announced by a voiceover to those at home, so there seems to be no way of trying to join in and guess yourself. Before the contestants got stuck in, host Stephen explained: 'The game is simple. Get your partner to guess the password before your opponent does. 'You can only give one-word clues. No made up words, no hand gestures, no miming, no running, no ducking, no bombing... If your partner gets the password on the first clue it's worth 6 points, then 5 points for the second clue and so on. 'First team to 25 wins the round, win two rounds and you'll go through to the final where you'll be playing for our £10,000 jackpot.' However, fans were left less than impressed with the concept and took to social media to brutally slate the show after its launch, writing: 'WTAF is this new #Password game show? What a load of old b*******. Juvenile beyond belief. Saturday night prime time everybody.' '#password I mean @ITV must be bloody desperate... this isn't even a 3pm quiz show, why is it on prime time on a Saturday?' 'I love a good quiz BUT Password is the worst thing I have seen on TV for years #Password.' 'How the f*** is this prime time TV? Should be on at 3pm if at all #password' 'I had to keep watching to see if it got any better. It's like an episode of The Apprentice where the contestants had a day to create a tv quiz show with no budget.' Fans were left less than impressed with the concept and took to social media to brutally slate the show after its launch 'Why ask if we can guess the #Password when some guy announces it at the beginning of each round, then you show it on screen??? What's the point in this show if we can't play along at home?' 'Why the hell is it called password.. pathetic #Password.' 'We are just watching people playing a rubbish game. I'm out. #password' 'I'll put my bets on that #password isn't on next week, surely people aren't still watching. It's hardly @1PercentClubITV levels.' 'Cant even play it cos you tell us the answers, s*** #Password' 'Not saying ITV has lost its way, but #password is the lamest thing I have ever seen. How it got commissioned, let alone scheduled for Saturday prime time is beyond me.' But, fans are in luck as the disappointment comes just before two beloved ITV quiz shows will finally be returning to ITV after a long-running break. Bosses have announced that both Tipping Point: Lucky Stars and Family Fortunes will be making a comeback, much to the delight of viewers. And fans don't have long to wait as the celebrity spin off of Tipping Point is set to kick off on September 8 at 7pm on ITV1. Meanwhile Family Fortunes will be soon making a come back for its fourth series in early 2025, after it was originally pulled from screens in 2002 - but it won't be hosted by the show's original presenter, Les Dennis.
