Cork City claim first clean sheet of season in St Pat's stalemate

Premier Division: Cork City 0 St Patrick's Athletic 0 It took 22 attempts, but Cork City finally secured a long-awaited first clean sheet of the season in a scoreless draw against St Pat's. It proved another acrimonious night in front of 2,276 fans at Turner's Cross, but Bohemians lifted the mood by swiping a late draw from Sligo Rovers. While they sit rooted to the foot of the table, the Leesiders remain four points adrift of Rovers, rather than six. If it proves to be Tein Troost's final game as City keeper, he at least signed off with a first shut-out. However, for two teams desperately in need of a victory, this was a disappointing draw. City's winless streak extended to 11 games. They haven't beaten Pat's in 16 attempts, dating back to May 2018. Meanwhile, Pat's haven't won in their last five outings as they remain sixth. Indeed, Stephen Kenny's men have netted just once in that stretch. The best chance fell to Kitt Nelson on the stroke of half-time, who steered over the bar. City had the better of the second half, but couldn't capitalise. Ger Nash called for unity in his pre-match programme notes after the supporter unrest that mired their Drogheda United draw. But play was briefly paused midway through the first half as objects were thrown from the Shed End amid a plume of black smoke. Fans chanted in opposition to the club ownership as a banner was unfurled: 'Sold the dream, living a nightmare'. Striker Djenairo Daniels helped to clear the debris as he remonstrated with supporters. The City squad will look quite different once the summer transfer window opens on Tuesday. Reports have indicated that goalkeeper Troost and Rio Shipston won't extend their loan deals. Top-scorer Daniels dropped to the bench as his future looks to lie elsewhere. Premier League-linked Cathal O'Sullivan remained among the subs for the second consecutive game. However, Preston North End recruit Nelson has extended his loan deal to the end of the season. In addition, Fiacre Kelleher, Rory Feely, and Charlie Lutz will join on July 1st. Kenny backed up his positive impression of Pat's defeat to Derry City by retaining the same team. City started the better. Seán Hoare came up with a vital intervention to prevent a Seani Maguire chance after good work by Greg Bolger and Milan Mbeng. Seán Murray had four first-half efforts, including a couple of set-piece headers. None found the target. For all their possession, Pat's didn't threaten until the midway point. Mason Melia flashed a header over from Brandon Kavanagh's free-kick. Then, Zack Elbouzedi drove across the box to curl a left-footed effort inches past the post. The winger couldn't sort his feet out for another major opening as Simon Power limped off. The best chance fell for City just before the break. From a defensive throw-in, Maguire outmuscled Kavanagh and squared for Nelson. The loanee couldn't believe his finish as he fired over. A bright start to the second half lifted the home crowd. But the final pass kept letting City down. Nash called on Daniels and O'Sullivan to break the stalemate. They led the press as City began to squeeze Pat's. Hoare came up with another vital clearance from Maguire's driven ball. Then, from a dangerous free-kick, Bolger knocked the ball past Joseph Anang only for Maguire's effort to be blocked by Axel Sjoberg and scrambled to safety. In an anxious finish, Troost came up with a fingertip save to deny Kavanagh, while Aidan Keena rifled over. At the other end, O'Sullivan's flick flew too high. CORK CITY: Troost; Crowley, Anderson, Lyons; Mbeng, S Murray (McLaughlin 65), Bolger (Shipston 74), Kiernan (Fitzpatrick 74); Nolan (Daniels 57), Nelson (O'Sullivan 57); Maguire. ST PAT'S: Anang; Sjoberg, Redmond, Hoare, McClelland; Lennon, Baggley (Leavy 75); Elbouzedi (Forrester 75), Kavanagh, Power (Mulraney 35); Melia (Keena 67). Referee: M Lynch (Galway).

A New Dessert Shop Is Bringing Thai-Style Soy Milk to Portland

Thai food is ubiquitous throughout Portland, but few area Thai restaurants dare to offer desserts beyond mango and sticky rice. Pat and Art Tantipattanawong are filling a sweet void in the city's Thai scene with Nam Tao Huu, which just became the first Thai dessert shop in Portland. Intriguingly, the business centers on just one of many facets of Thailand's sweets culture: soy milk. 'Nam Tao Huu' translates to soy milk, a beverage that merges breakfast with dessert in Thai culture. Street stalls in Thailand sell creamy versions of it in the mornings; soy milk can be customized with sweeteners like palm sugar and simple syrup and toppings like ginkgo seeds and grass jelly. It's typically served alongside patongo (Chinese donuts). This aspect of Thai desserts is influenced by Chinese immigrants, explains Pat. They can be credited for introducing soy-influenced treats like tofu puddings and slushies to Thailand. Pat loved drinking soy milk as a child in Thailand, and these memories stayed with her through her time in Portland's restaurant world. She worked at Red Onion before opening Tara Thai just down the street from Nam Tao Huu, which is in the former Blue Star Donuts building. 'I grew up with Chinese culture, and we drank it as a protein milk in the morning,' she recalls. 'When you go to morning markets in Thailand, you see them everywhere. Everyone has it. My family served me that almost every day before school.' Pat and Art have a commercial soy milk machine, which they will use to make soy milk for creamy treats like slushies and tofu pudding sweetened with fresh berries and ginger syrup. You can also order plain soy milk, accompanied, if you like, by sweet and salty airy Chinese donuts — dunkable in condensed milk or pandan custard. Another popular Thai dessert on their menu is pillowy toasted milk bread served with the same condiment options. Silken tofu puddings and slushies can come with toppings like ginkgo seeds, grass jelly, and Job's tears, which lend a light chew. The emphasis is on the texture of these toppings rather than their sweetness. There's also an extensive drink menu of familiar items like Thai tea, Milos, and matchas infused with the soy milk. Patrons new to East Asian drink culture may also want to try the longan and jujube iced teas, options that introduce more textural elements to these refreshing beverages. The Tantipattanawongs chose soy milk because they wanted to offer something not too dissimilar from boba drinks — which everyone knows — but which is generally healthier since it has less sugar. 'Nowadays, there are healthy trends in Portland, and lots of vegan, gluten-free, and lactose-free people,' says Pat. '[With Nam Tao Huu], those customers can have these kinds of drinks too.' Nam Tao Huu is now open at 921 NW 23rd Avenue. See More: Portland Restaurant News Portland Restaurant Openings

I feel overwhelming sadness for Oisin Murphy – and there's only one person who can truly help him

A tragic tale from the past reminds me what needs to be done MATT CHAPMAN I feel overwhelming sadness for Oisin Murphy – and there's only one person who can truly help him Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) OISIN MURPHY is up in court next week. Some of you won't be surprised, some of you won't care and some of you will think he deserves everything he gets. It was on Thursday when news broke Murphy must appear at Reading Magistrates' Court charged with one count of driving a car while over the prescribed limit of alcohol, and one count of failing to co-operate with a test at the roadside. Shortly afterwards, many on my social media demanded I should speak out against Murphy, someone whose ability I have always respected. Unlike those on social media, I never feel I'm in a position to hammer those who struggle in life. I'm just not that perfect myself, and it always surprises me how many appear to live such perfect lives that they can annihilate others so easily. Of course, there is a difference between right and wrong, and, at the time of his car accident, Murphy had a female passenger in his vehicle. The Thames Valley Police appeal for witnesses after the crash said the girl suffered 'serious injuries' but I know no more details and nothing about her recovery, or if she was seriously injured at all. I also don't know how Murphy will plead next Thursday. Some say he could even be looking at a prison sentence. Personally, I don't see how that would help him or society at all, but that's just my opinion and others will differ. What I do know is — as I have said — I feel an overwhelming sadness for Murphy. I felt the same after the death of Pat Eddery. His passing had a real effect on me, as I knew Pat well. Pat had drink issues but, in many ways, it appeared to me some encouraged Pat to turn to booze rather than try to stop him. I will always believe more could have been done but, ultimately, Pat himself needed to change. It's the same with Murphy. 2 Gone but never forgotten... my good mate Pat Eddery Credit: PA:Press Association On a racehorse he's magical and makes a difference. He is on another level to most riders. But off a racehorse, Murphy has clearly struggled over many years. The people who know him, both personally and professionally, have to look at each other and wonder what more we can do to help. Yes… help. Murphy needs more of it. Some would counter that he's had many chances already, and there is no doubting he has. But demons are demons. I have mine, you have yours. More can always be done to help another human being rid themselves of theirs. OK, now onto Saturday's racing. The Northumberland Plate takes some sorting out — and Willie Mullins' unexposed runner Pappano adds to the intrigue. Andrew Balding's Who's Glen has been backed and will go well. James Owen has the terrier East India Dock as well as Charging Thunder and interesting roughies Lavender Hill Mob and Shajack. Yet the one who interests me is ZANNDABAD (3.15, Newcastle) for Tony Martin. My fancy doesn't have a great draw but will surely be dropped out for a late run under Jim Crowley. On the Flat he was sixth in the 2024 Ascot Stakes — where he didn't get the 2m4f — off 94. He was also sixth in the Irish Cesarewitch later that season off the same mark, where he was never placed to challenge but kept on nicely. A mark of 93 for this race is more than workable. Elsewhere at Newcastle all eyes will be on Group 1 victor Kind Of Blue in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes over 6f. Kind Of Blue is the class act but he also makes the market interesting for an each-way poke. I'll give ALYANAABI another chance as I think he's been crying out for this trip and it's the first time he has gone the distance since his racecourse debut, which he won well. He returned this term over 7f at Haydock and made most of the running to win, but he then flopped at the same track last time. Hard to predict but a place chance for Crowley again but this time for Owen Burrows. Like Zannadabd, Alyanaabi has never run on artificial before. Good luck all… and Yeeehaaa! 'It's sad': Tyreek Hill's bold Dolphins claim stuns fans as ex-Chiefs star eyes emotional AFC clash

Tyreek Hill isn't just chasing another ring—he's chasing closure. The Miami Dolphins star, once the heart of Kansas City's electric offense, now has a new target in sight: his former team. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now With emotions running high and ambitions even higher, Hill has his sights set on an AFC title showdown that would pit him against the very franchise he helped build. From Super Bowl highs to Dolphins dreams: Hill reflects on Chiefs exit In a recent appearance on Johnny Manziel's YouTube channel, Hill gave fans a raw look into how he views the Chiefs' success in his absence. Despite Kansas City continuing to dominate, Hill didn't shy away from revealing the sting that comes with watching it from afar. 'As a fan it's great, but as a player who's been there, it's sad,' Hill admitted. 'It's like damn, them my boys, I had a chance to be there with them boys, but just watching Pat and his growth, watching Andy and how those guys roll over there, it's a beautiful thing to see.' Hill, a 2016 fifth-round pick, was central to Kansas City's rise, contributing six elite seasons and helping secure a Super Bowl title in 2019. But his 2022 trade to Miami launched a new era—one where he's now the face of a fast, aggressive offense built around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Hill crowns Tua No.1, dares Chiefs to meet Dolphins in AFC showdown While Manziel floated the idea of another Chiefs Super Bowl run, Hill pushed back with full conviction. 'My Miami Dolphins taking the AFC bro, don't doubt it bro,' he responded. And if it comes down to Miami vs Kansas City? 'We all know Tua is the best quarterback in the NFL,' Hill said. 'It'll be a great thing dawg, playing against [my] former team, Andy, Pat, and the guys, Kelce, it'll be great. I don't know. It would be a very emotional game for me.' Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Also read: Despite Vegas odds favoring the Chiefs (+350) over Miami (+3500), Hill's belief hasn't wavered. As he enters his third season in Miami, he's still one of the league's most explosive threats—and he's ready to prove it, especially if it means toppling the dynasty he once called home.
