Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade
Eagles Should Target Steelers Tight End After Blockbuster Trade originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Philadelphia Eagles already have a star on their roster at the tight end position. Dallas Goedert signed a restructured contract to remain with the organization this offseason. In his seven years with the team, he's caught 349 passes for over 4,000 yards and 24 touchdowns. Advertisement However, as good as the South Dakota State product has been throughout his career, there is a big reason why his future in Philly was so clouded this offseason. He has missed 15 games in the last three seasons because of several injuries. At 30 years old, legitimate questions surround whether Goedert can be the same dependable receiving option for the Eagles in 2025. With limited options currently on the roster, there aren't many other avenues for the team to trust if their star tight end gets hurt again. Until now. With the Pittsburgh Steelers acquiring former Miami Dolphins tight end Jonnu Smith in a blockbuster deal that included All-Pro defensive backs Jalen Ramsey (to Pittsburgh) and Minkah Fitzpatrick (to Miami), the Black and Gold have added clear competition for their standout tight end. Advertisement Pat Freiermuth is 26 and coming off a respectable 65-catch season for the Steelers. While he has never made a Pro Bowl like Smith has, seeing the organization seemingly acquire a player at Freiermuth's position is eye-opening. It could also mean that the Steelers are looking to find a way to move their former second-round pick Freiermuth Freiermuth could be an excellent addition to the Eagles' roster this season. Eventually, they need to find a player they can trust to replace Goedert after 2025. The Penn State product may be the perfect match for that role. Ex Steelers Rival Reveals Honest Take on George Pickens Skipping Out on Youth Camp
Ex Steelers Rival Reveals Honest Take on George Pickens Skipping Out on Youth Camp originally appeared on Athlon Sports. After the Pittsburgh Steelers traded wideout George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys, a local area youth football camp reached out to him to confirm he was still good to attend this summer. Advertisement He answered affirmatively. Then, he later backed out of the camp appearance, ruffling a lot of feathers in the Pittsburgh area. On The Nightcap podcast, former Cincinnati Bengals wideout T.J. Houshmandzadeh had some harsh words for the former Steeler. "He just don't give a damn," he said, "His representatives were like, 'Hey you need to do this.' He probably was like, 'No, I ain't doing it. I don't care. I ain't doing it. I don't care what you say. I'm not doing this. I think it's unfortunate because he's probably going to take a hit in his reputation. I don't think he gives a damn. But those kids, that's the part of it. They just going to be disappointed." Advertisement Thankfully for the youth football camp organizers, Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth was reportedly able to attend in Pickens' absence. But it doesn't take away from the fact that Pickens went back on his word after committing twice to the event. The Steelers traded for Seattle Seahawks receiver D.K. Metcalf earlier in the offseason, making Pickens expendable in their eyes. Pickens' time in Pittsburgh was not without issues, stemming from arguments with teammates to multiple suspensions. Now, he's in Dallas, where he hopes to rejuvenate his career and start over. Pat Freiermuth steps up when former Steelers teammate George Pickens bails on youth football camp
If you needed another reason to root for Pittsburgh Steelers tight end, this is it. Former Steelers wide receiver George Pickens had committed to his youth football camp in Pittsburgh. This is fairly common as players run these camps all the time. But Pickens decided at the last minute to back out, leaving the camp without a Steelers presence. But Freiermuth didn't let Pickens bail without coming in and saving the day. Freiermuth didn't have to do it and it wasn't his camp but he still stepped up and replaced Pickens, saving the camp and the experience for the kids. Advertisement Pickens was traded from the Steelers to the Dallas Cowboys just after the 2025 NFL draft, which we presume prompted Pickens to decide those kids weren't important enough to make the trip back. Pickens' potential for immaturity and pettiness seems to know no limits, and this is just the latest example. Pickens came into the league with significant character concerns and, after showing no real growth, was traded away. Meanwhile Freiermuth saved the day for those kids and proved once again why he's maybe the most underrated player on the team. Pickens backed out just days before the event. TruEdge Sports, the group organizing the camp, said they were notified at the last minute that Pickens no longer wanted to do it. Fans slam 'selfish' NFL star George Pickens for bailing on promise to children at the last minute: 'Zero class'
Former Steelers star George Pickens has sparked outrage after cancelling a scheduled visit to a children's football camp in Pittsburgh at the very last minute. Pickens, who was traded to the Dallas Cowboys back in May, had arranged the appearance through youth camp organizers TruEdge Sports before his Pittsburgh exit earlier this year. TruEdge Sports claim to have reached out to his management after the trade, only to be reassured that he would still 'honor his commitment to the event' on June 28 at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh's Station Square despite his move to Dallas. However, the company has now informed parents who bought tickets for their kids that the wide receiver is no longer attending after dropping out three days before the event. 'As many of you know, George Pickens was traded to the Dallas Cowboys on May 7,' TruEdge Sports wrote in an email to ticket holders. 'Immediately following the trade, our team contacted George's representation to confirm whether he would still honor his commitment to the Pittsburgh event. We were promptly assured that George remained committed to the camp and intended to show up for the families who had registered. Based on that confirmation, we communicated this directly to you via email and text on May 9. WOW! 🤯🤯🤯 George Pickens bailed on his sold-out youth camp at Highmark Stadium. Said he'd go after the trade — then backed out. But last minute Pat Freiermuth stepped up. Wasn't his camp or his job — but he showed up anyway. That's a Steeler #NFL #Steelers — The Standard (@TheStandard412) June 25, 2025 'Unfortunately, as of last week, TruEdge was notified by George's team that he has decided to walk back on his word and is no longer interested in attending the camp. Let us be very clear: we are deeply frustrated by this decision and the position it has placed all of us in.' The group then took a furious swipe at Pickens for letting children who are set to attend the event down just days before, having been offered the chance to back out months ago. 'Our team at TruEdge was fully prepared to host a camp this Saturday because we were led to believe George would follow through on his commitment. His sudden decision to back out not only reflects a disappointing lack of accountability, but also shows a disregard for the families and children who were excited to meet him,' the email continued. 'We are incredibly disappointed by his actions and his actions do not express the goals or motives of TruEdge Sports.' Fans have also hit out at the 24-year-old on social media, branding him 'selfish' and 'immature' for pulling out of the youth camp at the last minute. One user commented on X: 'What a jerk.' Another put: 'Guy has zero class'. 'I get that George may be upset with the team, but its no excuse to back out on the kids like that,' said a third. 'Those are people who look up to him.' 'For those of you who still defend George Pickens and miss him in Pittsburgh, read this. This shows how selfish and immature he truly is,' wrote a fourth. While one simply posted: 'I'm not surprised by this one bit'. In Pickens' place, Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth will now be stepping up and making an appearance at the event on Saturday. TruEdge Sports have offered refunds to fans who purchased tickets in the hope of Pickens being there. The former Georgia star spent three seasons in Pittsburgh before being traded to Dallas in May. After being picked by the Steelers in the second round of the 2022 draft, he is now in the final season of his rookie contract. Pickens had 59 catches for 900 yards and three touchdowns under Mike Tomlin last season, while he also registered at least 50 receptions, 800 yards and three touchdowns in each of his three seasons with Pittsburgh.
