Patanjali Yogpeeth celebrates Guru Purnima with devotion; Swami Ramdev serves devotees during Kanwar Mela
The sacred occasion of Guru Purnima— a day that celebrates the timeless Guru-Shishya (teacher-disciple) tradition in Hinduism— was observed with deep devotion at Patanjali Yogpeeth in Haridwar today (July 10, 2025). The celebrations took place at the Yoga Bhavan Auditorium of Patanjali Wellness (Yogpeeth-2), under the spiritual guidance of Swami Ramdev Maharaj, founder-president of Patanjali Yogpeeth, and Acharya Balkrishna Maharaj, its general secretary. Guru Purnima holds immense significance in Indian culture. It is the day when devotees honour their spiritual teachers (gurus), who guide them on the path of truth, self-realisation, and liberation. Celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Ashadha, this festival also commemorates the birth anniversary of the sage Vyasa, the author of the 'Mahabharata' and compiler of the Vedas. During the event, Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna exchanged garlands as a mark of mutual respect and extended Guru Purnima wishes to all attendees. The atmosphere was filled with reverence, spiritual energy, and heartfelt gratitude toward the Guru principle that uplifts and enlightens. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Descoperă BMW X5 Legacy Limited Edition. He reminded the audience of India's rich legacy— the Guru-Shishya parampara, the ancient Rishi traditions, and the spiritual wisdom of the Vedas. Within these traditions, he said, lies not only spiritual depth but also a profound sense of national identity and unity. Speaking to students of Patanjali University, Swami Ramdev urged them to live with Rishitva (sagehood) and Devatva (divinity). 'Only when we embody these qualities can we bring about a true revolution in the world—one rooted in truth, yoga, spirituality, and justice, rather than power or material dominance,' he said. Swami Ramdev also voiced concern over the modern world being plagued by ideological extremism, materialism, and intellectual and socio-political exploitation. He expressed hope that India, with its spiritual and cultural strength, would lead the world in various domains and emerge as Vishwaguru—the spiritual guide of the world. Acharya Balkrishna Maharaj echoed similar sentiments. He stated that Guru Purnima has meaning only when disciples follow their Guru's path with complete faith and discipline. He urged people to adopt the teachings of their Guru in everyday life and walk the path of righteousness (Dharma). According to him, it is through India's age-old traditions—like Yoga, Ayurveda , Sanatan Dharma, and Vedic knowledge—that the nation will rise as a global beacon. He also encouraged everyone to seek guidance from a noble Guru or saint whose wisdom can lead to spiritual and personal growth. N.P. Singh, Executive Chairman of the Bharatiya Shiksha Board, praised the divine energy of the event. Offering his salutations to Sanatan Dharma, he highlighted how the Patanjali movement is igniting a holistic transformation in the field of education, under the blessings of Swami Ramdev and Acharya Balkrishna. As part of the ongoing Kanwar Mela— another significant Hindu pilgrimage in the month of Shravan— Patanjali Yogpeeth also organised an Akhand Bhandara (continuous community kitchen) for Shiva devotees (Kanwariyas). Thousands of pilgrims walking with Ganga water were served food with love and humility. Swami Ramdev personally took part in the food distribution, exemplifying the spirit of seva (selfless service). The event saw active participation from spiritual leaders, department heads, volunteers, students, and officials associated with Patanjali Yogpeeth. Baba Ramdev's visit to Horsley Hills triggers strong opposition
Yoga guru Baba Ramdev's proposed plan for yoga and naturopathy initiatives at Horsley Hills near Madanapalle of Annamayya district triggered a strong opposition from various sectors of the society. Local leaders from the Communist Party of India (CPI), Congress Party, and public groups staged protests on Monday and demanded that the State government withdraw its 'reported plans to hand over Horsely Hills' to Baba Ramdev and his team in the name of a wellness centre. The yoga guru had visited the Horsley Hills on June 27, along with a team from Patanjali Yogpeeth, reportedly to explore the feasibility of establishing a global yoga and wellness centre. According to a senior official who accompanied the team, Ramdev inspected a piece of land close to a government guest house and expressed his plans to commission yoga and naturopathy initiatives there. He was also reportedly impressed with the serene landscape, clean air, and cool weather, terming them 'ideal for spiritual healing'. The yoga guru's visit to the State close on the heels of the recently-concluded month-long Yogandhra-2025 campaign, which culminated in Visakhapatnam on June 21 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has also raised doubts about the TDP-led government's plans. A team led by the CPI Annamayya district unit visited the hill station to take stock of the situation on Monday (June 30). Speaking to the media, CPI State Secretariat Member Gujjala Eeswaraiah said that the allocation of public and forest land to a private organisation would amount to clear violation of the laws of environment protection. 'This could lead to deforestation, threaten wildlife habitats, and lead to the evacuation of the local tribal communities from atop the hills and foothills,' he said, adding that the issue would be elaborately discussed in the ensuing Annamayya district CPI Mahasabhalu scheduled in Madanapalle on August 11 and 12. In order to protect the fragile ecosystem of the Horsley Hills and its vibrancy as a popular tourism destination, the CPI also launched 'One Lakh Signatures Campaign' to stall the move in favour of Baba Ramdev.
