Male infertility: 5 lifestyle factors that could be hurting your fertility

Medical experts are drawing attention to an often-overlooked aspect of reproductive health during World Infertility Awareness Month: male infertility. While discussions often center on female infertility, about one-third of infertility cases are related to male factors, according to ABC News medical contributor Dr. Alok Patel. "When we think about fertility, there's a lot of focus placed on females," says Patel. "But male issues can include problems with sperm volume or quality, congenital obstructions, infections, and various underlying medical conditions." Several common lifestyle factors can significantly impact male reproductive health. Recent research suggests marijuana use may be associated with impaired male fertility by decreasing sperm volume, affecting sperm morphology and disrupting hormone balance. Patel advises limiting cannabis use when trying to conceive. Along with cannabis, alcohol consumption and smoking can be detrimental to fertility. Toxins from smoking, for instance, can directly damage sperm DNA. Physical health plays a crucial role too -- being overweight and having inadequate physical activity can negatively impact fertility. Even high stress levels can affect reproductive health, making stress management an essential consideration. "If you're trying to improve fertility, focus on eating a regular diet, exercising, managing stress, and reducing both cannabis and alcohol use," Patel recommended. "It's also important to have an open conversation with your doctor, especially if you're using substances for medical reasons." Speaking of health management, recent studies have revealed promising developments in other areas of medical science. Research has shown that medications prescribed for individuals with ADHS were associated with lower risks of self-harm and accidents, demonstrating the importance of proper medical treatment in overall safety and well-being. Additionally, for those looking to boost their cognitive function, a new study suggests that strategic power naps might be the answer. German researchers found that short afternoon naps were associated with enhanced problem-solving abilities and creativity -- though Patel advises keeping these naps to 20 to 30 minutes to avoid disrupting nighttime sleep patterns.

Gujarat man held in New York for cheating elderly woman out of $80k

Ahmedabad: A 25-year-old man from Gujarat, Abhishek Patel, was arrested in Geneva, New York, on June 24 for allegedly duping an elderly resident in a telephone scam. Patel, originally from North Gujarat and now residing in Kingston, Pennsylvania, is accused of impersonating a Federal Trade Commission officer and extracting around $80,000 from the victim in two separate transactions earlier in June. According to the City of Geneva police department, Patel contacted the elderly woman over the phone and convinced her that she owed money to federal authorities. He allegedly persuaded her to hand over cash in person. On the second occasion, police set up a traffic stop and took Patel into custody soon after he visited the victim's house and collected more money. Police suspect that Patel conducted similar scams in other parts of New York state. He was booked for grand larceny in the second degree, a Class C felony, and was sent to the Ontario County jail. Patel was later released on his own recognizance and is expected to appear in court at a future date. In April, two youths from Mehsana were caught in Texas while acting as cash mules after elderly victims were manipulated through fake Internal Revenue Service calls.

Florida man indicted for '86' posts threatening to kill Alina Habba

Print Close By Brooke Singman Published June 27, 2025 FIRST ON FOX: A Florida man was indicted Friday for allegedly threatening to kill Alina Habba in a series of online "86" posts against the interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey, Fox News Digital has learned. "86" has been interpreted by law enforcement officials to mean "get rid of." Gregory W. Kehoe, the Interim U.S. attorney for the Middle District of Florida, announced the charges Friday. According to the indictment reviewed by Fox News Digital, Salvatore Russotto, in May, made a threat to "injure and kill the victim in a series of online posts." FBI DIRECTOR PATEL SAYS HE'S HAD TO DIVERT RESOURCES TO INVESTIGATE 'COPYCATS' OF COMEY '86 47' POST Fox News Digital has learned that the victim referred to in the indictment is Habba, the interim U.S. attorney for New Jersey who previously served as counselor to President Donald Trump. "[VICTIM] is a c***," Russotto posted. "86 that b****." He also allegedly posted: "A slow painful death for [VICTIM]. 86 that c***." Russotto also allegedly posted: "Eliminate [VICTIM]. 86 Traitor. Death penalty for all traitors." Russotto was charged with transmission of an interstate threat to injure and retaliating against a federal law enforcement officer by threat. "This is yet another disturbing example of a dangerous copycat inspired by the reckless behavior of former officials, targeting those who serve our country and threatening the very people working to keep America safe," FBI Director Kash Patel told Fox News Digital. "Our FBI will not tolerate political violence in any form." Patel added: "I'm grateful to our law enforcement partners in Florida for their swift action and steadfast commitment to justice." The indictment comes after Patel said that he has been forced to divert agents to investigate "copycats" of potential threats to Trump as a result of former FBI Director James Comey's "86 47" social media post last month. FORMER FBI DIRECTOR JAMES COMEY MEETS WITH SECRET SERVICE AFTER CONTROVERSIAL '86 47' POST "Do you know how many agents I've had to take offline from chasing down child sex predators, fentanyl traffickers, terrorists because everywhere across this country, people are popping up on social media and think that a threat to the life of the president of the United States is a joke and they can do it because he did it?" Patel said last month. "That's what I'm having to deal with every single day, and that's what I'm having to pull my agents and analysts off because he thought it was funny to go out there and make a political statement," he continued. An FBI official told Fox News Digital that they cannot disclose the number of "copycat" incidents due to ongoing investigations but described the number to Fox News Digital as "significant." Comey met with Secret Service officials in Washington this month for an interview about his "86 47" Instagram post, two sources briefed on the meeting told Fox News. Comey is under investigation for the now-deleted Instagram post that showed seashells arranged on a beach to read "86 47." "Cool shell formation on my beach walk," he wrote along with the post. Comey offered an explanation for the post after he received backlash on social media. "I posted earlier a picture of some shells I saw today on a beach walk, which I assumed were a political message," the subsequent post from Comey said. "I didn't realize some folks associate those numbers with violence. It never occurred to me but I oppose violence of any kind so I took the post down." A child knows what that meant," Trump told Baier. "If you're the FBI director, and you don't know what that meant, that meant 'assassination,' and it says it loud and clear." Print Close URL
