Man United's newest star vows to fight for first-team spot - as he promises to 'KILL IT' in pre-season training and impress Ruben Amorim

Manchester United 's new signing Diego Leon has vowed to fight for a first-team place when he joins the club for pre-season training. The teenage left back from Paraguay is due to land in Manchester this week after United agreed a deal worth up to £7million with his club Cerro Porteno, and is determined to force his way into Ruben Amorim 's side rather than going out on loan. 'I'm really happy, I think every player dreams of this,' Leon told Paraguayan media. 'When you're a professional, you have to adapt quickly, it is a massive opportunity. 'Everyone thinks I'll go out on loan, but I don't have that mindset. I'm going to kill it in pre-season and within one or two games, I'll already be playing with them.' United's players are due to report back for pre-season training at Carrington on Monday. After two weeks of fitness work, United face Leeds in Stockholm on July 19 before going on tour to the US where they play West Ham, Bournemouth and Everton in the Premier League Summer Series. The final game is against Fiorentina at Old Trafford on August 9. It's expected that Amorim and his coaching staff will monitor Leon in pre-season before deciding whether to include him in the first-team squad or send him out on loan. The teenager will be up against Patrick Dorgu and Harry Amass for the left wing back position in Amorim's 3-4-3 system. Luke Shaw also recovered from a long-term hamstring injury before the end of last season but was used predominantly as a left-sided centre-back. In January, United and Cerro Porteno agreed a fee of £3.3m which could rise to £7m with add-ons, but the deal could not be completed until Leon turned 18 in April and travelled to Manchester to undergo a medical. The player, who is understood to have a thrown a farewell party for family and friends in Paraguay at the weekend, has agreed a five-year contract with the option of another year.

Man Utd's bitter rivals want £30m star despite Old Trafford 'dream'

Manchester United signed Patrick Dorgu from Lecce during the winter window and one of the Danish international's former team-mates has spoken about his love for the club Lecce star Nikola Krstovic spoke earlier this season about his dream of a move to Manchester United. Instead, though, it's another Premier League team who want the Montenegro international. Krstovic top-scored for Lecce last season as they narrowly clung on to their Serie A status. The Giallorossi were able to survive despite a high-profile exit midway through the season, with Patrick Dorgu joining United in a big-money move. ‌ It looks as though the striker won't be joining his old team-mate at Old Trafford, though. Instead, it's Leeds United readying a move for the £30m-rated star. ‌ According to Corriere dello Sport (via Sport Witness), Leeds have an agreement in principle to sign Krstovic - potentially for substantially less than Lecce's £30m asking price. However, they have yet to agree personal terms. Sport Witness has also resurfaced comments from the 25-year-old from back in September. Back then, he discussed his next steps while making reference to compatriot Mirko Vucinic, who had spells at Roma and Juventus after leaving Lecce. 'After the match against Torino he (Mirko Vucinic) told me 'think about the next one'. Where would I never play? In Bari. My dream is Manchester United,' Krstovic is quoted as saying. 'It's only the second year here in Lecce. I am very happy, both me and my family. We have friends and we're enjoying it, so let's think about the present.' If Leeds are able to land Krstovic, he would be the second new arrival from Serie A after Jaka Bijol. Slovenia defender Bijol has joined on a long-term deal from Udinese as Daniel Farke's side prepare for a Premier League return, with the Whites also adding Lukas Nmecha to their ranks this summer. ‌ 'I work for it and that's why I'm here, because it's a big challenge for everyone," Bijol told club media. "It's a big challenge for me, for the club, and we're getting ready for it together. I think the club and myself are ready for the Premier League. 'I can promise that I will give everything, that I will give everything in every training as well to be ready for the first game of the season and then just go from there.' The reigning Championship winners have also offloaded Rasmus Kristiansen and Joshua Guilavogui this summer. Guilavogui is a free agent after his short-term deal ended, while Kristiansen has made a permanent move to Eintracht Frankfurt after a successful loan.

Diego Leon could be loaned out this summer after Ruben Amorim assesses him in pre-season

Diego Leon could be loaned out this summer after Ruben Amorim assesses him in pre-season Manchester United are set to welcome Diego Leon to the club on July 1 after agreeing a deal for the fullback back in January. But his immediate future could lie away from Old Trafford if Manchester World are to be believed, who have claimed that the Paraguayan might be loaned out in the same window. Advertisement United's initial plan is to assess what the Cerro Porteño starlet is capable of, with Ruben Amorim primed to pick him for the pre-season games as well as the Summer Series in the United States. With Harry Amass and Patrick Dorgu ahead of the 18-year-old in the pecking order, going out on loan to another INEOS-owned club like FC Lausanne Sport has not been ruled out. Diego Leon could be loaned out 'Manchester United will take a look at Diego Leon during their summer schedule before a final decision is made on his immediate future. 'The 18-year-old will likely feature in their first pre-season friendly fixtures and could even be named in the squad that travels to the United States for the Premier League Summer Series. Advertisement 'A summer loan exit has not been entirely ruled out, though club sources have reiterated the teenager will need time to adapt in his new surroundings.' The Paraguay U20 international is in the same boat Sekou Kone found himself in, when he joined last summer from Guidars FC. Staying with the Academy would be a huge help The Malian was kept in the reserves, where he played regularly and impressed as the all-action defensive midfielder as well as in an advanced role, while also training with the first-team off and on. He will leave on loan to Lausanne this summer. And like Kone, it would be best if Diego Leon also spends time in the Academy in his first season, learning the language and getting acclimatized to his new surroundings. Advertisement Leon was signed for an initial fee in the region of £3.2 million, with add-ons potentially taking the total tally to as much as £7 million. Under INEOS, United have been increasingly focusing on academy recruitment with the South American market once again of interest to the club. In a change from last season the iconic Adidas stripes on the arms are black instead of white, as are the cuffs of the sleeves. For some the shirt is strikingly similar to last season, although the 2023/24 kit is perhaps a better comparison given that also bore black stripes. Adidas state the "home kits are crafted with the best of sporting technology, with AEROREADY materials that leave you feeling cool, dry, and comfortable on matchday, whether you're on the pitch or in the stands".
