Business Rundown: Muted Markets Await Iranian Response
After the United States struck three Iranian nuclear sites over the weekend, many expected volatility in the markets. But, as of 10 AM ET Monday morning, the major stock indexes and oil prices appear to not be shifting dramatically–suggesting that investors may not react until Tehran does. FOX Business co-anchor Taylor Riggs speaks with AIER economist Paul Mueller to break down how the unfolding situation in the Middle East stands to impact the U.S. markets and prices. Veterans' grave markers raised and restored in Cheektowaga
CHEEKTOWAGA, N.Y. (WIVB) — A grassroots restoration effort was underway Sunday at Mount Calvary Cemetery in Cheektowaga on behalf of fallen veterans. Organizers met at a specific section of the graveyard where over 2,000 veterans are laid to rest to uncover and raise the forgotten markers of the brave men and women who served. Over time the grave markers have been buried beneath the soil and overgrown grass. That's what led Paul Mueller to organize an effort to raise those markers, restoring dignity and visibility to the graves of the fallen soldiers. 'Many of us aren't veterans, so this is our way of giving back to our country and to our veterans,' Mueller said. 'My dad is buried here, and I noticed years ago that these flat stones just kind of slowly disappear into the ground, Mother Nature takes over.' After seeing the neglected state of so many of the veterans' markers, Mueller felt he was called to do something — which ultimately led to the organized effort to make a difference. 'There's a lot of people that don't have a loved one that can come and raise that stone back up, so I got a bunch of volunteers together last year and we raised over 900 of them,' Mueller said. 'So, we figure we're getting close to halfway.' Over a dozen volunteers made their way to the cemetery to help in the effort, including Mitch Mayor, an Army veteran who knows what it takes to serve. 'It just makes me feel good that I'm able, in my very small way, to give back to honor these ladies and gentlemen who served this great country of ours,' Mayor said. Mueller plans to continue the effort until all of the markings are raised and the memories of the fallen who rest there are remembered. 'Our goal this year is actually to finish this,' Mueller said. 'We'll be coming back hopefully one more time and we'll be up to the 2,000 range.'
