Soccer-Porto parting ways with manager Anselmi after early Club World Cup exit

(Reuters) -Porto are moving on from manager Martin Anselmi after their group-stage exit from the Club World Cup, the Portuguese club said late on Tuesday. Porto, who hired the 39-year-old Argentine in January on a two-and-a-half-year contract, finished third behind Palmeiras and Inter Miami with just two points from the games in Group A. "Porto informs that it has started negotiations with coach Martin Anselmi for the termination of the sports employment contract that had been in force since January 2025," Porto said in a statement. Porto finished third in the league last season, nine points behind champions Sporting. (Reporting by Pearl Josephine Nazare in Bengaluru; Editing by Peter Rutherford)

Tennis-Players undergoing fertility procedures to get protected ranking, says WTA

(Reuters) -Female players who choose to undergo a fertility protection procedure will be allowed to take time away from the sport and return to competitive action with a protected ranking, the governing body of women's tennis (WTA) said on Wednesday. The new rule aims to support women athletes to balance their family goals and career ambitions and comes three months after the WTA offered players up to 12 months of paid maternity leave for the first time. "The new rule means that players can now take time away from professional tennis for a fertility protection procedure such as egg or embryo freezing and safely return to competition with a protected ranking," the WTA said in a statement. "Eligible players will receive a Special Entry Ranking (SER), which can be used to enter up to three tournaments, based on the 12-week average of their WTA Ranking from eight weeks prior to the start of their out-of-competition period." Sloane Stephens, the 2017 U.S. Open champion, has previously called for egg freezing to be recognised as a protected ranking activity and called Wednesday's announcement a "ground-breaking" move. "I'm incredibly proud of our sport in recognising the importance of fertility treatments for female athletes. For any woman, the conversation of family life versus a career is nuanced and complex," the former world number three said. "The WTA has now created a safe space for players to explore options and to make the best decisions for themselves." The WTA also said players will benefit from paid maternity leave and grants for fertility protection through the WTA Maternity Fund sponsored by the Saudi Public Investment Fund. An independent Regulatory Commission has also imposed an action plan on West Ham, the FA said. "It was alleged that the club failed to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters) did not behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent or insulting way with either an express or implied reference to sexual orientation," the FA said in a statement. The club admitted the charge of misconduct, in relation to abusive, offensive, discriminatory, homophobic chanting by supporters. "The club has a zero-tolerance policy towards discriminatory, abusive and insulting behaviour, and those identified will, in addition to any criminal charges they face, be issued with club bans," the East London club said. West Ham finished 14th with 43 points in the Premier League. ($1 = 0.7421 pounds) (Reporting by Pearl Josephine Nazare in Bengaluru;Editing by Christian Radnedge)

Soccer-French Cup final no distraction to PSG, says Luis Enrique

(Reuters) - Paris St Germain manager Luis Enrique on Friday rejected any suggestion that the French Cup final against Stade de Reims would be a distraction for his side, even with the Champions League final against Inter Milan just a week away. PSG, who have already won the Ligue 1 title and French Super Cup this season, face Reims on Saturday and then have the chance to end their long wait for a first Champions League crown when they take on Italian side Inter at the Allianz Arena in Germany on May 31. "All the professional players know that playing in a Cup final is very special. It's a special match and the details count," Luis Enrique told reporters. "It's not difficult to concentrate on tomorrow's game. None of the players will be distracted. "We want to make history from day one... We're here now and we need to put the icing on the cake." PSG, eyeing a 16th French Cup title, are heavy favourites against Reims, who are in the Ligue 1 relegation playoffs. "It doesn't matter what Reims' situation is at the moment... We know how to find spaces and points to exploit. A lot can happen in a match and you have to prepare well. We've got one more day of preparation," the Spaniard said. "Everyone will be giving 130% to win this trophy. You have to win a final, you can't let it slip through your fingers." While PSG have long wrapped up their league title, Inter face an all-important Serie A clash against Como later on Friday. Table-toppers Napoli and second-placed Inter go into the last day of the Serie A season still fighting for the title, with one point separating the two sides. "Sometimes it's better to play tight right to the end so you don't slack off. We had to stay focused. I don't know if that's positive or negative. I'm trying to see what's positive about our schedule," Luis Enrique said. (Reporting by Pearl Josephine Nazare in Bengaluru; Editing by Toby Davis)
