Kansas City Chiefs waive promising prospect WR Justyn Ross
According to a report from NFL Network's Tom Pelissero on Wednesday, the Kansas City Chiefs will immediately change their wide receiver depth chart. Justyn Ross was waived after four years on the team, filled with high hopes but diluted by injuries and other Pelissero shared on social media, Ross himself appears to have forced the decision."Justyn Ross asked for his release last week and the Chiefs granted it today, I'm told," posted Pelissero, "After four seasons in Kansas City, the onetime Clemson star gets a fresh start and should have interest." Last season, Ross was active for two regular-season games but was left without a catch on one target. He appeared in 10 games in 2023, with one start, collecting six catches for 53 yards. The former Clemson Tigers standout has been with the Chiefs since signing as an undrafted free agent in two-time Super Bowl champion showed flashes of potential in past training camps, preseason appearances, and limited time on the active roster. The 25-year-old was a familiar face on the practice squad, but won't have the opportunity to break through and move up on the wide receiver depth chart in Kansas City.

Gertrude Mensch was ‘a wonderful, moving force' and ‘a problem solver'
If there was something to be done, Gertrude Mensch didn't beat around the bush getting to it. That's why her daughter Ursula Pelissero said her mother got the nickname 'Hurricane Mensch' at Henderson General Hospital, now Juravinski Hospital. Mensch — who died March 5 at 98 — was chief of the physiotherapy department from 1960 until she retired in 2004. 'She marched everywhere,' said Pelissero. 'When she walked down the hall, she didn't meander. She marched. It was very quick, quick.' Still, she recalled her mother had some doubts when she was asked to become the department head. It was a trail-blazing move for a woman, working full-time outside the home. Pelissero said her mother talked it over with her father Gunter and took on the challenge. Gertrude and Gunter Mensch. During her career, she was a member of the Hamilton Regional Amputee Team, working with leg amputees, even being in the operating room to ensure the artificial limb would fit. She worked with the Assisted Devices and Rehabilitation program at Chedoke Hospital, became an author, spoke at international conferences and, in 1979, became Canada's representative — and the first woman — on the board of the International Society for Prosthetics and Orthotics. She received a lifetime award from the Canadian Physiotherapy Society in 1991 and an education award from the Ontario Physiotherapy Association in 1988. She was nominated for a Hamilton Women of the Year Award in 1987. In 1970, she was trying to help an 11-year-old boy who lost his leg in a train accident and was worried he wouldn't walk again. She introduced him to an eight-year-old boy, who lost his leg in a similar accident months earlier. The older boy was soon confident he could master his new leg. 'My mom was not a hugger, but she showed her caring in different ways,' said Pelissero, a retired dental hygienist. 'She listened. She tried to be a problem solver. She was quite the smart lady.' In the mid-1980s, Mensch cowrote a book on the rehabilitation of leg amputees called 'Physical Therapy Management of Lower Extremity Amputations.' Her co-author was Pat Ellis (now Pat Idenouye), assistant director of the physiotherapy department. In 1987, the book won an honourable mention in the American Medical Writers' annual medical book competition. After she retired, Gertrude Mensch took up painting and painted a picture of a cat with a prosthetic leg. Idenouye said Mensch hired her in 1970. 'She was a boss, then a mentor and she became a friend,' she said. She last saw Mensch last fall, but got a Christmas card with a 'wonderful' letter with it. 'I was just honoured to know her and work with her,' added Idenouye. 'She was good company and there was always something to talk about. She was a wonderful, moving force.' Erna Senta (Gertrude) Fritzsche was born June 27, 1926, in Leipzig. Her father was a lawyer who served in the Luftwaffe during the Second World War. After the war, as Leipzig fell into the Russian occupation zone, Mensch, her mother and two younger sisters escaped to the American zone. Her father came later and they lived in Lengerich, near the Dutch border. Mensch trained and became a physiotherapist in 1948 and worked with people who lost legs during the war. Gertrude Mensch, who served as chief of the physiotherapy department at Henderson Hospital for decades, in a family photo showing her relaxing in the backyard of her Hamilton Mountain home. The family came to Hamilton in 1955 for a better life and Pelissero said, because of her mother's experience, she was sent almost immediately to Henderson Hospital because it needed physiotherapists. She wrote her Ontario exam within a year despite not knowing English that well. After her husband died in 2011, she moved to a retirement home in Grimsby to be near family. She took up painting and convinced an artist to come to the facility to teach painting to other residents. She painted landscapes, but her daughter said one painting featured a cat with an amputated rear leg wearing a prosthetic. Mensch is survived by daughter Ursula, a grandson and two great-granddaughters. She is also survived by her sister Heidi and special friend Jack Sinke. She was predeceased by her husband Gunter, who died in 2011 at 85. Error! Sorry, there was an error processing your request. There was a problem with the recaptcha. Please try again. Insider shares new details on Steelers, Dolphins blockbuster trade
More details from the Steelers' blockbuster acquisitions of TE Jonnu Smith and Jalen Ramsey have now been revealed. On a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show, insider Tom Pelissero explained that the Dolphins were almost forced into a player-for-player type trade scenario — as any trade partner would be more willing to take Ramsey's expensive contract if Miami took a high-salary player in return. After trade negotiations with the Rams and Chargers fell through, Pelissero pointed to the perfect scenario that presented itself with Pittsburgh's Minkah Fitzpatrick — but it may have come down to the Pro Bowl tight end: "It just so happened that the Dolphins also had a situation with Jonnu Smith — who happens to be Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's favorite tight end — where he, too, became available," Pelissero said. "The Steelers had a guy in Minkah Fitzpatrick, who's due $15.5 million this season — his ball production in particular over the last couple of years has not been the same. Minkah is still only 28, but maybe not quite the same player he was the first time around in Miami. "[The Steelers] get a more versatile player, albeit one who's being paid more, in Jalen Ramsey. They think they can do a lot of different things with him, and a bonus out of that trade is they get a guy in Jonnu Smith, who's coming off a productive season in Miami." While some have criticized the Steelers for exchanging aging DBs, one has to wonder — after hearing Pelissero's insight — if Pittsburgh would have even entertained trading Fitzpatrick unless Smith came along as well. The Pittsburgh Steelers are just as informed about Aaron Rodgers' plans as the public is.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are just as informed about Aaron Rodgers' plans as the public is. originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Organized team activities (OTAs) are underway in the Steel City and the Pittsburgh Steelers are still waiting on a decision from the free agent most expect would be their next starting quarterback. Advertisement Four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers has made an effort to extend his contract decision as deep into the offseason as possible, with mandatory reporting just around the corner. The overwhelming expectation remains that Rodgers will sign with the Steelers, as Pittsburgh may be his best option left from a football standpoint. Most other teams have followed the usual timeline of already bringing in a new quarterback before OTAs so he can get acclimated to his staff, teammates and playbook. The Steelers, however, are still holding out hope. And Rodgers isn't making the process any easier. Because this potential signing is viewed as such a forgone conclusion to some, they suspect that Rodgers has at least had some communication with the Steelers to tell them his timeline or plans... Advertisement But NFL insider Tom Pelissero says otherwise. Speaking on The Rich Eisen Show, Pelissero reports that the Steelers organization has not received word from Rodgers whatsoever about his intentions this offseason. "I have been told that [Rodgers] has not affirmatively told the Steelers that he is coming," Pelissero said. "There's all these signs that he has not affirmatively said, 'Hey, June 9th, book me the ticket, I'm coming in, and I'm going to join this team.' That has not happened as of this point." The franchise and Rodgers have reportedly met multiple times in Pittsburgh earlier this offseason with the Steelers offering him a contract that is still unsigned. Advertisement The closest thing we've gotten to any definitive plans from Rodgers himself was in a Q&A session with a musician friend where he hinted about a team "that might play in Chicago this year on a road trip," ... as in the Steelers and their Week 12 game against the Bears? Wink wink. Other than that? Crickets. If this situation is as annoying to the organization as it is to many of its fans, Pittsburgh could be inclined to move in another direction if they're fed up with waiting. Art Rooney II and the Steelers front office have remained patient ... but that willpower to hold out optimism of him signing can only last so long if there are extended periods of no contact between both parties. Advertisement Ironically, Rodgers has previously said that he doesn't want to be a distraction. But in reality, that's exactly what this is. Brock Purdy Contract Update Reveals Timeline and Value Hint
The San Francisco 49ers and Brock Purdy are due to agree on a contract extension this offseason, as the quarterback enters the fourth and final year of his rookie deal. In 2025, Purdy will currently rake in a $5.34 million base salary which is a large jump up from his less than $1 million base the previous three seasons. The 49ers have benefitted from Purdy being the very last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, and thus one of the cheapest draft contracts money can buy. Advertisement Lucky for Purdy, he has proven his worth over three seasons in the league, already leading San Francisco to a Super Bowl. That rise will earn him a very respectable sum on his next contract. When that will come? It is just as uncertain as it has been all offseason. But there is plenty of time left in the offseason, and we don't discredit San Francisco for taking the time to get things done right. NFL insider Tom Pelissero provided an update on the situation by announcing his projected timeline for the agreement and where it could rank Purdy amongst the rest of the NFL. "Are they within the realm of, hey, if they agree to something right now, it could get done quickly? Yeah, but they're not there just yet," Pelissero said. "I would anticipate it's going to come to a head sometime before the start of training camp, potentially sooner than that. I do anticipate that it's going to be somewhere in the [$50-million-dollar range]." Advertisement Of course, the exact totals remain disclosed, but according to this prediction, a $50 million annual salary would put Purdy just outside the top 10 in QB earnings for this season. Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts has the 10th highest-paid deal at $51 million a year and Arizona Cardinals' Kyler Murray is 11th with a $46.1 million per season total. Dallas Cowboys signal-caller Dak Prescott remains atop the league with his record-setting $60 million per year contract signed just before last season. Purdy's situation may be relatively foreign compared to some other quarterbacks', as he is just now eclipsing a $5 million salary as a low draft pick. San Francisco still holds major leverage in these negotiations, and has the right to franchise tag him up to two times if they please. Pelissero asserts, however, that a tag shouldn't be necessary. Advertisement He continued: " ... (Purdy), I believe, is going to get paid. I do believe that this gets done. "In terms of the exact timing, we'll see, but I would think, for all parties involved, resolving this before training camp and not having that hanging over everybody's heads would probably be a benefit." The 49ers have not yet had any organized team practice, with their starting date set for May 27. There is quite a bit of time until the situation creates any real uneasiness, but a contract as inevitable as this one can - and should - come sooner rather than later.
