Canandaigua, Penn Yan punch tickets to state finals
Class B Canandaigua 17, CBA-Syracuse 11 The Grey Wolves scored six in the first and six in the second on their way to a dominating state semifinal win at SUNY Cortland Wednesday afternoon. Canandaigua improves to 19-2 and advances to the Class B final Saturday at Hobart where they will face Garden City from Long Island. The first faceoff is set for 5:30pm. Class C Penn Yan 17, Ogdensburg Free Academy 10 Penn Yan finished the game on a 10-1 run to flip a second half deficit into a comfortable state semifinal victory. Freshman faceoff specialist Greyson Hathway entered the game ten faceoff wins short of the New York state record for wins in a season and easily blew by that number. The Mustangs are now 20-2 after their sixth straight win. They will play for the Class C state title Saturday at Hobart against Chenango Forks from Binghamton's Section IV. Faceoff is scheduled for 12:30pm. Class A West Genesee 16, Penfield 6 Harrison Easton got the first goal of the game for Penfield, but West Genny reeled off the next ten and held the Patriots scoreless for 25 minutes to make the second half of this state semifinal academic. The Wildcats proved convincingly why they are one win away from a perfect season. Penfield still put together an impressive turnaround from an 0-5 start with a state final four appearance and a 13-8 record. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
