Mehbooba Mufti says

Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 13 (ANI): People's Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said that the 'dil ki doori (distance of hearts)' between Kashmir and the rest of India would end when the Centre accepts Kashmir's heroes as its own, just as Kashmiris have embraced national figures. Her comments came amid allegations that the Union Territory administration had denied regional political parties permission to visit the martyrs' graveyard in Srinagar. Mufti further claimed that residents had been 'locked' inside their homes to prevent them from paying respects to the martyrs. 'The day you accept our heroes as your own just as Kashmiris have embraced yours, from Mahatma Gandhi to Bhagat Sing, that day, as Prime Minister Modi once said, the 'dil ki doori' (distance of hearts) will truly end,' the PDP chief wrote on X. 'When you lay siege to the Martyrs' Graveyard, lock people in their homes to prevent them from visiting Mazar-e-Shuhada, it speaks volumes. July 13th commemorates our martyrs, those who rose against tyranny, much like countless others across the country. They will always be our heroes,' she added. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also alleged that homes had been 'locked' from the outside, central forces deployed like 'jailers,' and major bridges in Srinagar 'blocked' to prevent people from visiting the historically important graveyard. 'In a blatantly undemocratic move homes have been locked from the outside, police & central forces deployed as jailers & major bridges in Srinagar blocked. All to stop people from visiting a historically important grave yard containing the graves of people who laid down their lives to give Kashmiris a voice & to empower them. I will never understand what the Law & Order government is so afraid of,' Abdullah posted on X. In another post, Abdullah claimed the July 13 incident was similar to the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, arguing that the sacrifices of those who stood against British rule should not be forgotten. '13th July massacre is our Jallianwala Bagh. The people who laid down their lives did so against the British. Kashmir was being ruled under the British Paramountcy. What a shame that true heroes who fought against British rule in all its forms are today projected as villains only because they were Muslims. We may be denied the opportunity to visit their graves today but we will not forget their sacrifices,' he said. Abdullah's remarks were in response to a post by Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) chief spokesperson and Zadibal MLA Tanvir Sadiq, who also alleged that several party leaders had been confined to their homes to stop them from paying tribute. 'Since last night, I like many of my colleagues, including the party leadership at Gupkar, the Advisor to the Chief Minister, and a majority of sitting MLAs have been locked inside my home. This is not just unfortunate; it is a deliberate attempt to suppress remembrance and deny us the right to honour the martyrs of July 13. Such actions are not only unnecessary they are unjustified, deeply insensitive, and reveal a troubling disregard for history,' Sadiq posted on X. (ANI)

PDP questions Omar Abdullah over delay in power amnesty scheme extension

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has criticised Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah for failing to issue an official order extending the power amnesty scheme, despite publicly promising it earlier this year. PDP leader Waheed ur Rehman Parra (File) In March, during a speech in the legislative assembly, Omar Abdullah had announced that the power amnesty scheme would be extended by another year. However, more than four months have passed without any formal notification or directive from the government. Highlighting the issue, PDP legislative party leader Waheed ur Rehman Parra took to social media platform X, stating: 'It's been over four months since the @OmarAbdullah-led government announced the extension of the power amnesty scheme. Yet, not a single official order has been issued till date. This delay has created an administrative vacuum, leaving field officers unsure of how to proceed and consumers trapped in confusion and miscommunication. Public governance cannot function through announcements alone.' Parra urged the chief minister to personally intervene and ensure that a formal order is issued without further delay.

Court says MCC lacks statutory backing, dismisses violation case against PDP MLA Waheed Parra

A court in Kashmir has said Model Code of Conduct cannot be classified as an order under section 188 of the IPC (now 223 of BNS) and it clearly lacks statutory backing and many of its provisions are not legally enforceable. Additional Special Mobile Magistrate in Awantipora of southern Kashmir, Muneer Ahmad Bhat , in an order concerning People's Democratic Party legislator from Pulwama, Waheed ur Rehman Parra, dismissed the challan filed against the MLA under section 188 of IPC in 2024 at Awantipora police station. The court ordered his release and discharged the bail bonds and personal bonds of the accused. The case pertains to a rally Parra organized on 27/4/2024, allegedly in violation of the Code of Conduct and without obtaining the necessary permission. The police in Awantipora had filed an FIR- 66 under section 188 of the IPC against Parra in 2024. Parra was released on bail and chargesheet was presented in this court on 14/9/2024 in absence of the accused. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Villas For Sale in Dubai Might Surprise You Dubai villas | search ads Get Deals Undo "...by no means can the Model Code of Conduct be classified as an order under section 188 of the IPC. The MCC serves solely as guidance for political parties and candidates. It was established through the consensus of political parties in India with the aim of strengthening the foundations of the political system in our country. Clearly, it lack statutory backing, and many of its provisions are not legally enforceable," read the order. The order further stated it is the political parties themselves that have agreed to adhere to the principles outlined in this code, thus binding them to respect and follow it both in letter and spirit. Live Events "Even if the MCC is considered an order under section 188 of the IPC, the document MCC itself doesn't specify which public servant issued this order. This clarification is crucial, as cognizance of an offence under section 188 of the IPC can only be taken upon a complaint from the public servant whose order was violated, or from their superior," read the order. The court stated that undoubtedly, the MCC is issued by the Election Commission of India , a constitutional body, thus, ideally, any prosecution should be based on a complaint from the Election Commission itself. "The challan is dismissed and the accused is released. The bail bonds and personal bonds of the accused are discharged. The seized documents/articles, if any, shall be delivered to the rightful owner/claimant who is entitled to that on execution of his personal bond and they shall be held subject to orders, if any, of the appellate court," read the order. It further stated, "reverting to the facts of the case in the light of the principles of law laid down by the Supreme Court in the judgements mentioned in the order, it is quite vivid that the offence under section 188 of the IPC can be taken cognizance of only in accordance with section 195 (1) (a)(i) of the CrPc. Since the instant challan is without a written complaint, as such no cognizance is taken of offence under section 188 of the IPC." "Consequently, the requirements of section 195 of the CrPC are not met in this case, rendering the prosecution merely a formality," read the order. The court said that keeping in view, the principles of law laid down by the Supreme Court and the facts of this case, no cognizance is taken of the offence under section 188 of the IPC.

‘Salute People Of Iran…': Mehbooba Mufti Welcomes Israel-Iran Ceasefire

Israel-Iran Conflict: Welcoming the ceasefire between Israel and Iran, Mehbooba Mufti, president of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), stated that the ceasefire is a significant development, calling it good news for the entire world. Mufti said the war has propelled Iran to the leadership role of the Muslim world. Mufti praised the resilience of Iran's leadership, military, and people, asserting that their determination in the face of limited advanced weaponry forced the United States and Israel to negotiate. She added, 'I salute the people of Iran for the sentiment with which they fought this war and brought the US and Israel to their knees.' Mufti's remarks included sharp criticism of US President Donald Trump, whom she accused of hypocrisy and creating global chaos. She claimed that Trump's announcement of the ceasefire was undermined by his unpredictable behavior. She further accused the US of historically instigating conflicts, including between India and Pakistan, and she labeled Israel a 'villain country' for its actions in Palestine, reflecting her long-standing criticism of Israel's policies. She also mocked Pakistan's nomination of Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, calling it ironic given his role in escalating tensions. Mufti referenced India's historical support for Palestine, expressing disappointment in what she described as India's recent shift away from its moral stance and its growing alignment with Israel, which she linked to weakened ties with Iran. Mufti said that Iran conditioned the ceasefire, asked Israel to halt its attacks, and then the US had to engage Qatar as a mediator to facilitate the agreement, which shows the power of Iran. But she criticised the silence of other Muslim-majority countries, particularly the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), for failing to support Iran during the conflict. In contrast, she praised Russia and China for backing Iran, suggesting their support strengthened Iran's position. The ceasefire followed a period of intense hostilities, with Israel launching strikes on Iranian military and nuclear sites and Iran retaliating with missile attacks.

Security of Amarnath pilgrims is responsibility of Kashmiris: Mehbooba

People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday put the onus of security of Amarnath Yatra pilgrims on locals emphasising that it was the collective responsibility of Kashmiris in ensuring a peaceful and secure pilgrimage. The former J&K chief minister was in Pahalgam where she addressed a gathering of local business people, taxi drivers, hoteliers, pony walas and civil society members. 'People here have carried yatris on their shoulders. The people of Pahalgam are the one keeping alive Ganga-Yamuna composite culture,' she said and urged them to protect the yatris at any cost. 'This is your responsibility irrespective of how many military or security forces are here,' she said. 'This is your responsibility, and that of the pony wala , the shop keeper , the labourer, the hotelier or the youth,' she said. The annual Hindu pilgrimage to the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas is commencing from July 3 this year. Pahalgam is one of the two base camps of the yatra and authorities have charted out elaborate security measures for the safety of incoming pilgrims. Mufti sought an oath from the people present to protect the incoming pilgrims. 'Do you assure me and raise your hands and take oath that we will protect the Amarnath yatra pilgrims,' she said as people shouted in affirmative. 'More than army, forces or police, you have to protect them,' she said. Mufti also urged chief minister Omar Abdullah and the lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha to take swift action to reopen popular tourist destinations such as Chandanwari, Aru Valley, Betab Valley, and other parks in Pahalgam and questioned the delay in their opening. 'I want to ask CM Omar, no one stops you from giving jobs to retired people or transferring officers as you wish. If you can exercise your authority freely in these matters, why can't you ensure these parks are opened for the public?'. Later while talking to reporters, Mufti said that the situation changed in Kashmir after the attack in Baisaran. 'Tourism halted suddenly and due to that, 10,000 horse owners of Pahalgam, the local hoteliers, shopkeepers, taxi drivers, auto drivers and sumo drivers are in terrible condition,' she said. She said that she was in Pahalgam to talk to her party workers who live on the route to Amarnath shrine. 'I told them that the locals of Pahalgam have to protect the Amarnath Yatra. After that, people's trust will be reinstated and tourism will begin again,' she said.
