Kaizer Chiefs transfers: Tau, Zajmovic, R15 million insult
Today's Kaizer Chiefs news wrap has rumours on Percy Tau, Dzenan Zajmovic and a fee for Yusuf Maart's move to Austria. Skipper Maart is finalising a switch to the Austrian Bundesliga with newly-promoted SV Ried. Percy Tau's future remains a subject of feverish debate. Pitso Mosimane's son heads to Italy Central midfielder Yusuf Maart, a senior and well-respected member of the Kaizer Chiefs squad, is taking his opportunity to move to Europe just before his 30th birthday. The industrious midfield man is said to be making the switch to Austrian Bundesliga side SV Ried for a fee in the region of €725k (R15 million). That might sound like a decent figure for the club, but let's do a quick projection exercise. Let's assume SV Ried keeps Maart for a year and then opts to sell him to a much wealthier club. What sort of fee could they attract? At least triple what they paid Chiefs for his services? Do European clubs have any respect for football teams in South Africa? All Chiefs squad numbers, including Monyane, Mako, and Shinga Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart. Image: Muzi Ntombela/BackpagePix In an interview with Robert Marawa, Bafana winger Percy Tau sounds as though a return to South Africa could be on the cards if the price is right. 'I am Kaizer [Motaung], I at Naturena offer you R450,000 a month. Do you accept?' Robert Marawa asked Percy Tau. 'For how many years?' Tau asked. 'You sign two with an option,' Marawa added. 'Perfect,' Tau confirmed. 30-year-old Bosnian Dzenan Zajmovic bagged seven goals and two assists in the league last season, as well as three goals from two Nedbank Cup outings. The country's big clubs could be interested in signing the Belgium-born star on a free transfer this winter. Why Kaizer Chiefs pulled out of the race to sign Percy Tau
Chiefs not interested According to Bobby Motaung, Kaizer Chiefs have pulled out of the race to sign former Al Ahly star Percy Tau. Photo: Ahmed Awaad/NurPhoto via AFP Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung has revealed why the club did not follow up their pursuit of Percy Tau with a concrete offer. The Bafana Bafana star is a free agent after leaving Qatari side Qatar SC and has been heavily linked with a move to Chiefs, who are in desperate need of some experience in their young side. After some talks, Chiefs are now thought to have pulled out of the race to sign the 31-year-old on a free transfer. "Our industry is funny. When you want a player and when we start talking (and) you start talking about money first, he's not coming to our club. That's not your player," Motaung said when speaking on the Smash Sports YouTube channel.

'Percy Tau is running around in the streets of Mpumalanga' – ex-Pirates star
Former Mamelodi Sundowns and Al Ahly forward Percy Tau is still without a club. The 31-year-old became a free agent after leaving Qatar in May. He has since returned to South Africa and is open to playing in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) should any team propose a right offer for him. Former Pirates winger Mark Mayambela said Percy Tau could be a great addition to the Buccaneers. Speaking on Soccer Beat, the former trickster encourages the Soweto giants to sign Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile. '[If not Shalulile] Also, we spoke about Percy as well. He is also running around somewhere in the streets of Mpumalanga and I feel..[he can be a good fit for Pirates]. Speaking to Robert Marawa on Radio 94.7 , Tau revealed that he would accept a monthly salary of R450,000 from Chiefs. 'If that situation were to happen [to receive an offer from Chiefs], I would pay attention to it,' he admitted. 'But there are still other clubs in the PSL. I mean, I played for Sundowns, so I cannot write them off. It's a team that I played for, I won, and I've got so much love for the team and the fans. If Sundowns were not to offer me a contract and Chiefs do, then it won't be my fault but theirs that I've gone to join Chiefs,' he said. Percy Tau also said he was open to playing for Pirates or Stellenbosch. At 31, the winger is no longer at his peak, but his experience, work ethic and eye for goal will be an asset for any top PSL side. Percy Tau could be the ace in Nabi's Kaizer Chiefs rebuild
Bafana Bafana's Percy Tau is currently on the hunt for a new club after his contract with Qatar SC expired at the end of last season. Photo: BackpagePix. Kaizer Chiefs have fallen short of their proud standards over the past two seasons, and as they prepare to mount a stronger challenge in the 2025/26 campaign, the need for a fresh, unified push from the start is critical. Securing one of the most sought-after free agents on the market right now could be just the spark they need to begin that journey. Under the leadership of Tunisian head coach Nasreddine Nabi, who is entering his second season at the helm, the Glamour Boys will continue their rebuilding mission. Nabi has been entrusted with the task of restoring pride and silverware to one of South Africa's most iconic clubs. While Chiefs endured another difficult league season — once again falling short of a top-half finish for the second season in a row, the biggest concern was the lack of visible clear progress throughout the season. But with that said, the Tunisian did guide the team to a long-awaited triumph in the Nedbank Cup, beating rivals Orlando Pirates 2-1 in the final. That victory not only ended a near decade-long trophy drought but also served as a morale booster across the club.
