Kesha Earns A Career-First No. 1 With Her Comeback Album

Kesha debuts Period at No. 1 on Billboard's Vinyl Albums, Top Album Sales, and Top Dance Albums ... More charts, earning her first leader on the vinyl-only tally. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - FEBRUARY 06: Kesha performs onstage as YSL Beauty kicks off NYFW with YSL Beauty Candy Club at 53 Mercer on February 06, 2025 in New York City. (Photo byfor YSL Beauty) Kesha's new album Period — officially titled with just the punctuation symbol, but typically referred to by the word itself — returns the pop star to the highest reaches of several Billboard rankings this week as it arrives. The highly anticipated full-length opens at No. 1 across a variety of tallies, even sending the Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter to the top spot on one list for the first time in her career. Kesha Earns Her First No. 1 Kesha launches Period at No. 1 on the Vinyl Albums chart, claiming the bestselling record in America for the first time ever. Throughout her years as a superstar, Kesha has sent a trio of projects to the Vinyl Albums list, and all of them have cracked the top five, but until now, none had led the charge. Period Beats Gag Order and Rainbow Before Period, Kesha's highest-rising win on the Vinyl Albums chart was Gag Order, the full-length that arrived just two years earlier. That set debuted at No. 3 and then fell away, never to be seen again. Rainbow reached its No. 4 high point in November 2017 when it debuted, and so far, that project is the only one from Kesha to hold on for more than one stay, as it managed only two stints on the tally. Kesha Joins Taylor Swift, Kendrick Lamar and The Beatles Kesha leads the Vinyl Albums tally during a fairly quiet frame. Period is one of just two debuts on the list, as Clarity Of Cal by Vulfpeck opens at No. 3, while Short n' Sweet by Sabrina Carpenter rockets back to the runner-up space from outside the top 10. Since there aren't many arrivals, several favorites have a chance to return. This week's Vinyl Albums ranking features classics from the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Tame Impala, The Beatles, and SZA, all of whom manage to reappear. Two of Taylor Swift's projects, Reputation and her self-titled debut, also reenter the roster. Kesha's New Album Launches at No. 1 on Several Lists Period opens at No. 1 on three Billboard lists. In addition to the Vinyl Albums tally, the dance-pop project also conquers both the Top Album Sales and Top Dance Albums charts, where the pop singer has dominated in the past. Luminate reports that in its first full frame of availability, the latest from the party-hard musician arrives with 15,500 pure purchases. That's several thousand more than Beautiful Chaos by Katseye, which dips to No. 2 in its second week on the tally.

Data centres push electricity demand to new high

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's power infrastructure sector is entering an upcycle, driven by surging electricity demand and a strong pipeline of new supply projects, Hong Leong Investment Bank Bhd (HLIB) said. The country recorded a peak power demand of 21,049 megawatts (MW) on May 28, 2025, a 10.4 per cent increase from a year earlier. HLIB attributed the jump to organic growth and higher load requirements, particularly from data centres, where utilisation reached 485MW in March compared with 148MW a year ago. "In response to the sharp rise in demand, the Energy Commission has called for tenders for new and existing gas-fired power capacities, scheduled for rollout between 2025 and 2029 to ensure a healthy reserve margin," it said in a note. At the same time, HLIB said renewable energy (RE) deployment remains a key policy focus, with national targets set at 31 per cent RE capacity by 2025 and 40 per cent by 2035. "Amid this backdrop of rising demand and a strong pipeline of new power supply, we see a compelling multi-year investment opportunity in the domestic power infrastructure space," it said. Over the current Regulatory Period 4 (RP4), HLIB estimates Tenaga Nasional Bhd will channel RM3 billion to RM3.5 billion annually from its base capital expenditure into grid infrastructure. It said this is expected to generate RM6.7 billion to RM7.8 billion worth of job opportunities in the transmission substation segment, benefiting mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering players. "Looking ahead, Tenaga's RM90 billion grid investment plan implies another RM47 billion could be deployed under RP5 (2028-2030), exceeding RP4's RM42.8 billion and this points toward sustained momentum in power infrastructure rollout. "We reckon listed power infrastructure players who have access to capital and economies of scale are prime beneficiaries," it said. Overall, given the robust project pipeline and rising infrastructure requirements, HLIB believes the sector has not yet reached its cyclical peak. "As such, we are Overweight on the power infrastructure sector. Our top picks are MN Holdings Bhd and Southern Cable Group Bhd, both key beneficiaries of grid expansion. "We also favour SMRT Holdings Bhd for its strategic involvement in the digitalisation of Malaysia's distribution substation," it added.

Kesha's New Record Is a Mess, In a Good Way

It's easy to root for Kesha, which makes listening to (Period.) — her first album as an independent artist, hence its July 4 release date — such a blast. Bookended by pensive moments, (Period.) is a frisky pop record that delights in throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks — while also getting a kick out of any mess that might result from a less-than-successful toss. (Period.) picks up sort of where 2023's Gag Order — her final release on her former label, Kemosabe — left off: The music is shapeless, the wailing wordless. Eventually, the blur begins to clear. 'Freedom,' Kesha bellows, her voice opening wide on the vowels as the instrumentation narrows around her. Finally — after a pitchman-sounding voice trills, 'Narcissism! It makes you happy!' — a beat drops in, and 'Freedom' goes from amorphous to pointed, whirling through post-punk dance-floor raging and gospel-choir riffing while Kesha coolly yet saucily purrs carefree raps like 'Crazy girls are better in bed/Well, I can do one better instead.' Kesha Gets Wild and NSFW in Outrageous 'Boy Crazy' Video Kesha's taste for pop experimentation is in full flower on (Period.), her indie debut well-timed to the long-brewing mainstream break of the hedonistic, neon-hued, kitchen-sink genre known as hyperpop. 'Joyride,' the album's thumping first single, blends norteña accordion blasts, huge backing vocals, and mouth-stretching enunciation; on 'Yippie-Ki-Yay,' Kesha takes over the DJ booth at a honky-tonk, lending her mighty voice to lyrics about 'double-cupping straight gasoline' and adding foundation-rattling beats. Things mellow out a bit as (Period.) draws to a close. 'Glow' is serenely self-satisfied, Kesha's glitched-out voice darting through eight-bit synths. The album ends with 'Cathedral,' a clear-eyed look at survival that's also a reminder of Kesha's gravity-defying vocal prowess. 'Every second is a new beginning/I died in the hell so I could start living again,' she shouts amid droning strings and resolute piano, then declares: 'I'm the cathedral.' (Period.) shows that Kesha is ready to take in all who have believed in her. More info An Eryri waterfall has been identified as amongst the 'most famous' in Europe. Rhaeadr Fawr ('Big waterfall') in Gwynedd has high search rankings across social and online platforms, analysis showed. Also known as Aber Falls, the 120ft cascade and its surrounding area have been popular tourist destinations since the Romantic Period in the 18th and 19th centuries. As the waterfall gathers increasing attention on social media, the flow of people wanting to see it has turned into a stampede. An access road to the falls have now become so busy that the nearby village of Abergwyngregyn can become traffic gridlocked at peak times. Residents complain of being trapped in their homes, unable to leave a village that was home to the last native prince of Wales. In terms of popularity, the waterfall was ranked 10th in Europe, placing it alongside some of Iceland's iconic cascades. Another North Wales waterfall to feature prominently in the study was Horseshoe Falls on the River Dee in Llangollen, Denbighshire, which was placed 12th. To arrive at its findings, German travel provider SpaDreams analysed 219 European waterfalls. Search volumes were aggregated from Google, Bing, Instagram, Pinterest, YouTube and TikTok. The Hamburg-based company said waterfalls have long held a certain allure. 'Anyone who has ever stood in front of a waterfall knows its magic: the hypnotic roar of the water, the caress of the spray on the face, the feeling of being in touch with the pure energy of nature,' it said. With a total search volume of 202,330, Rhaeadr Fawr is not the biggest waterfall in Wales but it's regarded as one of the most impressive. Billed as a 'must-visit' attraction, with scenic walks, it's within easy reach of families from Liverpool and Manchester wanting a day out. Join the North Wales Live Whatsapp community now The waterfall has attracted celebrity endorsements too: last year model and TV personality Christine McGuiness described it as 'the most magical, beautiful thing I have ever seen' after visiting it on BBC's Pilgrimage: The Road Through North Wales. As it lies just a mile from the A55, the waterfall is easily accessible. A narrow road winds through Abergwyngregyn up to Aber National Nature Reserve where ticketed car parks are run by Eryri National Park and Natural Resources Wales (NRW) At busy times, villagers say queuing traffic can snake back all the way to the dual-carriageway. Cyngor Gwynedd is sympathetic to the issues and has met representatives to discuss solutions. But it said there are 'no easy fixes'. In the past, Horseshoe Falls (search volume 166,020) has also faced illegal and inconsiderate parking, though enforcement has helped ease the issues. (Image: Ian Cooper/North Wales Live) According to the SpaDreams study, Europe's highest profile waterfall is Rhine Falls in Switzerland (search volume 674,250). One of the Continent's biggest falls, spanning 150 metres, it sees up to 600,000 liters of water per second plunge over a 23-metre drop. In third spot was 165-metre Marmore Falls, Italy, the world's largest man-made waterfall having been created by the Romans. Otherwise, seven of the top nine were waterfalls in Iceland, crowned by the majestic Skógafoss (search volume 551,950). Cascading from more than 60 metres, it creates an imposing curtain of water that creates large, rainbow-forming mist clouds. Other Welsh waterfalls to feature in the European list were Swallow Falls near Betws-y-Coed, Conwy (search volume: 62,660, 36th place) and Henrhyd Falls in Bannau Brycheiniog (search volume: 62,660, 44th place). One of the tallest in Wales, Pistyll Rhaeadr in the Berwyn Mountains, was ranked 60th with a search voume of 33,120.
