However, the suspect then exited his vehicle. TAWAU: A man believed to have been driving recklessly and flashing an obscene gesture at other road users, recently, at the Jalan Kubota Batu 3 Jalan Apas junction here, was arrested last Saturday. Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin said the 32-year-old suspect was detained at around 2.50pm by a team from the District Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) in front of a lodging house in Tawau town. 'The incident was reported to have occurred last Wednesday when the victim, a female technician driving a Perodua Ativa along Jalan Apas, was startled by a Perodua Myvi that shot out from a junction recklessly,' he said on Sunday. Jasmin said the situation forced the victim to slam on her brakes and honk as a warning. However, the suspect then exited his vehicle. According to him, the suspect made an obscene gesture and even issued verbal challenges to fight, leaving the victim distressed and frightened which led her to lodge a report. 'Police investigations revealed that the suspect has six prior criminal records involving offences under the Dangerous Drugs Act, including under Section 39B and Section 15(1)(a), recorded in Papar, Kuala Lumpur, and Tawau,' he said. Jasmin added that the case is now being investigated under Section 279 of the Penal Code for driving recklessly and endangering other road users. He also advised the public to always obey traffic laws and keep their emotions in check when faced with tense situations on the road. 'Any aggressive act or threat toward other road users not only endangers safety but may also lead to legal action. 'We also urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour or dangerous situations to the police for immediate action,' he said. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Five injured as express bus veers into wrong lane, collides with three vehicles in Ranau

RANAU, July 12 — Five people were injured after an express bus crashed into three vehicles at Kilometer 15, Ranau/Tamparuli Road here last night. The incident happened around 10pm when the Scania express bus, carrying 22 passengers along with the driver and a conductor, was heading to Semporna from Kota Kinabalu. The bus was believed to have been speeding before cutting at a double lane and hitting a Perodua Ativa, a Proton Saga and a trailer truck. Ranau District Police Chief Superintendent Mursalin Mahmud said initial investigations found that the 65-year-old bus driver had overtaken a vehicle in a dangerous manner before colliding with the right side of a Perodua Ativa car driven by a 30-year-old man. 'The bus then hit the back of a Proton Saga car driven by a 51-year-old man, before the Proton Saga rammed into the rear of the trailer truck in front of it. 'The five injured victims consisted of the bus driver, three passengers of the express bus, namely a woman and two men, and the driver of the Proton Saga. All the injured victims are being treated at the Ranau Hospital,' he said today. The case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless driving causing an accident, said Mursalin. A team of personnel from the Ranau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were at the scene of the incident to help the trapped victims. Earlier on Friday night, several dash-cam recordings went viral showing an express bus entering the opposite lane and almost hitting another vehicle. Also going viral was another recording that showed the same express bus entering a wrong lane while passing through the Kundasang Cabbage Roundabout. Authorities are currently carrying out an investigation. — The Borneo Post

#NSTviral: Delivery rider triggers crash on MRR2, flees scene

KUALA LUMPUR: A delivery rider who abruptly cut across three lanes of traffic caused a crash involving two cars along the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) near Lotus Ampang, before riding off. The incident, which took place around 2.47pm on July 1, was captured on a dashcam and has since gone viral on social media. Ampang Jaya police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Azam Ismail said investigations showed that all vehicles were heading from Pandan Jaya towards Cheras when the crash occurred. "The motorcyclist was travelling in the middle lane but suddenly veered left across three lanes to enter a junction," said Mohd Azam. The sudden lane change forced the driver of a Honda Civic to hit the brake abruptly, but the car ended up crashing into a Perodua Ativa in front as it swerved left in an attempt to avoid the motorcyclist. "Fortunately, no one was injured. All vehicles sustained minor damage. "The motorcyclist did not stop at the scene," he said. The case is being investigated under Rule 6(1) of the Road Traffic Rules 1959 (LN 166/59). Mohd Azam urged motorists to avoid making reckless decisions on the road. "Do not make abrupt moves or act without thinking. Drive carefully, be considerate and obey all traffic laws. "Accidents can be avoided if we stay alert and follow the rules," he said.
