Clemson football 2026 target, 4-star DL Bryce Perry-Wright announces stunning commitment
Clemson target spurns Tigers for SEC school. The Clemson Tigers and coach Dabo Swinney had long been considered the favorite to land elite four-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright in the 2026 recruiting cycle. But on Saturday, Perry-Wright announced he was committing elsewhere. The 6-foot-2, 250-pound lineman is headed to College Station to play for Texas A&M after a late push by the Aggies this week. Perry-Wright announced his decision in a live stream on 247Sports' YouTube channel. The Texas Longhorns and Miami Hurricanes were the other finalists for Perry-Wright. It's a disappointing loss for Clemson on the recruiting trail after a hot stretch in June when the Tigers added five commitments: four-star defensive lineman Keshawn Stancil (Clayton, North Carolina), four-star EDGE Dre Quinn (Buford, Georgia), three-star defensive lineman JR Hardrick (South Pittsburg, Tennessee), and four-star offensive linemen Leo Delaney and Carter Scruggs. Perry-Wright is the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman in 247Sports' player ratings for the 2026 class and is ranked as the No. 32 overall recruit. Rivals ranks him the No. 5 lineman and the No. 33 overall recruit. Perry-Wright had received a crystal ball prediction to sign with Clemson in late March, but Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction on Wednesday that the Peach State native would flip to Texas A&M. Clemson football 2026 recruiting class commitments Clemson currently has 20 hard commitments in its 2026 recruiting class, which is ranked No. 8 nationally by both 247Sports and Rivals. Update on top Clemson target, 5-star EDGE recruit Bryce Perry-Wright commitment decision
A big decision from a prized five-star recruit in the 2026 recruiting class has the Clemson Tigers and other schools playing the waiting game. Five-star EDGE Bryce Perry-Wright is set to announce his commitment Saturday at 5 p.m. ET. A 6-foot-2, 250-pound defensive lineman out of Buford High School in Georgia, Perry-Wright has long been viewed as a favorite to sign with Clemson. But a late push from Texas A&M and second-year coach Mike Elko this week has added some last-minute drama and could throw a wrench into the Tigers' hopes. On Wednesday, On3/Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong logged a prediction that the Peach State star would sign with Texas A&M. On Friday, though, Rivals' Texas-based recruiting analyst Cody Carpentier gave a different projection. In his updated "FUTURECAST" outlook, Carpentier has Perry-Wright committing to Clemson. The Texas Longhorns and Clemson's ACC rival Miami Hurricanes are also in the mix for Perry-Wright, who ranks as the No. 32 overall recruit in 247Sports' 2026 recruiting class rankings. He is the nation's No. 2 defensive lineman in 247Sports' rankings, while On3 ranks him the No. 5 lineman and No. 33 overall recruit. Perry-Wright is the No. 5 overall player in the state of Georgia, per 247Sports, which gave him a crystal ball projection to commit to Clemson back on May 29 before Texas A&M began making its push. Perry-Wright's commitment ceremony will be streamed live on CBS Sports HQ and YouTube Saturday. 2026 5-star Edge announcement details revealed for Saturday, July 5
Texas A&M coach Mike Elko and his staff are on the precipice of landing 2026 five-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright, who is set to make his announcement on Saturday afternoon. On Wednesday, Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong placed his prediction that the Aggies will land the standout pass rusher, who will choose between Clemson, Miami, Texas, and A&M. On Thursday, Perry-Wright's announcement plans for Saturday afternoon were revealed. They will take place live on 247Sports' YouTube channel at 4 p.m. CT, providing every fanbase the opportunity to watch the elite prospect make what has been deemed a close decision, even though the Aggies are the late favorites. Again, Texas A&M being in the mix for nearly every elite defensive lineman and edge prospect in the 2026 cycle is not surprising, given the program's success this summer, which began and ended with the staff's ability to build a strong, lasting relationship-based culture and a clear development plan for every recruit. The same goes for Perry-Wright, who, despite being slightly undersized, is regarded as one of the top pass rushers who will likely be a defensive end at the next level. On the field, Perry-Wright broke out during his 2024 junior season, recording 57 tackles (13 for loss) and nine sacks, which helped lead his team to the playoff semifinals and earned him a spot in the Navy All-American Bowl. According to 247Sports, Bryce Perry-Wright is currently positioned as the 32nd-ranked prospect in the 2026 class, the 2nd-ranked defensive lineman, and the 5th-ranked prospect in Georgia. Texas A&M receives prediction to land elite 2026 4-star DL out of Georgia
Texas A&M lost a significant amount of starting experience on the defensive line after three players left for the NFL. With this season's projected starters being upperclassmen who may also enter the draft, building young depth is crucial for the program's future. That's already clear in the 2026 class, where the Aggies have secured four hard commits along the defensive line and have several other high-priority targets. The latest addition is top-50 prospect Tristian Givens, who brings elite talent that A&M hopes to pair with another standout from Georgia. The Aggies' strong track record of producing NFL-caliber defensive linemen makes them an attractive destination for recruits. One such recruit is Bryce Perry-Wright, a native of Buford, Georgia, who recently named Texas A&M among his top four schools, alongside Clemson, Miami, and Texas. He is set to announce his commitment live on July 5, with the stream available on YouTube. On Wednesday, Rivals recruiting insider Steve Wiltfong dropped one of his patented 'FONG BOMB' predictions, forecasting that Texas A&M will land Perry-Wright. Considering head coach Mike Elko's recent success with top targets, it wouldn't be surprising to see the Aggies land another high-profile commitment. Perry-Wright, a dual-sport athlete, has proven effective both inside and outside on the defensive line. His impressive junior season—57 tackles (13 for loss) and nine sacks—helped lead his team to the playoff semifinals and earned him a spot in the Navy All-American Bowl. According to Rivals, he is ranked as the No. 33 overall prospect in the 2026 class, the No. 5 edge rusher, and the No. 5 player in Georgia. 2026 5-star defensive lineman has announced his commitment date
Texas A&M's priority prospect list in the 2026 cycle is dwindling after landing several names over the past two weeks, including back-to-back commitments from four-star tackles Avery Morcho and Zaden Krempin late last week. Coach Mike Elko and his staff are focused on building from the trenches, and while the offensive line looks loaded for the future, the defensive line is two elite prospects away from being solidified. Next month, 2026 five-star DL Lamar Brown will announce his commitment, choosing between the Aggies and LSU, which is reportedly as "50-50" as a decision can get, while it was announced on Monday night that fellow five-star defensive lineman Bryce Perry-Wright, who took his official visit to College Station late last month, has announced his commitment date. Perry-Wright's rise has been something to watch over the past few months, as the undersized lineman possesses elite athleticism that should translate to the next level sooner rather than later, leading to nearly every Power Five program taking notice. According to 247Sports' Tom Loy, the Georgia native will choose between Clemson, Miami, Texas, and Texas A&M on Saturday, July 5, which will stream on 247Sports and CBS Sports at 5 pm ET. Texas A&M has as good of a chance at landing Perry-Wright after hosting him for his final official visit of the summer, though Miami and Clemson are also clearly in the mix, while the Texas Longhorns' success at securing elite defensive tackles could continue. According to 247Sports, Perry-Wright is currently positioned as the 32nd-ranked prospect in the cycle, the 2nd-ranked defensive lineman, and the 5th-ranked prospect in Georgia.
