(Photo by Dimas Ardian) REZHA HADYAN JAKARTA -- The renewable energy arm of Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company, is preparing the groundwork for the country's first nuclear energy project while actively expanding its solar capacity with an eye to selling electricity to Singapore, its chief executive told Nikkei Asia. John Anis, CEO of Pertamina New & Renewable Energy (NRE), said on Wednesday that the company has set up a task force to support its nuclear ambitions. This comes after state electricity utility Perusahaan Listrik Negara revealed last month its latest 10-year electricity procurement plan.

LONGi, a global provider of solar photovoltaic (PV) solutions, has announced the launch of a solar panel manufacturing project in Indonesia in partnership with Pertamina New & Renewable Energy ( Pertamina NRE), a subsidiary of Indonesia's state-owned energy firm Pertamina. The facility, to be located in Deltamas, West Java, will have an annual production capacity of 1.6 GW and will use LONGi's Hybrid Passivated Back Contact (HPBC) 2.0 technology. Manufacturing preparations are expected to begin by June 2025. The project aims to strengthen Indonesia's solar manufacturing capabilities and support national energy transition targets. Focus on local supply chain and regional demand The partnership seeks to enhance Indonesia's renewable energy supply chain by combining LONGi's technical expertise with Pertamina NRE's local market knowledge. It is also expected to contribute to the Domestic Component Level (TKDN) in line with the government's push for greater use of locally produced components in renewable energy projects. According to the RUPTL 2025–2034 plan, Indonesia is targeting 17.1 GW of new solar PV installations over the next decade. The LONGi–Pertamina NRE facility is positioned to support this demand and contribute to developing a local PV industry ecosystem.
