Rizzle Kicks star Jordan Stephens to make stage debut at London's Young Vic

The 33-year-old will star as Mr Sloane alongside Auf Wiedersehen, Pet's Christopher Fairbank as Dada, Abigail's Party and EastEnders star Tamzin Outhwaite as Kath, and Daniel Cerqueira as Ed in the queer comedy, which will run from September 15 to November 8. Stephens said: 'I love the Young Vic and feel incredibly grateful to have this opportunity. I'm terrified and excited. 'I couldn't have imagined my stage debut arriving in this way, with such an iconic, wicked play and under the certified guidance of Nadia Fall as well as stage veterans in Tamzin, Daniel and Chris. What an honour.' The play follows the story of Mr Sloane, who is rented a room by the lonely Kath. Her businessman brother Ed does not approve at first, however, he quickly becomes taken by the young man, as their convenient living arrangement descends into a dangerous game of desire and deceit. Director and Young Vic chief executive Nadia Fall said: 'Jordan Stephens is an artistic polymath, from writing and screen to music and his campaigning. I'm incredibly excited to be directing his stage debut. 'He has the ear of a new generation who will be discovering (Joe) Orton for the first time through Jordan's Sloane; the thought of that is simply thrilling. 'Together with the rest of the brilliant cast, I cannot wait to channel the downright audacity of this play.' As one half of Rizzle Kicks with Harley Alexander-Sule, Stephens has had five UK top 10 singles, including one number one in Heart Skips A Beat, which featured Essex-born singer Olly Murs, and two UK top 10 albums. The duo recently performed at this year's Glastonbury Festival, and released their first studio album for more than a decade, Competition Is For Losers, in February.

Loose Women's Denise Welch addresses soap return amid ITV bloodbath

Long-time Loose Women panellist Denise Welch says she's planning a big career move next year, following ITV's announcement that it was cutting the show back to 30 weeks a year Denise Welch was already a respected stage actress before making her TV debut in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet in the mid eighties. Forty years on, she's known as one of the most outspoken - and also popular - panellists on ITV's Loose Women, but in this exclusive chat, Denise says she's keen to return to her professional roots. ‌ Earlier this year, ITV announced it was merging production teams on three of its daytime shows, and cutting Loose Women and Lorraine back to 30 weeks a year. ‌ The effect, although the channel has yet to announce anything publicly, is expected to be job losses amongst the backstage crew, but the future of the panellists themselves is still an unknown. ‌ Although ITV bosses insisted there wouldn't be any 'radical changes' to the panel line-up, which includes telly favourites like Denise, Coleen Nolan and Ruth Langsford, it's understandably prompted a few thoughts about what's next. For Denise, who first appeared on the daytime show 2005, it's an opportunity to make a return to what she knows and loves best — acting. ‌ 'I'm on television because I'm gobby and opinionated, and I think people can forget what I really do, and what I'm really good at, so I'm going to make a concerted effort to go back to what I do and know," she told OK! magazine. That said, the 67-year-old former Coronation Street star, who recently celebrated 12 years of marriage to artist Lincoln Townley, insists there should always be a place on TV for Loose Women, regardless of the changes. ‌ "It's the only show in the country that not only celebrates older women, but reveres and listens to older women's opinions," she says. As well as her regular Loose Women appearances, Denise has also had a number of high-profile roles on some of the country's best loved soaps, including playing Rovers' landlady Natalie Barnes in Coronation Street in more than 480 episodes between 1997 and 2000. ‌ She's also known for her part as teacher Steph Haydock in the BBC's Waterloo Road, and more recently, Trish Minniver in Hollyoaks. Denise puts part of her success down not only to giving up alcohol 13 years ago - but the fact her heart lies in acting, especially in the theatre. 'I'm proud of some of the things I've done as an actress. It might sound big-headed, but it's the one thing I say I'm f*****g good at. 'And I'm going to concentrate on reminding everybody of that!'

Tarantula found wandering in house looking for ‘females or food' is new species

Five elusive species of 'tiny' tree-dwelling tarantulas, found only in very limited habitats in Brazil, are under threat due to their beauty. Their size and colorful 'eye-catching' patterns make them targets for the pet market, and two of the five species have been listed in the Red Book of Threatened Brazilian Fauna. Now, a sixth species has been identified after it was 'found wandering inside a house probably looking for females or food,' according to a study published July 8 in the peer-reviewed journal Zootaxa. The Typhochlaena genus is an ancient and unique lineage of arboreal, or tree-dwelling, tarantulas that branched off from others millions of years ago. As a result, it has retained certain ancestral features that other no longer have, including traits related to body shape and size. Typhochlaena chapadensis is just under half an inch long. It is dark brown with 'pinkish iridescent setae,' or hair-like structures, covering its body, according to the study. A juvenile was found near the home sitting on a tree under a patch of loose bark, researchers said. Its coloring was slightly different, with a blackish body and 'iridescent metallic greenish setae,' the study said. Researchers said the new species has a 'very distinct' geographic range and is found only south of the São Francisco River in the Chapada Diamantina region. The rugged landscape is 'dominated by karst land forms,' mountains, 'rocky peaks, steep slopes, narrow valleys and large flat areas at high altitudes,' according to the study. 'Sadly, all Typhochlaena species are being targeted by poachers and the presence in the trade market is becoming more frequent,' researchers said. 'The same can be expected towards the new species described here, that are already being sold on Pet Trade.' Researchers said they hope the species' presence within a federal conservation park can help keep it 'minimally protected.' The Chapada Diamantina region, where the new species was discovered, is in the central portion of the state of Bahia in eastern Brazil. The research team included Rogério Bertani, Vinicius S. Antunes and Jonas E. Gallão.
