Yet there are some who aren't sold on Patrick being the top dog in the NFL anymore, but one who isn't is CBS Sports' Pete Prisco, who, in his top 100 players, still has Mahomes at No. 1. "His numbers have not been as gaudy the past few seasons, but he is still the best in the league. With an improved offensive line, and better receivers, his numbers will go up this year," Prisco wrote. Advertisement If a draft were to be held today, out of all 32 teams (maybe not Buffalo, Baltimore, or Cincinnati), who would jump at the chance to draft Mahomes? We think all. Yes, his stats and play have fallen away over the past two seasons, but he still wins. He had five fourth-quarter comebacks and seven game-winning drives last season, the most of his career in a single year. So while some think Patrick is struggling, yes, there could be merit to that, but make no mistake, he's still the apex predator in the NFL until proven otherwise. That is a far cry from his form earlier in his career, and one could say the turnaround is nearly complete. But for some, they are waiting for Baker to revert to the gunslinging, mistake-prone quarterback he once was. Yes, the interceptions are still there, but there's no denying Mayfield has morphed into a more than competent quarterback since moving to Tampa. And now we have another feather in Mayfield's cap, one that not many have noticed. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco recently named his top 100 players in the NFL, with Mayfield coming in at No. 57. Out of the 11 quarterbacks Prisco named, Mayfield is listed as the eighth-best with Jalen Hurts (52), Justin Herbert (49), Jayden Daniels (33), Joe Burrow (7), Lamar Jackson (6), Josh Allen (4) and Patrick Mahomes (1) ahead of him. Now, this list is subjective, and some might have Jared Goff (77) or Jordan Love (92) ahead of him (not Dak Prescott, No. 90, due to his injury), but Mayfield seems to be getting the plaudits that his play has deserved. Of course, he will be one of the most-watched quarterbacks in 2025, with many anticipating what they believe will be the inevitable decline. Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, to some, was the surprising winner of the MVP award after his 2024 season. Advertisement Allen reeled in his interceptions (just six) and had his highest QBR of his career (77.3), and yes, his passing yards and touchdowns dropped, but Josh was a far more cerebral quarterback and that led to the offense scoring on average, 30.9 points a game, while winning 13 regular-season games. Yet, some think Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson deserved the award more than Allen, but for MVP voter and CBS Sports writer Pete Prisco, who was talking on One Bills Live, he says Allen earned the MVP award. "I think he earned the right to be MVP last year," Prisco said. "I mean, he didn't have a 2,000-yard back behind him, like Derrick Henry, and he doesn't have the defense stars, and I think they've pieced it together, and done a nice job there, but they've lacked playmakers on that defense. So, Josh is asked to do a lot more." Buffalo, as it enters the 2025 season, is seen as one of the genuine Super Bowl contenders, and Allen is a big reason why. Plus, with the free agency additions on either side of the ball, the Bills feel primed to finally break through that playoff ceiling. And who knows, there might be another MVP in Allen's future as a result. NFL top 100 player rankings include 11 NFC West players
The 49ers have five players in CBS Sports' top 100 players. A total of 11 in the NFC West make the cut. This part of the offseason brings lists and rankings of all sorts for the NFL. CBS Sports' Pete Prisco put together his yearly rankings of the 100 best players in the NFL for 2025. The Cardinals will face 39 of the players on the list in 2025. In the NFC West, 11 players are in the top 100. NFL top 100 players in NFC West McBride is the only player for the Cardinals who makes the list. While he is certainly worthy, RB James Conner and S Budda Baker are notable absences. It is interesting that QB Matthew Stafford isn't on the list. RB Kyren Williams has also been very good. Likewise, no DT Kobie Tuner, who has 17 sacks in two NFL season, is a notable snub. Of the Cardinals' opponents in 2025, the 49ers are tied with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the most players on the list. The Seahawks have two defensive cornerstones. They deserve to be here.
