Dayton Dragons' new owners mark team's 25th season with 1st pitch at Reds exhibition

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) – The Dayton Dragons' new ownership group celebrated the start of the new season by throwing out the first pitch at the Cincinnati Reds' exhibition game at Day Air Ballpark Tuesday night. Peter Freund, CEO of Diamond Baseball Holdings, did the honors. Dayton Dragons sold to Diamond Baseball Holdings 'Bob and his staff run a first-class operation, and it was an absolute privilege to be part of it,' said Freund. 'The Dayton community has welcomed us with open arms, and their passion for the Dragons is truly special to witness. 'It's a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in making this team such a beloved part of the city.' The Dayton Dragons Kids Club is back The game between the Reds and a team of organization prospects was the finale to the Major League team's preseason. Cincinnati's regular season begins Thursday, March 27, against the San Francisco Giants. A crowd of 8,515 was on hand at Day Air Ballpark to see a Reds team that contained a number of former Dragons players, including budding superstar Elly De La Cruz, one of three cover players for 'MLB: The Show 25.' The Dragons season begins Friday, April 4, at Wilmington. They make their 2025 Day Air Ballpark debut on Tuesday, April 8, against Fort Wayne.
