‘Tensions' in Australia calls out the need to ‘enforce' what it means to be Australian

Centre for Independent Studies' Peter Kurti says for Australians to find commonalities during times of 'tension', we need to 'reinforce what it means to be Australian', to migrants and citizens. 'What we need to do is have a citizenship test that emphasises for those who come to this country to become citizens, that they need a commitment to legal equality … they have to commit to our democratic way of life,' Mr Kurti told Sky News host Chris Kenny. 'We need to add a component of civic education to our school curricula so that young children are brought up to understand what it is to be an Australian living in a plural society. 'There are responsibilities that come with being an Australian citizen.'

Peter Kurti reflects on Pope Francis' life and legacy

Centre for Independent Studies Peter Kurti recently discussed the impact of Pope Francis' death and his lasting influence on both the global stage and the Catholic Church. The Pope died aged 88 at his residence in the Vatican's Casa Santa Marta on Easter Sunday, sparking a wave of tributes from world leaders and royals. "He's had a tremendous impact because his embrace of humility, of causes of justice, whether it's the environment or the plight of refugees," Mr Kurti told Sky News host Chris Kenny.
