Kaizer Chiefs must bid if they want Peter Shalulile – Sundowns star under contract until 2027
There appears to be some confusion surrounding the future of Namibian striker Peter Shalulile at Mamelodi Sundowns. Earlier this week, reports suggested that the 30-year-old forward would be leaving the club following the expiry of his contract at the end of June. However, it has since emerged that Shalulile remains contracted to the Brazilians until 2027, having signed a new deal in 2022. This means any club interested in his services would need to approach Sundowns with a formal offer. Back in February, Sudanese giants Al Hilal SC were reportedly monitoring his situation in Tshwane.

In recent season, Kaizer Chiefs have struggled for goals and are in desperate need of a goal machine that knows how to put the ball in the back of the net. A move to Chiefs will give the 31-year-old Shalulile a chance to continue his career at the highest level. His record in front of goal, and his impressive haul of trophies are a testament to his ability as a footballer. And because of his experience in winning everything under the South African sun, he would be perfect in guiding Chiefs' young players. Is Peter Shalulile a FREE AGENT? Will Chiefs or Pirates pounce?
Mamelodi Sundowns striker Peter Shalulile has not had much impact last season and was often used as a sub under Miguel Cardoso. The lanky striker only scored six goals in 24 matches last season, which was his worst return since joining Masandawana back in 2020. The Namibian also had an underwhelming season in the 2023/24 campaign, only netting nine times. Before that, Shalulile was scored 10+ goals in the past and was regarded as the best striker in the Premier Soccer League (PSL). Some reports have indicated that the Namibian striker is a free agent as of 1 July 2025. According to Sundowns, the player is still contracted to the Tshwane giants until 2027 at least. In 2022, the striker extended his deal by five years. 'We are delighted to announce our Namibian hitman Peter Shalulile has signed a 5-year contract extension with The Brazilians,' Sundowns wrote. Under Cardoso, Shalulile has not been at his best, prompting the coach to field Tashreeq Matthews alongside Iqraam Rayners and Lucas Ribeiro. During the FIFA Club World Cup, the striker was hardly utilised, which frustrated Downs fans. Reports suggest he may be on his way out, and perhaps the changes were made to his contract. If he is indeed a free agent, expect Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates to pounce. Even at 32. Peter Shalulile remains one of the league's deadliest strikers. The Betway Premiership champions have yet to confirm the development, as the 31-year-old has been a fixture in the Sundowns lineup since joining the club in 2020. Since then, the Namibian goal-poacher has bagged over 100 goals for the Pretoria outfit in 172 appearances. In his time with Sundowns, Shalulile has won seven trophies with the Brazilians, including four league titles.
