Closing 10k primary schools BJP's ploy to deprive poor kids of edu: Akhilesh
1 2 Lucknow: Describing the state government's decision to shut over 10,000 primary schools a conspiracy of the BJP to deprive poor children of education, Samajwadi Party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said it was an irony that the government that spends billions of rupees on its publicity cannot spare a fraction of the amount to keep 10000 the primary schools operational. The move will have a direct impact on the education of girls from poor families, Akhilesh said. There was an urgent need to encourage the parents in poor families to send their daughters to school. Now, sending minor girls to primary schools situated several kilometres away from their villages will only come as a discouragement for the parents who don't have enough to spend on arranging transport for their children, Akhilesh said. "Poor people in general and those from the PDA – comprising Pichhde (Backward castes) Dalits and Alpsankhyak (Minorities) - will be worst affected by the BJP government's decision to shut 10, 000 primary schools. But perhaps the government wants the children from poor families to stay uneducated, so that they don't seek employment or question the wrong policies of the BJP government," the former UP CM said. "BJP is out to deprive the poor of the basic needs like livelihood, education of children and employment. These aspects have never been on the BJP's agenda. Children from poor families study at these primary schools. By shutting down over 10,000 such schools, the government will make education more inaccessible for the children coming from the vicinity of these schools which are being closed," Akhilesh said. The former UP CM said it was a pity that the BJP spends billions of rupees on publicity of government schemes but cannot spare a small fraction of it on the education of these poor children. The SP chief accused the BJP of drafting policies which will push the state backwards by spoiling its future. "BJP does not want to answer questions that people are asking. They want to keep the population, particularly children, illiterate. Once the SP government is formed, the entire education system of the state will be overhauled to improve the standard of education in all aspects, Akhilesh said. Senior SP functionary Prof Sudhir Panwar said merger of primary schools was against the very spirit of right to education and universalisation of primary education. "The BJP government seems determined to ensure that the entire education sector is eventually passed on into private hands. The government is systematically destroying the education sector by appointing incompetent officials in the regulatory bodies of the education sector," Panwar said.

Etawah incident ploy to divide UP along caste lines: Akhilesh
Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the recent assault on a non-Brahmin katha vachak and his team in Etawah. He termed the incident part of a larger conspiracy to divide the state along caste lines. "The BJP is deploying its 'planted people' with strategic surnames from neighbouring states to carry out its infiltrative politics and disturb social harmony in the state. But the people of Uttar Pradesh are aware of the truth. Society here will not be divided by the actions of a few negative elements — it will emerge even stronger," he said. Questioning the BJP central leadership's 'lack of trust' in its UP unit, the former CM said: "Is there not even one BJP leader in UP whom those sitting in Delhi can trust? Is that why people from outside are being brought in to stage conspiracies and disrupt peace here?" Further aiming at the Yogi Adityanath govt, the former chief minister accused the BJP of opening the state's borders to "anarchic elements" who, he claimed, enter Uttar Pradesh, disturb peace, and leave unchallenged. Referring to the assault on the katha vachak and his team, including a visually impaired dholak player, Yadav said, "A handful of dominance-obsessed individuals didn't even spare the artist who 'sees the world through rhythm'. By snatching his dholak and levelling baseless accusations, such people have lost the sympathy of even their own community." He condemned the attackers as "inhuman and un-Indian", saying that those who truly revere India's cultural heritage are always compassionate and kind-hearted. Rallying support under the banner of PDA- his party's inclusive alliance for Pichhde (backward classes), Dalits and Alpsankhyak (minorities) - Yadav said the incident has united marginalised communities. Etawah tonsuring incident: FIR filed against 2 kathavachaks, protesters clash with police, attack vehicles
The controversy over tonsuring of the head of two kathavachaks (religious speakers) belonging to the Yadav community by upper-caste men in Uttar Pradesh's Etawah district snowballed into violence on Thursday when a large number of people protesting against the registration of an FIR against the duo allegedly pelted the police with stones and attacked their vehicles, officials said. The clash occurred when the protesters were trying to enter Dadarpur village in Mahewa block where the purported tonsuring incident took place on June 21, it is learnt. The FIR against the two was registered earlier in the day on the charges of 'fraud' for hiding their caste and identifying themselves as Brahmin. Later, the police arrested at least 19 people allegedly involved in the clash. Meanwhile, Tourism Minister Jaiveer Singh claimed that the incident was a fallout of provocative statements by Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav even as Yadav and his party leaders continued to allege that PDA (Pichhde, Dalit and Alpsankhyak) were being targeted in the state. The minister said, 'Police have been deployed in the area and the law and order has been ensured. Ninteen rioters have been identified and arrested. The government strongly believes that those who take law and order in their hands and spread anarchy would not be spared at any cost. They might be of any caste, sect or religion. Those who indulge in crime, their caste is crime only.' 'Only criminals have been arrested and it has nothing to do with any caste,' he added. 'The incident took place after Akhilesh Yadav ji constantly tried to give it a caste angle. He made baseless allegations against the Brahmin community and misled people. He and his party have always tried to create a divide based on caste while the BJP always tries to provide justice to all no matter which caste they belong to. Even police vehicles were attacked,' Singh said. Etawah SSP Brijesh Srivastava said, 'We came to know through social media in the morning that some organisations were gathering in the Bakewar police station area to protest against an incident that took place three days back. We deployed police force at Dadarpur village to prevent any untoward incident. Around 1:30pm, a large number of people gathered on the road, and many were dispersed. But nearly 70-80 people tried to enter Dadarpur village despite being warned by the police, leading to a law and order situation. Nineteen people have been arrested, while 13 vehicles have been seized.' A video had gone viral on social media a few days ago, wherein a group of upper-caste men were seen tonsuring the head of the two kathavachaks — Mukut Mani Yadav and Sant Singh Yadav. Taking cognisance of the video, the police had arrested four persons involved in tonsuring the head of the two.

Power hike will keep industry, investors away: Akhilesh
Lucknow: Samajwadi party national president Akhilesh Yadav on Monday said there were reports that the BJP government was all set to hike the power tariff in the state and the move will further deter new industry and investments away from Uttar Pradesh. "The BJP government has failed to set up a single new power production other than those installed during the Samajwadi Party government. They have failed to add a single unit of power to the production capacity of the state. Poor upkeep has left the infrastructure in shambles. Transformers are developing snags and people are rendered without power for days despite the rising summer temperatures," Akhilesh said, slamming the BJP government for deliberately ignoring the power sector to facilitate its privatisation. "Now, there are reports that the government is planning to increase power tariff in rural as well as urban areas. This will only discourage new industry and investment from coming to UP. No new industry or investment will come to a state where cost of power is not cheaper (than other states)," Akhilesh said, talking to the media at party headquarters in Lucknow on Monday. Responding to a media query over ban on fairs (Mela) in Bahraich, Ayodhya and Barabanki, Akhilesh said this was the result of BJP's divisive politics of hate. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Giao dịch CFD với công nghệ và tốc độ tốt hơn IC Markets Đăng ký Undo "These melas were being held for thousands of years," the SP chief said, adding that such events offer an opportunity to boost local economy in a small but effective way as locals gather to celebrate, spend on buying confectionery and enjoy joyrides. Akhilesh said such melas also help people to bond with each other and strengthen the cultural diversity that characterises our country. "People from different walks of life come together and meet each other at these events and perhaps that is what the BJP's divisive politics of hate does not approve of," Akhilesh said. How many from PDA recruited in police drive, asks ex-CM Lucknow: Accusing the BJP government of targeting the PDA community comprising Pichhde (backward classes), Dalits and Alpsankhyak (minorities) for joining forces with the Samajwadi Party, former UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav dared the BJP government in UP to come out with the PDA headcount in the latest police recruitment. He said the PDA was being neglected and snubbed by the BJP in all the government schemes. "Let the BJP declare the count of individuals from the PDA who have been recruited in the police department," he said. Akhilesh's statement comes a day after the state government gave away appointment letters to over 60,000 individuals who have cleared the police constable recruitment drive.

Dharmendra Yadav: ‘SP's alliance with Congress intact in UP … When was Imran Masood given the power to make calls on seat sharing?'
The tension between INDIA bloc allies Samajwadi Party (SP) and Congress in Uttar Pradesh was rekindled last month after Congress MP Imran Masood said the '80-17 formula' won't work in the 2027 Assembly elections. Masood was referring to the seat-sharing arrangement for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections that saw the Congress contest 17 of UP's 80 parliamentary seats, while the rest went to the SP. The parties reaped the benefits of the alliance, with the alliance outperforming the BJP-led NDA. But the road to the seat-sharing agreement was mired in tension, which came to the fore during the Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in October 2023. The SP's chief whip in the Lok Sabha, Dharmendra Yadav, who is also party chief Akhilesh Yadav's cousin, speaks to The Indian Express about the alliance with the Congress, the INDIA bloc's future, and the government's announcement of the caste census, among other issues. Excerpts: * Some leaders, including Congress leader P Chidambaram, have questioned whether the INDIA bloc is still together. What is your view on this? I think the alliance is doing a very good job as the Opposition in the country. The alliance is playing a positive and constructive role… The bloc has never done negative politics. * The government has decided to include caste data in the next Census. It has also announced the timeline for the Census. The government has caved to the pressure from the Samajwadi Party. In 2011, when the last Census was done, the party had demanded caste data to be included. The honourable Mulayam Singh Yadav was among us then, and he had also raised the demand for caste to be included in the Census. Other leaders, Sharad Yadav and Lalu Prasad, and the entire Opposition were demanding a caste census. The caste census has been announced because of the movement led by the Samajwadi Party … This is a win for our struggle. * How is the SP preparing for the 2027 UP Assembly elections? It is going very well. People trust the party and our leader Akhilesh Yadav. The issues of the PDA — Pichhde (backward classes), Dalits, and Alpsankhyak (minorities) — are being raised. The people of UP have realised the future of the state lies in Akhilesh Yadav's leadership. People are unhappy with the current BJP government. Unemployment and corruption are at their peak, the law-and-order situation is at its worst, and the youth and farmers are struggling. * In the 2022 Assembly elections, the SP formed an umbrella alliance with smaller parties. Those parties have left the SP. Will there be a similar umbrella alliance in 2027? I feel the whole PDA family is with us. All sections of society are looking at Akhilesh Yadav with hope. You are right, there was an alliance in 2022 with smaller parties. But after the elections, when we couldn't form the government, these parties deserted us, and that is in front of the people. For 2027, when public support is with us, it is not important which parties are with us and which aren't. * Your alliance with the Congress made a significant impact in the Lok Sabha polls. But, before the elections, and since then too, there has been some tension. You supported the AAP in Delhi. Are there problems between the two parties? The INDIA bloc's fundamental principle was that it would go with the strongest party in the states. In Delhi, naturally, the AAP was the main Opposition party. It was in power. Today, too, they are in the Opposition in Delhi, but they are stronger than the Congress. The decision to support the AAP was as per that principle of the INDIA bloc. But this will have no impact on UP politics. Our alliance in UP is with the Congress and I have 100% hope that it will continue. And there will be a majority government of the INDIA bloc under the leadership of Akhilesh Yadav in UP … If anyone is fighting for the people, it is the SP and Akhilesh Yadav. I have full faith that the Congress will help us form the government in the state. * Recently, Congress MP Imran Masood said the '80-17 formula' won't work in 2027. He said the SP won't decide the seats that the Congress will contest. I believe that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, and Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi can take such a decision. I don't know when the Congress gave Masood the power to make such calls. The top leadership of the Congress will decide based on the ground reality. * How many seats will the SP be willing to leave for the Congress? Akhilesh Yadav will decide that. We are Samajwadis, we follow our leader … Those falling into the BJP's trap can speculate on such things. We won't fall into these traps.
