Powerball player just misses $175M jackpot, but still wins big prize in Georgia
A Georgia lottery player was a number shy of the Powerball jackpot but still walked away a big winner.
The lucky player won $100,000 after matching four white ball numbers and the Powerball number in the July 2 drawing, narrowly missing the estimated $175 million grand prize, results show.
The winning ticket was sold at a Pick N Pay convenience store in Hephzibah, a Georgia Lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News.
The player would've won $50,000 but spent an extra dollar on the multiplier option, doubling their prize. Officials didn't say if the ticket has been claimed as of July 3.
The Powerball numbers on July 2 were 7-19-21-54-63 and red Powerball 21, according to the lottery game's website. The Power Play option was 2x.
There were no $1 million or $2 million winners, and no one hit the jackpot, results show.
It's the latest big lottery win for the Peach State, coming nearly a week after two Fantasy 5 players each won a jackpot worth more than $1 million, McClatchy News reported.
One ticket was purchased online, and the other was sold at a Raceway Station in Valdosta, lottery officials said.
The next Powerball drawing is July 5 with an estimated $190 million jackpot.
Hephzibah is about a 20-mile drive southwest from downtown Augusta.
What to know about Powerball
To score the jackpot in the Powerball, a player must match all five white balls and the red Powerball.
The odds of scoring the jackpot prize are 1 in 292,201,338.
Tickets can be bought on the day of the drawing, but sales times and price vary by state.
Drawings are broadcast Saturdays, Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:59 p.m. ET and can be streamed online.
Powerball is played in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
