Ralph Luke Sonnier

Ralph Luke Sonnier, 86, died at 4:39 p.m., June 23, 2025, at Harbor Hospice in Lake Charles. He was known as Pie, his nickname. Pie was a lifelong resident of Sulphur, born on Dec. 16, 1938, at Sulphur Mines. He was a 1957 graduate of Sulphur High School and attended McNeese State College before joining the Army. After serving in the US Army for three years in Germany, he worked in the IBEW apprentice program in Port Arthur, Texas. After becoming a journeyman lineman, he followed the electrical high line work for nine years. During this time, he married Josephine 'Joey' Carol Caruthers in Sulphur on July 27, 1968. In 1973, after the birth of their son, Paul, he started working at Century Steps, which later became Century Group, from where he retired with 29 years of service as fabrication supervisor. He enjoyed working in his woodworking shop building handcrafted cars, trucks, and toys, traveling, and entertaining friends on his screened porch. Pie was a member of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church. For many years he was a 'garden angel' every Tuesday and an adorer every Monday at Prompt Succor Church. He was a 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus Sulphur Council #3015 and was an active member of the Lake Charles Woodworkers Club. In 2007, Pie won first place in the miniature replica category of the national Build-A-Gift contest sponsored by Wood Magazine. He had handcrafted a miniature replica of a 1953 Duesenberg SSJ. One exciting moment of his life was when Jay Leno from the 'Tonight Show' called to thank him for the pictures of the Duesenberg. Pie was always giving a helping hand to his neighbors. Multiple pies sold at Tesco, Sainsbury's and Asda recalled over health concern

Find below the full list of 10 flavours affected by the urgent recall. Brits are being warned not to consume multiple flavours of pies from one brand. It's been warned that they are "not safe to consume" due to incorrect date labelling. Pieminister Kitchens has issued a major recall for 10 of its fresh pies that all weigh 270g due to containing an incorrect use-by date of June 24, 2026. The correct date should be June 24, 2025. Due to the packaging containing the wrong date, a food alert posted to the Food Standards Agency (FSA) has confirmed that the products are "not safe to eat beyond their intended use-by date of 24 June this year." The pies can be found in stock at multiple UK supermarkets including Tesco, Asda, Waitrose, Morrisons, Sainsbury's and Ocado. The full list of the affected 10 pie flavours are as follows: Pieminister Moo - British Beef Steak and Craft Ale Pie Pieminister Moo & Blue - British Beef Steak and Stilton Pie Pieminister Kate & Sidney - British Beef Steak, Kidney and Craft Ale Pie Pieminister Deer & Beer - Venison, Milk Stout, Mushroom and Thyme Pie Pieminister Free Ranger - Free Range British Chicken and Ham Pie with Leek Pieminister Fungi Chicken - Free Range British Chicken, Portobello and Chestnut Mushroom Pieminister Wild Shroom - Portobello and Chestnut Mushroom Pie with Asparagus and White Wine Pieminister Mooless Moo - Jackfruit 'Steak', Craft Ale and Black Pepper Pie Pieminister - Goat's Cheese and Sweet Potato Filo Pie with Red Onion and Spinach Pieminister - Spinach and Feta Filo Pie with Kale, Lemon and Dill The pie making firm has since advised shoppers in its recall notice that, while the above products are not safe to consume past their use-by date, they are "completely safe to eat" up until then (June 24, 2025.) However, customers who would prefer to return them will be offered a refund when they contact the Pieminister Kitchens Customer Service on hello@ or by phone on 0117 942 3300. The firm is said to have since issued point of sale noticed to all retailers that sell the savoury pies. These explain to customers why they are being recalled and what to do if they have bought them in the past. The firm said in its recall notice to customers: "Pieminister Kitchens apologise for any inconvenience this technical issue may cause our customers and assure them that we take this matter very seriously. "We are working closely with our technical teams and have implemented additional measures to prevent similar issues from occurring in the future." This isn't the only recall the FSA has had to issue recently, as we reported last week that Lidl shoppers were being warned not to consume a popular breakfast item that may contain "foreign bodies." The supermarket's Harvest Basket Hash Browns were being recalled after it was discovered they "may contain pieces of metal", with all 750g pack sizes with the batch code 5144L and the best before date of May 24, 2027 affected. Sold in specialised American candy shops, these sweets were found to contain two mineral oils not allowed on the UK market, with one of them being linked to an increase in cancer.

Collingwood star makes big call on AFL future

Collingwood premiership defender Brayden Maynard has resisted the lure of free agency to re-sign with the Magpies for another four years. North Melbourne had come hard for Magpies vice-captain Maynard, 28, but he has instead signed with Collingwood until the end of 2029. Maynard had long appeared likely to remain at the club where he has played 218 games since he was drafted at pick No.30 in 2014 and won a premiership in 2023. "I'm incredibly proud and excited to be wearing the black and white for another four years," Maynard said. "I love this club. From the players and staff to our incredible fans, everyone contributes to making Collingwood the club it is. "To the Magpie Army - it's a privilege to represent you each week. "No matter where we play, you show up in force with passion and loyalty, and I can't wait to keep running out in front of you for years to come. Up the Maggies!" "I love you very much."Bruzzy's message to you, the Magpie Army, after he re-signed to become a Pie for life 🖤🤍 — Collingwood FC (@CollingwoodFC) June 12, 2025 Collingwood had always been keen to retain the heart-and-soul defender, one of their most important players and an All-Australian in 2022. "Everyone at our club universally loves Brayden, but especially his teammates. He is a heart and soul player who leads from the front in every aspect," list boss Justin Leppitsch said. "It's great to have 'Bruz' recommit. He is the ultimate club-person, epitomising a team-first mentality on and off the field. "We are excited to see Brayden in the black and white for the next four years and beyond." Maynard has been sidelined with a rupture plantar fascia but is expected to be available after Collingwood's bye this week.

AFL LIVE: Ginnivan's night out for Hawks, but Elliott meets every challenge

Why are Collingwood so hard to beat? Because they have different ways in which they can win. In March and April, their improved work at clearance came to the fore. In the past month, they've absorbed losses at the contest, at times conceded plenty of territory, yet still got the job done. Tonight, their offence has come off their defence. Their willingness to close down Hawthorn's space has enabled them to win the ball back in dangerous areas to launch their forays forward. The sight of Collingwood players running unchecked through the centre square will be giving Sam Mitchell headaches. The Hawks have clearly had a crack but their inability to prevent the Pies' run has given their backs little hope. Steele Sidebottom is dominating his wing. Jamie Elliott, after just one possession in the first quarter, has four goals to half-time. Tom Barrass needs pressure on the ball up the field to beat Elliott, who, if allowed to lead at the ball, will be too quick for his bigger opponent. On the other wing, Jack Crisp has also been a threat. The Hawks have gifted three goals to the Pies through their own silliness. The latest was Changkuoth Jiath's brain fade in not giving the ball back to Elliott after a holding the ball free kick, resulting in a 50-metre penalty which took the Magpies forward to point-blank range. Their best player has been former Pie Jack Ginnivan, who has three goals and 17 disposals. They need more from Jai Newcombe, who has been limited to just 10 disposals by Ned Long, who has also had time on James Worpel. If the Hawks do not lift their pressure around the ball, this has the potential to get ugly in the second half.
