Race-by-race tips and preview for Randwick on Saturday
The wide barrier might be a blessing for 2. Piggyback, which has likely been a victim of barrier one in her two defeats since she charged down the middle to win first up. Could arguably have won both those races, but either way, she's run very well without having things fall in her favour. Can be the master of her own destiny now and should take beating. 3. Federer was only second up when finishing not far off his stablemate at Rosehill two weeks ago, and he has the right set-up to produce his best run for the preparation so far. He's 1.5kg worse off for finishing behind Piggyback, but does look a danger. 4. Misterkipchoge brought up his long-awaited second win by claiming that race at Rosehill with a positive ride. He just got there and has to carry 3kg more, but in the small field he will get his chance to repeat. 6. Natural Deduction was scratched from Wednesday to run here and he bounced back to his best third up with a solid win at Canterbury. Comes back 100m, but capable of taking up a position and is in the mix. How to play it: Piggyback to win. Race 6 – 2.05PM EREMEIN HANDICAP (1800 METRES) 10. Pippie Beach must be the starting point in a race that really could be anyone's under the right circumstances. She's run well in all three starts this time in, including a first-up win, but the way the race was run last time out didn't give her any chance and she was outsprinted when running third behind She's Unusual. Gets a 4kg weight drop, a nice soft gate and the edge off the track is what she likes. 4. Zaphod sat up handy and had his chance when a fading fourth behind Quantum Cat over this course three weeks ago. Can't see any excuses there, but finds a similar set-up where he should be handy, and now he's fourth up he should be peaking fitness wise. 3. Salt Lake City was expected to run well last time in the same race, and he was fair in finishing just over two lengths off the winner. Again, he was third up and off a big second-up run, so perhaps an excuse there, and he could produce something. 9. Morning Sun won at 1800m first up last prep in midweek benchmark 72 company and there wasn't anything wrong with his latest trial. Can race on the handy side and a cheeky fresh effort wouldn't surprise. How to play it: Pippie Beach to win. Race 7 – 2.40PM THE AGENCY REAL ESTATE HANDICAP (1000 METRES) 2. Yiska can be a bit hit and miss – his record tells you that – but he races well fresh and seems to race best when allowed to find his feet and swoop. That's what happened first up last time in when he beat – an admittedly very unlucky – Accredited at Canterbury. He can balance up from the wide gate, and while you're banking on some early pace bringing him into it, he's an each-way chance. 3. Lulumon is another swooper that won a very good form race when she claimed Storm The Ramparts and Hi Dubai to win over the 1000m three weeks ago. Up 2.5kg, but if they are charging home from the back, it'll bring her right into the race. 8. Cassiel is an up-and-comer that has put two wins at benchmark 64 level together this time in. Races handy and while up in class he is down 5kg and that gives him the chance to be competitive. 1. Katsu is a noted on-pacer, and he'll have to carry 64kg after the claim. He was solid first up for the new stable under 60kg at Sandown a month ago and has had a jump out since. Lost his way last prep, so the fresh run is encouraging, and he stays in the mix. How to play it: Yiska each way. Race 8 – 3.20PM ASAHI SUPER DRY HANDICAP (1600 METRES) 8. Puntin looks a progressive type, and he was able to get control and hold them off to score second up at Rosehill. Steps out to the mile now, which he'll relish. He's drawn to land right there in the lead or on the pace again, and he's the one horse in this race that's very likely not reached anywhere near his ceiling just yet. Bit of a moment of truth for him, but he looks hard to beat. 12. Fiddlers Green caught everyone's eye when storming home for fourth behind Puntin after winning first up at the midweeks. Drew the outside there and went back, but you'd imagine from a kinder gate he can be that little bit closer. Yet to win beyond 1400m, but looks set to run a big race. 16. Sly Boots is another that comes through that race, and in his case, it was an excellent return after more than a year off the scene as he was beaten less than a length running on nicely. Has to be fitter, and he is not to be left out of calculations. 4. Oh Diamond Lil returned to form with a handy second behind runaway winner It's A Knockout third up and draws to get a nice run around the speed. Is a winner at this track and over this distance in Midway company earlier this year. 7. Don't Forget Jack was runner-up to Puntin and has to be thereabouts, and 11. King Ratel is getting fitter after two good runs from a two-year absence. How to play it: Puntin to win. Race 9 – 4PM TAB HANDICAP (1400 METRES) 10. It's A Knockout was awesome in winning first up at the same track and over the same distance last month. She landed in a great spot from a wide gate and simply powered away. It's a rise in class now for her to benchmark 88, but she gets a 1.5kg weight drop and a barrier perfect for her style. She's already been placed in a group 3 in mares company, so it's not foreign waters she's stepping into, and if she's anything like the horse that turned up three weeks ago, she'll be difficult to stop. The same can be said for 16. Getafix after his demolition job in midweek company at Kensington carrying 61.5kg. He enjoyed being covered up and exploded away for almost a six-length margin on the line. This is a sharper step in class, but he did start $15 in a Hawkesbury Guineas prior. 11. Mickey's Medal found himself last and facing a big task in a race run strongly up front, which likely took the finish out of him. Still did a good job to run fourth. Up in weight as he loses the claim, but has to be included. 7. Razors made an acceptable return from a year off the scene when close up behind Accredited in benchmark 94 grade. He'll be fitter for that, down a notch in class and was stakes placed at this track and trip. Keep in mind. How to play it: It's A Knockout to win. Race 10 – 4.35PM PRECISE AIR HANDICAP (1400 METRES) 5. Changing Colours was particularly dominant coming to Sydney off a month between runs and overcoming trouble to score an easy win at Rosehill two weeks ago. While she is up in the weights, she's meeting a largely similar group and, if anything, she's drawn a lot better. It's up to her to repeat that performance, but nothing is saying she can't. 15. Fairway Star could not quite match her turn of foot late, but did a good job to run second having returned with a handy effort behind Sacred Rocks. One of the each-way chances again. 10. Slinky is not too far off a win looking at her two runs back from a spell over shorter trips. Ran on strongly from last behind Lady Extreme last time out and with a big turnaround at the barriers she could be dangerous. 3. Liberty State was awesome winning first up from back and wide on a heavy track before an even effort in the same race as Slinky, finishing just ahead of her. In the conversation again. How to play it: Changing Colours to win.

Nock eyes break then shot at back-to-back city titles from the bush
The son of trainer Jane Clement, Nock has let his riding do the talking from a young age growing up in Bendemeer, near Tamworth. His passion for rodeo took him to the international stage on the Professional Bull Riders circuit and delayed his move to race riding, but now Nock appears here to stay in the Sydney jockey ranks. 'It wasn't originally the goal,' he said of winning the apprentice title. 'It sort of happened when I was having pretty good success while I was with Peter. I went home really not thinking much of it. 'I had the momentum built up, I was in striking distance, so I thought I'd give it a go. It's always good to win something like that as an apprentice. 'I dare say towards the end of the season I'll take a week or two off, then build the momentum back up. I've got the connections to then hopefully get straight back into it.' Nock passed up opportunities to stay in Sydney after his loan stint, and he is keen to remain in Scone, a three-hour drive from Sydney, with trainer Brett Cavanough. 'I think at this point I'll stay in Scone, I kind of like the style of living there,' he said. 'It's definitely a lot of travelling, but when I have a couple of days of racing around the same area, I stay down here. Brett is pretty versatile with all of that sort of stuff.' Down to only a two-kilogram claim in town, Nock knows defending his title next season will be a challenge, but he is up for it. 'It would be a good thing,' he said. 'But it's going to be tougher. It's always hard to run down a three-kilo claimer.' Ben, Will and JD Hayes are using Nock's claim with Katsu ($4.60 Sportsbet), which will still have to cart a massive 64 kilograms in the seventh, a 1000m benchmark 78 handicap. A five-time winner for Grahame Begg, the five-year-old was second on debut for the Hayes brothers at Sandown over 1000m on June 14. It will be Nock's first ride for the famous Lindsay Park stable. Loading 'It's only ever won over 1000 and, like [trainer] Joe Pride says, the weight doesn't seem to really matter unless it's over 1400,' Nock said. 'So just as long as they go quick, which over a 1000 they generally do.' Maher provides perhaps Nock's best two chances on the program, in four-year-old mares Piggyback and It's A Knockout. Nock took Piggyback to a midweek win first-up, but they have since been third twice in Saturday 78 grade. It's A Knockout cruised to a four-length victory last start for Nock at Randwick. Piggyback was $4.20 in the fifth from gate 10, while It's A Knockout was $3.20 from three in the ninth. 'She just needs a little bit of tempo,' he said of Piggyback. 'She's been a bit unlucky in slowly run races and getting a little tight for runs.

The Saddest NYC Restaurant Closures in July
This is Eater's guide to all the New York City restaurants, bars, and cafes that closed in June 2025 (see: June , May , April , March , February , and January ). This list will be updated weekly and is a round-up of the dining and drinking places that have shuttered around the city. And yes, this list hasn't been updated in a while, so there's a big catch-up. If a restaurant or bar has closed in your neighborhood, let us know at ny@ . Bensonhurst: Another NYC pork store closed — this time, it's Bari Pork Store, which had its last day on Tuesday, July 1, as reported by Brooklyn Reporter . The sandwich-slinging deli had been open for the past 37 years, most of the time run by co-owners George Firrantello and Tony Turrigiano. They had to shutter the business because of 'high prices for inventory and low sales,' per the Brooklyn Eagle . 6319 18th Avenue at 64th Street Cobble Hill: French bakery Charlotte Patisserie closed down one of its two locations on Sunday, June 22. The Cobble Hill store opened in 2017, serving all sorts of baked goods and pastries. Its original bakery in Greenpoint, which opened in 2011, is still running. 201 Court Street, near Wyckoff Street East Harlem: Year-old micro-bakery Atla's Conchas shuttered its Manhattan shop for a Vermont relocation later this summer. Co-owners and couple Mauricio Lopez Martinez and Caroline Anders had focused on Oaxacan-styled and American baked goods like the namesake conchas, as well as babka and snacking cakes. 347 East 109th Street, near First Avenue Little Italy: 11-year-old Baz Bagel closed on Sunday, June 22. Owner Bari Musacchio tells Eater that it was time for her to move on from the business and that an uptown bagel operator will be taking over the space. 181 Grand Street, at Mulberry Street Lower East Side: Top Chef contestant Leah Cohen closed her original Southeast Asian restaurant, Pig & Khao, on Sunday, June 22. The team decided to close because the lease was up for renewal on the 13-year-old restaurant; they decided not to stay open because the building required 'significant investment to remain operational.' She also shuttered her other restaurant, Piggyback (see below); her remaining restaurant is Pig & Khao's more recent Upper West Side location. 68 Clinton Street, near Rivington Street Midtown South: Concurrently with the Lower East Side Pig & Khao, Cohen also closed her offshoot pan-Asian restaurant Piggyback on Sunday, June 22. The Instagram post explained the shutter due to 'the ongoing economic challenges facing so many in our industry.' 140 West 30th Street, near Seventh Avenue Red Hook: Cafe and vintage store Red Hook Coffee Shop had its last day on Monday, June 24. The Instagram post announced that its next-door neighbor, Red Hook Tavern, is going to be taking over the space. 327 Van Brunt Street, near Sullivan Street Soho: Prince Street Hospitality closed down its Greek restaurant Lola Taverna on Saturday, June 21. The company operates other restaurants like Italian spot Cucina Alba in Chelsea and pizzeria Lucali in Carroll Gardens. 210 Sixth Avenue, at Prince Street Upper West Side: Acclaimed French chef Daniel Boulud closed down three of his restaurants, Bar Boulud, Boulud Sud, and the neighborhood location of Épicerie Boulud, on Monday, June 23. The chef is holding onto the spaces, turning them into a new, unnamed brasserie set to open later around the winter holidays. Broadway and West 64th Street Williamsburg: Japanese restaurant Bozu closed on Saturday, June 21, as reported by Greenpointers. The co-owners announced the shutter on Instagram, sharing that they weren't able to come to a good lease renewal agreement and that they're looking for a new location. They'll still be offering delivery and catering through its Brooklyn Ball Factory space. 296 Grand Street, between Roebling and Havemeyer streets Chinatown: Longtime Chinese bakery Nice One closed on Sunday, June 15, as reported by Welcome to Chinatown. The 30-year-old bakery was known for its buns and egg custards. The team is still running its other bakery, Lucky King. 47 Bayard Street, between Elizabeth Street and the Bowery East Village: Sip + Co. closed its downtown cafe on Sunday, June 15, as reported by EV Grieve. Its Midtown location remains open. 433 E. Ninth Street, between Avenue A and First Avenue East Village: It looks like Taqueria Diana has closed, as reported by EV Grieve, shuttering sometime in mid-June. 129 Second Avenue, between East Seventh Street and St. Mark's Place Flatiron: Kent Hospitality and Top Chef winner Danny Garcia shuttered their restaurant Time and Tide on Tuesday, June 17, but the team plans on reopening something new in the short-lived spot's space. In the meantime, the address will house a pop-up for Southern Italian restaurant Massara since its original location is going through repairs due to a kitchen fire. 48 East 26th Street, at Park Avenue South Greenpoint: 14-year-old Upright Coffee closed on Thursday, June 19, as reported by Greenpointers. Owner Daniel Neumann explained on Instagram that it was 'time for me to focus on other ventures.' 860 Manhattan Avenue, between Greenpoint Avenue and Calyer Street Greenpoint: Mini-chain Vegan Quick Bites closed on Sunday, June 15, as reported by Greenpointers. Co-owners Blenlly Mena and Javier Saba opened the restaurant, originally as Next Stop Vegan, in Brooklyn Heights in 2021. 685 Manhattan Avenue, near Norman Avenue Harlem: Acclaimed African fast-casual restaurant Teranga closed on Sunday, June 15. Chef Pierre Thiam had opened the restaurant inside the Africa Center in 2019, focusing on ancient African grains. Its Midtown food hall restaurant inside the Hugh remains open. 1280 Fifth Avenue, at East 109th Street Upper East Side: clubby Italian restaurant Il Mulino Uptown closed on Thursday, June 19, to prep for a nearby relocation, named Il Mulino NY Madison, at 58 East 56th Street in July. 37 East 60th Street, between Madison and Park avenues Washington Heights: The food hall shutters keep coming: This time, it's North End Food Hall, which had been the neighborhood's first food hall when it opened back in 2021. Its last day was on Sunday, June 15. 4300 Broadway, at West 103rd Street Williamsburg: New York Jewish diner and deli Gertie's closed on Sunday, June 15. Co-owners founder and restaurateur Nate Adler and Rachel Jackson are looking for a new location for the restaurant, which opened in 2019, ideally near their other Brooklyn restaurant, Jewish American bistro Gertrude's, in Prospect Heights, 357 Grand Street, at Marcy Avenue Williamsburg: Japanese market Midoriya closed on Friday, June 20, per Reddit and Google. 11 East 17th Street, between Broadway and Fifth Avenue Williamsburg: Eight-year-old vegan comfort food restaurant Modern Love closed on Sunday, June 15. Owner Isa Chandra Moskowitz, one of New York's biggest vegan chefs, decided to close the restaurant because the business model wasn't working, and she had to revamp everything. She'd like to reopen the restaurant in a new location. 317 Union Avenue, near South First Street Park Slope: Brooklyn's sports pub That Bar closed on Friday, May 30. 47 5th Avenue, at Bergen Street Park Slope: Burger chain Bareburger closed down its longtime Park Slope restaurant in early June, per the Here's Park Slope Instagram account. Its remaining Brooklyn location is in Cobble Hill. 170 7th Avenue, at 1st Street Park Slope: 15-year-old grilled chicken restaurant Purbird closed down its last remaining location on Sunday, June 1. The team is holding onto the space to open something new. 82 6th Avenue, at St Marks Avenue Soho: French restaurant Bistro Les Amis closed on Saturday, May 31, after 30 years of service. NYC group Kent Hospitality is taking over the space to open a neighborhood restaurant with drinks. 180 Spring Street, at Thompson Street See More: NYC Restaurant Closings NYC Restaurant News
