Expert panel to inspect faults in Rs 23 crore velodrome in Rudrapur

RUDRAPUR: Touted as Uttarakhand's first and the country's eighth velodrome meant for national-level cycling, the 330-metre track inside the Manoj Sarkar Sports Stadium has developed widening cracks despite multiple repair attempts. After TOI highlighted serious structural faults, cracks in Rudrapur's newly built Rs 23-crore velodrome have sparked fresh concerns among officials and sports authorities. The construction began two years ago when Rudrapur was chosen to host track cycling events for the 38th National Games. To meet deadlines, the Uttarakhand Jal Nigam's construction wing accelerated work, completing the velodrome in October last year. Cracks soon appeared around the entry gate and several track sections. Though repairs were done in December, they failed. When coaching resumed after months of inactivity, the cracks had deepened further. A major point of dispute is the number of expansion joints. Velodrome expert Pinaki Roy said changes in RCC structures are common in the first year and confirmed that experts from other states will inspect the site. Jal Nigam engineer Shailendra Bhandari said repairs are underway and external experts will help identify the root cause.

Rally to curb child labour held in Dhanbad

Dhanbad : Marking the World Day Against Child Labour, a rally and awareness campaign was organised on Thursday in the colliery areas of Dhanbad to highlight the need to eradicate child labour and protect the rights of children. The event, held in Jharia and extending to various parts of the town, witnessed the participation of social workers, teachers, coal workers, and even former child labourers. The rally, initiated from Jharia, passed through several coal-rich zones, drawing attention to the widespread practice of child labour in the region. Participants raised slogans and held placards demanding strict action and public cooperation to end child labour. The march aimed to sensitise local communities and families about the value of education and the dangers of involving children in hazardous work. Pinaki Roy, one of the organisers, highlighted the grim reality in the coal belt. "It is extremely difficult to curb child labour in this area, as parents themselves often push children into it. Some even take them into open coal mines for cutting and collecting coal," he said, calling the situation ironic and tragic. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Trade Bitcoin & Ethereum – No Wallet Needed!
